Bean Products Kapok Pillow is great!
I love my Bean Products kapok organic pillow. It came packaged well and arrived on time. I needed to remove some kapok to size it for me and examined the stuffing to be sure it is mold free. One review speaking about mold did not say what brand they ordered, but this brand had clean and dry kapok that's fluffy. I sleep so well on this. My PT told me my old pillow was too thin and I wanted something without foam that would be non-toxic, non-allergenic, and natural. I've had this for several months now. I do plump my pillow each night at bed time and then, when I roll over, I might sometimes give it another quick one. I am sensitive to smells, and never detected anything from this, which I had worried about given some reviews that didn't name the specific product. I highly recommend this pillow for it's comfort and ability to be plumped up over and over and over, just like new. Be sure that you get Bean Products and be careful about reviews that don't name the manufacturer.

excellent quality
Kapok is unusually resilient. It does not pack down or lump up like most other materials. You only need to fluff it up and it will be like new again. I first experienced kapok as a material used inside zafu (Zen) meditation cushions. It really is the best material for this use, in my opinion. For use as a pillow, some may not like it. It feels different than cotton or feathers or foam pillows. After a few days of use I became accustomed to it, and now would no use anything else. This pillow came stuffed with lots of kapok, and would be almost firm enough to use for meditation. It would have been great for a pillow to prop myself up for reading in bed; but it was too firm to place under my head. I removed about 1/4 of the kapok, and the loft and softness is now perfect. The quality of the workmanship is outstanding.Kapok is a plant-based fiber, obtained from trees in Asia. When new it has a slight vegetal or grassy smell. I like the smell, but it goes away after a week or two of exposure.

Beware if you have hay fever/ tree pollen allergies!!!
The quality of the pillow is fantastic. I thought to use it on the plane as a travel pillow and to also do double duty as a lightweight pillow to sleep on. It came very stuffed with the most delightfully soft and silky kapok “cotton” and easy to remove excess kapok for one’s neck needs. It was a bit lumpy and high for my very sensitive neck even after removing half of the stuffing (gave me a neck ache / vertebrae grinding headache) so I tossed the idea of using it as a head pillow and instead a firm-ish lumbar support on the sofa. After having used the pillow my face and eyes started burning and my nose started to run. It was too much for my environmental allergies even though I had sealed it in a dust mite proof cover.I really didn’t want to expose myself to another allergic reaction so I put on a dust mask and gloves and disposed of the pillow and excess kapok.I really had high hopes and am trying another Beanpillow (millet) and am also considering buckwheat to replace my current ancient buckwheat pillow.

Kapok is very non allgergenic
My second purchase of the Japanese size pillow from Bean. Very high quality organic cotton cover, and can zip open to take out some of the kapok if it''s too thick. When I learned that back in the 1960's my uncle used to buy only Kapok pillows because he was so allergic to things, I was interested in trying it out. A very find, silky filling naturally from the Kapok pod. Bean company delivered a day early from my selected day. I will be buying as Christmas gifts.

Can get misshapen, but still nice overall
I love that these pillows are all natural fibers and plastic-free. The material is very nice and supportive, but I have noticed that over the course of a night the front part will flatten out and the material will move to the back. I usually flip it over and fluff it up every couple of nights. It is not too soft and not too firm, but just doesn't hold a shape super well. I haven't tried removing some of the material, but I think that might help.

Understuffed, smelly
This pillow has been a major disappointment. We bought it for our toddler's first pillow, trying to avoid having him breathe in toxic materials each night. Fresh out of the box, the pillow seemed a little understuffed. Within a week, it was flat (with only a 3 year old's head sleeping on it!). It will temporarily plump up when you fluff it, but quickly returns to its flat state. In addition, despite having covered it immediately with an organic zippered pillow cover and organic pillow case, the pillow smells (like damp kapok?)...so much so that our son's face also smells after sleeping on it. I guess we'll be switching to an organic cotton pillow...

NOT The perfect pillow (20x30)
UPDATE: 2 months after using; this pillow is still perma-creased from the shipping. No amount of fluffing will fix it. Now the pillow flattens out in minutes after laying on it; there is maybe 3/4” of kapok supporting my head. 1) this pillow should not be shipped folded in half and vacuum sealed, that breaks the pillow 2) there isn’t enough kapok stuffing. Can you please send me more kapok stuffing so your pillow actually works as a pillow?Original: I've been looking for the perfect pillow for years, and this is it! I had tried kapok pillows that were smaller than this one, and they weren't so great... this one is. Highly recommended, all natural plant fibers, organic cotton case, that's all you need! One thing i would say to the manufacturer is... this pillow shipped folded in half, under high pressure creasing, and wrapped tightly in plastic. The center crease on the pillow is permanent and the fibers in the middle never really un-crease, creating a fold in the center of the pillow. Fluffing shaking and punching doesn't solve this after 3 weeks, maybe re-arranging the kapok inside the pillow will do the trick.
