3 stars give a 5 star performance
This is quite simply a brilliant film, though not for the feint-hearted, Thoroughly entertaining and gripping throughout it charts the rise and demise in the life of a modern day gangster (Robert De Nero) in the frightening world of the hidden crime gangs, as they control and manipulate the gambling empire built by casinos. The modern day 'moll' (Sharon Stone) is terrific, and plays the part of a very sad character, a very sad reminder that for some, they really have very little chance in life to turn things round. The third central character, that of bodyguard and operations fixer (Joe Pesci), is not one to pick an argument with. In order to give a clear indication of 'the way things run' it was necessary to show scenes of explicit violence and cruelty. I felt both sympathy and 'they got what they deserved' as punishment was dished out time after time along the way. However, the thing that moved me the most about this film was that both the guilty and innocent (who just happened to get in the way) were brushed aside, showing clearly that no one was indispensable. Corruption, blackmail, money laundering, fraud, extortion are all within this tale, making it a great example of the crime thriller genre. I highly recommend this to any collector of this type of film for I'm sure you'll not be disappointed. A great cast, great story and great direction make this 5 star entertainment.

One of Scorsese's best in awesome 4K visuals
Casino is perfect movie about mafia and Las Vegas, with awesome cast. It doesn't feel like 3 hours movie thanks to good pace, interesting story and special kind of Scorcese's situation humor. 4K UHD release gives great picture (for great camera work and beautifully shot locations). I enjoyed the bonus features, especially documentary about real guy behind Robert DeNiro character and commentary (= cut mix of misc participants) is also good. Another positive of this release is plenty of subtitles for misc languages and - bonus features are subtitled too, which is great for me. I recommend this!

I want an equal amount of buleberries in each muffin! An equal amount!
A great gangster movie! Martin Scorsese really delivered on the goods!!For those of you that have a short attention span, be warned this is a long movie! But if you really follow the movie, which you have to do to pick up the little intricacies that add to the plot, you should be able to appreciate the growing complexity of the plot. The main thing to mention is that this movie shares a lot with the other Scorsese movie 'Goodfellas'! Joe Pecsi's character is too similar to the one he played in 'Goodfellas'! A trigger happy thug who has ambitions of runnig the show. I don't want to ruin both movies for anyone who hasn't seen it but his character reaches the end of both movies the exact same way! Not really creative!Sharon Stone's character... crackhead! At first she appears to be a sharp and cunning personality, but then turns into a junkie who becomes a pest throughout the movie!! If I was in the moive I would have had her wacked half way through the movie! She annoyed me like all non-comedic crackheads do!I liked the part where the guy running the grocery store starts swearing and his ma keeps telling him not to use that kind of language and he keeps on swearing and she just roles her eyes in dispair! Also, the part where Robert De Niro losses it over the blueberry muffins and has a talk to the chef!! I love the look on the chef's face when he says "do you know how long that will take?"All in all, a good movie definitely worth seeing, but if you've seen Godfellas or aren't really into gangster movies, then just rent it!But if you're like me and don't mind seeing a movie a million times till you've memorized large chucks of the dialogue then go for it!

The Germans come to the rescue again
Having had copies of this on both VHS & DVD, Casino was one of the 1st movies I bought on blu-ray format.Alas, for some very unusual reason, the UK copy I had (& I always kept in clean) would no longer play on my blu-ray player. So I checked out the versions available here on Amazon. Sure enough, there was a German version available &, having got a number of movies pressed in Germany, I bought it.Straight away it surpassed the UK blu-ray release. The colours were more natural & richer, the sound was much sharper & it just made this excellent movie even more enjoyable

A true classic
This is possibliby one of the best films ever made. Up there with Goodfellas, The Godfather,The shawshank Redemption,Ben Hur,Bladerunner and others i can`t think of right now. The acting, script, direction and overall feel of the film is truly magnificent.Even though the film runs for nearly 3 hours it will fly by as you get totally involved in the dealings and private lives of the characters. The film is based around the Mafia`s involvement in the casino`s of Las Vegas in the early 70`s. It shows the rise and very big fall of some of the most vicious and greedy characters in the casino scene. As always De Niro and Pesci are fantastic together with Sharon Stone not far behind. Anyone who has owned this film on DVD in the past will know how bad the original transfer to digital was.......this is much better. Some scenes look like they were filmed yesterday but there are some which still look just as bad. I`m not sure why that is....maybe the original stock film was bad perhaps?! Anyway, it still does not detract from a great film which you must buy!!!
