I bought this official Makita trimmer head since I wasn't positive the "bare-tool" trimmer would come with one, so just in case, I purchased this spare trimmer head, figuring I would need it eventually. Fortunately, my trimmer did come with one. They are a bit tricky to figure out the shaft locking, but once you do, you just spin it on. The trimmer line life is the best I've ever seen. I've trimmed my small yard, that has numerous granite granite cobblestone and concrete boarder walls, which usually tear up the line, and I've only had to bump feed twice on each time I did the yard. Bump feed works perfectly. Very happy with this trimmer, the bump head and the line that comes from Makita.

This head screwed right on the xru12 easily. I did need a wide channel lock Pliar to unscrew the old one. I hope this part lasts longer than the original, which deformed to the point that it would not stay clipped on, failing in less than a year of light use.

Got the part number by calling Makita, and then ordered this part from Amazon. It arrived two days later and came in the original packaging from Makita so it appears to be the real deal. No instructions as far as installing it but I managed to figure it out
