We have our granddaughters over often, and each time one or both of the little ones try to escape to the back yard or out the front door. They figured out how to open the deadlock and the standard chain tye or hook type open just enough that they could smash their fingers. I bought two of these, they each installed in about 5 minutes and keep the doors solidly shut. No escaping, but they do get frustrated that they can't open the door :-) . Great device and easy to unlatch... Great product and would recommend. Only downside, which seems to be every gadget these days is they provide phillips head screws. I threw them away and used torx type.

I bought it to stop my 3-year-old from busting out of the house like a tiny, pantsless escape artist on a juice box high. And guess what? It works pretty well — by which I mean I now enjoy the calming sound of frustrated toddler grunts as they try to MacGyver the door open with a plastic spoon. This thing installs easily (translation: I only said 3 swear words), and once it’s in, it’s not going anywhere. It’s sturdy, solid, and clearly designed by someone who has personally experienced a small child trying to join the neighborhood dog walk unsupervised. Pros: Reinforces your door like you're preparing for a toddler-led siege. Easy to use for adults, meaning anyone over 4' tall with basic motor skills. Adds an extra layer of security, or at least, an extra 30 seconds of panic time during a break-in. Cons: Doesn’t stop the child from screaming “OPEN THE DOOR!” like you’ve locked them in an emotional prison. Not strong enough to keep out your in-laws, unfortunately. I now have to unlock two locks every time I get takeout. Inconvenient, but worth it for child containment. It’s also become my go-to way of saying “We are done going outside today.” The door’s locked, reinforced, and child-proofed. The tiny inmate is still inside. Success. Final Verdict: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – 5 stars. Perfect for stopping kids, buying time during a zombie apocalypse, or just making your door feel like it’s seen some things.

I have a very old home, and at first, it seemed like the fit wasn't going to be right. Fortunately, even though I didn't install it as intended, it ended up fitting in and has been extremely sturdy. No young kid will be able to open it up, and the only way to break through would be to break down the door. That lock isn't budging.
