This is so well made I felt comfortable trying all kinds of different positions
I weigh 250lb and worried that I would have to hold my breath every time I moved for fear of tearing the hammock. Not so! This is so well made I felt comfortable trying all kinds of different positions. There is plenty of room so I was able to get comfortable and not feel claustrophobic. Initial quality on unpacking looked good, feels good in the hand, etc. Sleeping in it made me a believer. I also washed it this weekend (in oxyclean -- long story). No color fade and feels as good as new. This is not an inexpensive hammock so I expected something very high quality. Part of the equation for me is the reputation of the company and support. If it lasts as long as I hope it will I think this is a fair exchange of money for quality. I keep it in my truck all the time now. I tie one end to the roof rack and the other to a tree.

Should have bought years ago
I recently purchased the Hennessy Explorer zip hammock. I grew up camping, I spent many a night on the ground in the Marine Corps and it never seemed to bother me. As I've gotten older I still love to get outdoors, but I find that it doesn't love me so much. Even with the deluxe camp version of the Thermarest I would wake up and feel like I'd gone ten rounds with George Foreman. My back, hips and shoulders would hurt, and I'd be tired. At a recent Order of the Arrow event I was introduced to the Hennessy hammocks. I bought one because I knew I could return it to Amazon if I didn't like it, but I was hoping for relief. When the hammock arrived, I was impressed with what appeared to be top notch construction and materials. I set it up in our yard for practice and just to try it out. Setup was easy and fairly straight forward. The first campout I took it on, I also took a tent just in case. There is a learning curve to sleeping in this hammock and I can't say that I got MORE sleep in the hammock than I get in a tent, but when I got out of bed in the morning there were no aches and pains!I've since spent 5 more nights in the hammock, and every one has been better than the last, and they ALL have been better than a night in a tent. I still sometimes feel a little claustrophobic, and I am primarily a side sleeper so I do sometimes wish I could comfortably sleep that way fully. I often sleep in kind of a half side/half back position which works for me almost as well. Stomach sleepers, other than those with Chinese acrobat-like flexibility, I don't think a hammock is for you...I use my Thermarest underneath for insulation and when paired with a Wiggy's Ultra Light sleeping bag, I have been warm and cozy even when the temperature dips into the low to mid 30's (Fahrenheit). The only complaint I have is that the thermarest isn't quite wide enough and I have sometimes woken up with a cold shoulder where I slip off of it, but of course that has nothing to do with the hammock... I think I'll buy the reflective insulation that Hennessy sells because it's wider at the shoulders than the Thermarest.I would definitely suggest purchasing the snake skins, and I also replaced the tie-out lines on the fly (these were cheap and seemed to snag everything) with some of the MSR reflective line. The only other things I don't like have nothing to do with THIS hammock, but seem to be a weakness of hammocks in general are the lack of storage space, and the lack of privacy. I deal with the storage space by bringing either a smallish tarp or a small one-man tent for my gear to keep the rain/dew off. Both of these solutions diminish the appeal of hammock camping by increasing the weight, size and the time it takes to setup camp. Privacy when you are in the hammock isn't the problem, trying to get dressed while laying in a hammock is NOT easy, but climbing out of the hammock to get dressed is not always advisable...The bottom line is that this is a great product with a learning curve that offers all the benefits and suffers most of the drawbacks of it's nature as a hammock. None of the drawbacks is a fatal flaw IMO, they just require that you adapt to deal with them. The benefits certainly outweigh the drawbacks for me.Update: 22 Aug 2013I have now spent an entire 8 days straight camping and a few more over nighters with this hammock and I've learned a few more things. I THINK I might like a bridge hammock like Jacks R Better sells but I'm not sure since I don't own one. I find that my knees sometimes hurt from being slightly over extended. Rather than buy one, I am seriously considering making my own. Hammockforums dot net has a TON of great information on hammock camping including DIY hammocks. I would HIGHLY recommend spending some time over there before pulling the trigger on a hammock.None of this has fundamentally altered my opinion of this hammock though. It's still a great product and for me it's vastly superior to sleeping in a tent. It's just not quite...ideal for me and I'm enough of a tinkerer to think that I may just be able to build my own hammock nirvana.

