Smart Thermostat Essential - Energy Star Certified programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat - Works with Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant

Set was super easy, I thought it would be a more daunting task but they killed it when it comes to instructions. It will ask you everything to ensure you connect it right. Other than that, app works great, saves me money on my power bill 10/10

Easy to install and Ecobee customer support was wonderful with how I needed to wire it. They provided on the phone support and walked me through the entire installation even testing the system. The Essential does the same as the others basically but does not include the sensor nor air quality monitor. It was replacing a basic non programable Honeywell (cheap) that did have a c wire. The compatibility of the wiring was a little different than this one but customer support walked me through the changes. The temperature control is so easy to control from the wall or the app on your smart phone. Wifi is needed but stays connected all the time with no issues. I will purchase a 2nd one. We have had these before in another home and loved them. I misplaced my 2 sensors so not able to control certain rooms just yet but the past experience they work perfectly.

Fairly easily replaced my old Google Nest thermostat (2nd gen). Since google is discontinuing the ability to control the gen 1 and gen 2 models using the app after October 2025, I neeeded it replace it, as I use the app frequently. To be fair, Google sent an email about it, along with a $130 discount voucher for their newest, fanciest model. I suppose it would have been a super deal, although I was so upset about them killing a perfectly good product, that I deleted the email in a huff. A month later, after looking around at the various smart thermostats, I concluded it might be easiest to just replace it with another google (?) product. Of course, the email was nowhere to be found in the trash or anywhere else. Contacted them to see if they could send it again, and it had to get to level 2 support just for them to tell me that my thermostat wasn’t eligible after all. Bah humbug. The ecobee had the main features I use (fan on by itself for adjustable periods of time (15, 30, 60, 120 minutes), as well as a temp hold for if you’re home longer than your usual schedule, with override options. These features aren’t quite as intuitive as I’d like, but with use they have become easier to find and activate. The install was ok, though the round bottom edges of the unit prevented its use with the already installed google trim plate. So, a bit of drywall touchup and paint was needed. The bigger issue was the need for a C wire. After a bit of panic and/or distress about there not having been one on the Nest unit, I finally discovered an unused wire wrapped around both ends of the cable: one at the wall, and one inside the hvac unit. So after looking at the situation, I decided to unwrap and connect the blue unused wire to the C terminal inside the hvac, and to the C terminal on the thermostat. All works fine and I am happy enough, and even discovered that there *were* instructions about the extra wire in the installation app, but I only discovered that after I figured it out on my own. Sigh, and I’m an engineer, ha ha.

Ecobee provides among the worst customer service operations I have encountered. They are very good at responding timely feedback, but awful at actual problem solving. I have gone around and around with them on my issue for 32 days nows. I bought 5 Ecobee Essential thermostats with the intent to enroll them all in the PSEG-LI rebate program. Only two devices have been successfully installed. Ecobee refuses to acknowledge that the devices are not registered despite what the utility company says and they will not talk directly to the utility company. But I am out 3 $85 rebates so far because Ecobee and PSEG-LI cannot determine why my devices remain unregistered, and teh two support groups will not communicate with each other, All they want to do is blame the other service and say "not my problem". I do believe the issue is on the Ecobee end and I have tried, so far with no success, to get in contact with a more senior Ecobee representative instead ob being bounced from person to person, each being unfamiliar with my situation. I have water about 5 hours of my time fighting this battle so far.

We stayed in a vacation rental which had this thermostat which we really liked, so we bought one for our home. It was pretty easy to install. A tech support guy helped me diagnose the issue when the thermostat didn't energize. The previously unused blue common "C" wire was not wired inside of the furnace panel, so it wasn't giving the thermostat the 24v that it needed. I was told which wires to splice it into. Did that and it fired right up. Great tech support folks!

The thermostat works great, gotta tweak a few settings, otherwise if it is cold it alerts you that Aux heat has run for 3+ hours in 24 hours. And make sure it is installed correctly if you have a heat pump.

I bought this to replace a two year-old model from the other smart thermostat company that the manufacturer decided would no longer be supported. That meant the most important thing that I purchased it for, to be able to monitor and control my HVAC when I was away from my home, would be virtually useless. This new ecobee unit was less expensive than that one was, and blows it away technologically and aesthetically. It integrates better with Alexa , and is dramatically easier and more intuitive to adjust on the unit itself. The iOS app is much slicker as well. The ecobee unit displays the humidity on the face of the unit, and the app has some really nice historical reports that are easy to get to and very easy to decipher. I am an ex-Air Force avionics tech, 35 year commercially rated pilot/flight instructor, and 15 year statewide telecom supervisor retiree. It ain’t easy to impress me with tech, this unit checks all the boxes.

So much nicer when something just works. After fighting with a more name brand unit for three days, I gave up trying to get it to connect to its internet 'cloud'. As a retired field engineer for major mainframe computer manufacturers, I have the skill, tools, and instruments to troubleshoot virtually any electronic device. I also have a range extender from the same maker which performs well. So I was fairly infuriated that attempts to get their thermostat working was a donkey ride through Hades. Bottom line: back it went, and in came the ecobee. What a difference. Installed perfectly out of the box, their app gui is very well written, and there are enough adjustments to occupy your winter indoor time for as long as you want. All this from what they bill as their "Essential" model. If you, like me, don't need or want the bread maker to start playing recorded versions of your streaming videos in 4K whenever you automatically open your garage door by playing a secret MP3 while pulling into your drive, and just want a quality thermostat whose schedule and activity can be easily and reliably set, you should seriously consider this device.
