Beautiful Healthy Vanilla Orchid
8-7-25 I'm reviewing the Vanilla Bean Orchid plant I purchased from Wellspring Gardens. This is not the 1st time I've ordered plants from them via Amazon. I've always had an excellent experience with this seller and business. Let me go into the pros.. I'm a plant lover... I live in a temperate growing zone of about 7a to 6b. I'll be keeping this particular plant indoors its entire life. This calls for dappled light, so be sure not to put this near a South facing window. I received a beautiful specimen of about 6 inches above the moss level, but this had some good rooting so this made the plant about 10 inches long in total. The leaves and stalk look extremely bright green, glossy, and healthy. This came with a little stake and twist tie to secure the vining plant to, but I opted to not use the twist tie, at least not at this point. I've repotted this into a "self watering" hanging pot, also purchased on Amazon, but I'm not exactly watering the pot with this plant. If you notice in my pics, the inner pot has many holes and slits. I find this perfect for the orchid in helping maintain humidity. I take the inner slotted portion out and set it outside when it's pouring, or if not use spring water to run through. Then place the inner portion back in the pot. The medium is perfectly moist and the residual drops line the pot bottom, but won't directly contact the medium or roots. The plant seems old enough to be able to handle some stress, like that of a move to a new home. I see no damage or rot to the plant whatsoever. The only downside would be the cost, however, I'd purchase it all over again, because from this particular seller you'll know you have a fighting chance with whatever plant you receive. I previously bought a Banana plant... and she's huge, probably 6 yrs old or close to and has now produced pups as well.

Live plant, great instructions
The plant came in great shape and with instructions on everything a novice would need to know (its me, im the novice). I've had this plant for 6 months give or take, and its taken off. The plant that was there when I first got it hasn't grown at all as far as I can tell, but is still green and healthy. Another bit started growing shortly after I first got it, and has shot up. Its standing over a foot tall and I really need to get it into a new pot. I think its worth the money

Healthy, happy and beautiful little plant.
My little beauty arrived healthy and perfect. Her soil was not dry and all leaves were intact. I gave her a few days to acclimate before re-potting. In less than one week she has grown over an inch and is gorgeous. I cannot say enough to express my satisfaction and happiness. She is not my first orchid, so I am comfortable taking care of her. Thank you.

I do NOT recommend but it's your $
I’m very disappointed with this purchase. I’m an experienced orchid grower and have successfully rehabilitated many near-dead orchids, but this is my first vanilla bean orchid. I followed all care instructions upon arrival—transplanted it immediately into a fresh orchid potting mix and placed it with my six other healthy orchids, each in their own pots. I maintain a consistent weekly care routine, watering and tending to all my orchids every Saturday. Despite this, the vanilla orchid has not thrived. Its leaves are dull and wrinkled, showing signs of stress and decline. I plan to sterilize and repot it again in hopes of saving it, but my experience with this plant has been disappointing from the start. Unfortunately, given the outcome and the plant’s condition, I won’t be purchasing expensive plants from Wellspring again.

So pleased!
So so pleased. My husband ordered these for me for Christmas, I had previously attempted to order vanilla orchids through a different amazon seller, and after much delay received a strange mystery plant from a sketchy source. THESE HOWEVER, are beautiful! they came so quickly, packaged beautifully, and thoughtfully with so much helpful information. The plants seem very healthy and were not dried out at all. I have no complaints. The plants even exhibited new healthy tendril growth. I had to put them out of my sight for a few minutes just to calm down from being so excited to receive them. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that its description does say that they should be at least 3 inches long and fully rooted. The plants weren't quite three inches long, and one of them appeared to be a loose cutting. However, the loose cutting was showing signs of healthy growth, and upon doing some research it should develop roots and thrive so long as i keep it packed tightly in its sphagnum moss and moist. It's a couple of weeks later after receiving them, and they are still healthy and appear to be tracking light with their growth. So So Happy, excellent product.

Starts, not "live plants". Very small starts. Requires more than basic knowledge of orchids.
Update: I was offered a refund if I sent back item. Disappointing. I would rather have had "live plants" not starts. I upgraded the rating from one star to 3. OP: These are not "plants", they are starts. They have no roots. They are planted in sphagnum moss on top of regular potting soil (not the proper soil for epiphitic orchids). Regular potting soil is used for starts, to keep them humid. One starter plant arrived broken. I am very knowledgable about orchids and have them in a nursery hoping the starts begin to root and become plants. Today, I have observed snails! Thankfully I have these quarantined to the nursery and in their own cloche. I gave only one stars because the photo looks like plants, not starts. The photo is deceptive. I am also waiting for feedback from company. If they resolve the issue by resending plants, I will be satisfied. Be ready for the process of babysitting starter plants, not just repotting and stabilizing "live plant" (This wording is deceptive.) Always quarantine your plants. Mine came with snails. The company says, no returns. I have communicated with them. If they resolve the problem by sending new "live plants", I will give them three or four stars. If they clarify better these are "starts", not "live plants" as described, I would give them five stars. Starts are pretty healthy except for snails.

Beautiful Vanilla Orchids
I was very worried that the 6 day shipping would leave me with damaged plants, but these little plants arrived in pristine condition! No snails or bugs, rooted in peat moss that was still very moist when opened. I could not be happier with this purchase. I contacted the seller with my concerns, before the plants arrived, and received an immediate response with what to do if the plants were damaged. Excellent customer support!
