Grandson loved it, he’s into robotics!!

I got one of these for christmas like 13 years ago and I remember my disapointment that it did not work, but hey I was a kid, I remember breaking some of the pieces so its not its fault. Im 24 now, I am better and building things, even done some aurdino robots so I thouht "well I have the skills and know how, I can easily build it now and I want a solar powered toy" Cutting the pieces out was not the easiest but ok with wire cutting pliers, and the instructions were easy to follow. The only two problems I found is that especially in the gears, if the area were it was attached to the parts panel is not cut close to the actual gear piece, or is not sanded down afterwards, it WILL get stuck and jam the entire mechanism. I had to go back and would test each gear because gears 1 and 2 worked fine but then 3 would not, then 3 would be cut a bit more but then 4 and 5 would not. Each gear must have its teeth perfectly clear for the rest to work, its not a strong motor so even the most minimal bumpt will stop the mechanism. My next problem was the gears are too looseand hard to adjust to a specific spot and keep them there. I recorded a video showing how a slight tilt in one or another direction made the difference between working or not. Once you clear the parts and align them correctly it works great, I even attatched a string so that it doesnt drive away. This is not lego, the pieces are not as refined but it is a fun building experience, that teaches kids the basics of gears and electricity as well as Solar energy. If you got the right tools and time it is well worth it.

My grandson loved it

Purchased for a 9 year old grandson for a christmas present. He was excited until we found out that the super, tiny, itsy-bitsy motor didn't work - oh the tears and was just crushed that he and I spent so much time building this together, had a wonderful grandpa - grandson time together and the motor didn't work. We even tested as instructions said, before building and all the time I was trying to work out possible ways to get it to work. Put a volt meter on it and figured that the solar panel worked, but when connected to the motor, dead. Could not get a refund (not even 30 days out - that tells me a lot, so I purchased another just for the motor - it at least worked. I would advise even though it is about learning to build and make something, if you want it to work and your kid not be crushed, maybe buy a more expensive one where all parts will work as advertised. This was a double purchase for me to not look like a cheapskate to my grandson, giving him a gift that didn't work and I could not get a refund on my purchase. I was disappointed that Amazon would not allow it either.

Very bright direct sun is required to have the motor work. I would test the solar panel and motor 1st thing not after you assembled the base as the instructions show. There is not an on/off switch so you will need to disconnect the wire each time. This will cause damage over time. Prepping the kit, removing parts and sorting, part labeling took some time. I did like the sorting bags and labels they provided. Material quality is ok for what I paid for the kit, do not expect durability and if I had paid full price I would have sent it back. Taking apart what you made to do another design does not appear easy and no tool is provided to help. I expect parts to be damaged in this process. Overall, for what I paid for it. It is a good starter kit to see if your child is even interested in doing something like this before spending money on a much better kit.

This has transformed my life! If I had not purchased this excellent - high quality, quickly delivered product, I would be missing out on life and joy! Oh, and it works as described. Delivery person could have been cuter, please do something about this.