I purchased this hammock ahead of a week long Boundary Waters canoe trip. It packs down a little large, I would recommend getting the snake skins to help pack it down tighter. You will definitely need the proprietary insulation system sold by Hennessy Hammocks in order to capitalize on the asymmetrical design. I was able to camp in this hammock using a traditional underquilt that didn't fit correctly. I made it through the week just fine but will be getting the proprietary insulating system before my next trip out. The setup is tricky and I would advise watching the video on Hennessy's website before your first trip. It goes up pretty slick when you know how to do it. I stayed completely dry and bug free throughout the week thanks to the integrated bug net and rain fly system. I was able to set the hammock up in a variety of wooded conditions without any issue. The asymmetrical design also makes for a comfortable sleeping position. The rain fly sides can be opened to a more parallel position to allow increased airflow on warmer nights or pulled down tighter to keep heat in or in the event of heavy rains. You will likely want to add 2 tent stakes to the package in the event you have limited trees or brush to extend the side fly lines to.

Ive been hammocking for 3 years so far and i love hammocks! My wbb recently got torn by a toddler, so i wanted to try out a new system. This hammock is way to narrow! Im only 6 feet tall and my feet is constantly being pressed against the mosquito netting and head is bend on top of the netting. I like the ridgeline organiser, but thats about it. Its hard to change the suspension system and it is not pleasant at all. The tarp is to small to cover the hammock if there is a descent wind and unless you string your hammock on about 33 degree angle, which is not always accessible on the trail, the tarp will become slack and VERY loose. The pros of this hammock:The zipper is extremely well designed and the hammock material is heavy duty! This means that i can lay in pretty cold temps, before i get the cold but syndroom, and have to attach my underquilt. Its also a very good idea, with the internal ridgeline, that makes the hammock angle almost perfect every time! But i have to say this hammock is not very comfortable for people over 6 foot. If i can advise anyone in hammocks, i would go with the ticket to the moon hammock instead! Ive been using them for years and i love them. Im planning on bringing it to the pct for a thru hike next year! Contact me if you have any questions and i will be happy to answer

The build quality is great, the asymmetrical design is very comfortable
I have mixed feelings about this hammock. The build quality is great, the asymmetrical design is very comfortable, and I'm glad I bought the larger version (a friend has smaller model, it's WAY too small for an average adult to be comfortable in). But the hammock is brutally overpriced for what you get. Considering how much they're charging, they could at least have thrown in a pair of carabiners and adjustable tree straps instead of the plain tie-off ropes. The fly is also too small. In bad weather, it's almost impossible to rig this fly to keep high wind and rain from blowing in (see the pictures of the product on the company's website, the triangular sides are a really bad idea...), and it gives zero protection to your gear under the hammock. You're paying a huge amount of money for this hammock, and I can pretty much guarantee you're going to have to spend even more on a larger replacement fly that will properly cover the hammock and also keep your gear dry, and on aftermarket carabiners and straps. It's also cheesy that they charge you another $25 for the snakeskins, which should be part of the standard package at this price and not an add on. I love hammock camping, and asymmetrical is the way to go. But what you get from Hennessy doesn't justify the premium pricetag of this hammock. Shop around, you'll get similar quality for much less money.

Tree straps are missing
The product tags and documentation provided by Hennessy mentions tree straps, they're not in the package. Should I tell Hennessy that Amazon removes part of the package and resells them separately?

Very comfortable!
This gives me a great night sleep. Although more expensive than some models, I feel the excellent design, material quality and small details are well worth it.

No more acking back on my camping trips.
I love this thing!I use it when I go on road trips with my motorcycle or when I go camping with the family (it's my nap hammock). It's much smaller than a tent to carry on the bike, and a million times more comfortable. No pressure points, no rocks on roots to poke my back.If it's hot there's nice air flow to keep you cool, if it's chilly you must put an insulating mat inside because you'll freeze, but a simple thin camping mat will do just fine. It's made with very very tough fabric, I'm 6'2" and 240lbs and the thing holds me easily. All the seams are triple or quad stitched. The rain proof roof will keep you dry and being orr the ground means your floor NEVER gets wet.Really.... I have nothing bad to say about this product. It's awesome.

Well made product and great concept but somethings to consider...
The product is really well made and I love the concept. It's easy to setup provided you have two adequate trees, I had a backup tent just in case but I do worry that when I go backpacking, I won't have the luxury of carrying a spare tent "just in case".A couple of things you should know about though... all those people that said this "was the best sleep they ever had"... I would read those reviews with some skepticism. This isn't a slam on the product but something I think is inherent to sleeping in any hammock. It takes a few days to get used to sleeping in this thing and after having slept in it for a week, I have had unrelenting neck and shoulder pain for almost two weeks now. I am still very hopeful that it's simply a matter of "breaking" myself in... and all will be good. Fingers crossed...The other thing to consider is the "open concept" that this style of camping has... you can see EVERY thing! With a tent, you can be peacefully oblivious to any and all creatures that visit your campsite throughout the night. Say goodbye to that blissful oblivion with this hammock. Skunks, raccoons, bears, you name it, you will see them...
