They can be used as ice trays or for freezing purees, flavored ice, soups, etc. The squares are deep and the lids help from spills liquids in the freezer. The silicone material makes for easy removal of the cubes after freezing. They do not omit an off flavor on the cubes after use.

The cover is kinda pointless, the rest is as described. I am not sure of the quality of the plastic, I hope it doesn't leech chemicals into the cubes
