Best robot I have ever owned
I purchased mine over 4 months ago now. I waited to make a review to be sure. I had a Deebot prior to this for almost a month before ultimately sending it back due to leaks. I was happy with it but it broke down quickly. That allowed me to take a chance on the promo discount on the Narwal Z Freo.I am not happy with this robot, I am thrilled with it. Robbie amazes me every day with his ability to clean, avoid obstacles, and never get lost.I have learned to not criticize its cleaning ability until after it says done. After first getting it I would once in a while see it leave a spot and manually clean it. Only to find it later re-mopping the same area and telling me so in the app. I'm not sure how it does it but it's way smarter than any iRobot I've ever owned. The edge mode works nearly perfect, the vacuum and roller is truly tangle free. The cleaning fluid lasted me 4 months before I needed to replace it. I have also added the stain remover pack and seems to help.No issues with leaks from robot or base station. Never gets stuck or tangled in cables/cords. Always docks, sometimes retries but always gets in. Clean/dirty tanks are a breeze to exchange due to not having to mix cleaner. Mop pads and dirt bag lasted 3 months with heavy use. Battery lasts for entire lower floor. It's the smartest and best cleaning robot I have owned and I've been buying these things since 2001.Now for the not so thrilled part of the review. Mapping is great but it sometimes recognizes walls as simple obstacles and this prevents you from dividing up rooms. Zones work to override this. It's also tall and can't get under a lot of our furniture. Solution is expensive if not on sale and proprietary. Cleaning upper floor is a pain because you have to walk the robot down to the base station multiple times if you are mopping.Advice: clean your base station where it cleans the mop pads. I let it go to long the first time and it was disgusting.

DO NOT BUY!!!! PIECE OF GARBAGE AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS AWFUL!
Avoid Narwal at All Costs – Terrible Product, Even Worse Customer ServiceI put this machine to work. I have a 3,000 sq ft main floor with mixed flooring, and I ran my Narwal for almost six months. At first, it seemed fine, but that didn’t last long. Here’s where it all went south:• For the price, this thing is garbage. The cost doesn’t come close to matching how it performs.• The mapping is awful. It never cleaned “edge to edge” like it claims. Even after several remaps, it constantly missed large areas.• Maintenance is expensive and constant. Each mop cartridge costs $35–$40, and you’re forced to buy Narwal’s own brand. The vacuum bags are also pricey. Knockoff versions barely work and can cause dust to blow all over the inside of the unit.• It doesn’t even empty itself properly. Every other cleaning, I had to take it apart and empty the onboard dust cup manually.• The dirty water tank stinks, always. I cleaned it every single morning, and no matter what I did, it still smelled foul. The design makes it impossible to clean completely.• The base tray grows mold. The area where the robot “cleans” its mop pads turns into a science experiment in a day or two if you don’t scrub it constantly. Then came the disaster.Around month four, I noticed water pooling around the base. When I moved it, I found that the base had been leaking underneath and my wood floors were buckled, and the baseboard was pulling away from the wall. After doing some research on Reddit, I found that this is a known issue: the pump that drains water into the dirty tank can fail, flooding under the base. Because we ran it nightly, the leak had been happening for days, hidden under the giant base.I contacted Narwal support, the only way to reach them is through a ticket system. While waiting for a response, I filed a claim with my homeowner’s insurance, who sent a mitigation crew. Unfortunately, our flooring was discontinued, which meant we had to replace almost all of it on the bottom floor, a $22,000 repair.Narwal’s response? They emailed me in the middle of the night (their customer service is overseas) apologizing and asking for photos and videos of the damage, which I sent along with the repair estimate. Their solution was insulting: they offered me a free accessory kit and a $30 check.I asked for a full refund or a replacement device, and they refused. This dragged on for more than three weeks, with days between each reply, while my house was being torn apart. Finally, I reached out to Amazon, explained the situation, and they stepped up like a company should. They had UPS pick up the unit, and once it was returned, they issued me a full refund. Amazon is the real hero here.Narwal, on the other hand, has permanently lost my trust. Every time I see one of their ads, I warn people to stay away.We replaced the Narwal with a Shark, and it’s night and day. The cleaner costs $13 for a huge bottle, no dust bags needed, and it actually cleans edge to edge, something the Narwal never managed once.Save yourself the money, the stress, and the damage to your home. Do not buy anything from Narwal.

This turned out to be the worst tech buy till date. The unit malfunctioned 3 times in the last 2 years of its possession.First failure: occurred in the base station within a year, for the dreaded 2007 pump error, where the base station failing to supply clean water despite the tank being full. After a series of troubleshooting steps, I was asked to send the unit in for repair. No replacement unit was sent in return as an interim which left me without a vacuum for 30 days. I brushed off this issue as my sheer bad luck to have got a bad unit.Second failure: occurred within 5 months of receiving the replacement unit for the exact same issue. This time since it was out of warranty, I was asked to pay for shipping and the labor cost. At that moment Narwal felt like a crappy product as how can I be that unfortunate to have received a brand new replacement unit that goes bad so soon. I was 100% convinced as a few of my friends who had purchased the same brand experienced the same issues (luckily they got their from Costco so they returned and got their money back). Well needless to say, I wrote a bad review on Amazon, only to be contacted by Narwal support asking me to delete the review, in exchange of refund the fixing cost, and a few extra accessories. Lesson learnt, I should not have done that, as the fixed unit I received thereafter developed another snag last week…Third failure: this occurred last week and within 4 months of receiving the fixed unit. This time it’s the 2006 base station overflow error. To add to that the vaccum’s headlight doesn’t turn on in the dark anymore resulting in the vacuum doing random cleaning and bumping into furniture. This time around I am getting ghosted by Narwal support with no response after multiple follow-ups.PS: Between the 2nd and third failures I made a foolhardy decision to get the Narwal Flow. Thankfully had enough sense to get it from Costco. Lo and behold that unit also developed snag around navigation within a week. I promptly returned and got my money back.Moral: Avoid this company like the plague. It most unfortunate that iRobot went down as the J9+ combo never died on me.
