Product works well - easy to use
This product works well behind the pitcher or catcher, or standing behind the screen in a normal sized ball park (aka not a major league distance to the backstop). It was really helpful for coaches to assess velocity quickly during tryouts, is helpful to understand when a pitcher is starting to lose velocity in a game, can be used to assess the opposing pitcher and give hitters an idea of what they are facing, and is really good at testing the difference between fastball and off speed (i.e. is your changeup, curve, slider at 5mph or 10 mph difference from fastball). I have never seen a scout using one of these at the ball park. For that I think you need something that projects better and picks up all angles. But I am not a scout...so it works great for our team.

The Pocket Radar coach is an excellent product. Easy to use and very exact when used accordingly to the specification
The Pocket Radar coach is an excellent product. Easy to use and very exact when used accordingly to its specification. My son pitches for various 14U teams during the year and I use this radar device in many of his games to measure his cruising fastball velocity as well to calculate his change-up to fastball differential. For about $300 dollars, this small device does the same precise job as other expensive baseball radar devices in the market. If you don’t need to take velocity reading from far away distance in wide angles deviations from home plate, then this little device is for you. I have suggested to the company that builds this device to add Text to speech capability mode. This will allow me to get immediate feedback of his velocity when I catch him during our pitching practices. Once the pitchers are throwing around 70+ miles, it is very hard and dangerous to catch them while holding the radar in your throwing hand. Typically, during these type of practices, that is (just the two of us) , I used to place the radar in a tripod safely behind me and set it to “continuous” reading mode. It has a decent buffer size. After 20 pitches, I read the buffered velocities and reset it. Recently I have placed the Radar on top of the catchers helmet using some GoPro widgets... see attached figure...

very accurate
Bought this after i had some suspicions my Bushnell gun was off. Much improved! The bushnell is accurate if you're very close -within about 20 ft. -otherwise it picks up the ball too late to give an accurate read and gives a lot of misreads. Was constantly off by ~7-10 mph. Ball coach has good range, easy to use, and accurate. Wish I'd bought it sooner. It's expensive, but personally, an inaccurate gun is useless. What's the point in measuring ball speed, using something that doesn't work (Bushnell). Would definitely recommend the upgrade.

Awesome tool
The ball coach works great and seems to be pretty accurate. The downside is its range for use and if you can't be directly behind or in front of the ball.

Tennis Anyone?
My Gamma SpeedTrac X radar recently stopped working so I purchased a Pocket Radar as a replacement for measuring the relative speed of my (and friends) tennis serves. The best way I found for measuring serve speed is to mount it on a tripod just behind the net. Yes, you need to put it on “Constant On” and then after serving, scroll through the memory using the recall button. This is kind of a pain compared to the Gamma SpeedTrac which displays the speed in large red LED, but I often found that it was difficult to read the Gamma red LED in the sunlight. Pros: o Ease of use o Portability (the size of an iPhone) o Technology yields more accurate and consistent readings (vs Gamma) o It works Cons: o On the expensive side (but worth it) o Battery life not great o No Bluetooth connection (to a phone so you can see your speed right away without walking to the net) Conclusion: o Overall, I like this radar device much better than the Gamma for tennis serves

Ball Coach Radar changes how we train and look at the game!
I have coached baseball and softball for over 5 years. The Coach Ball Radar has given my players the ability to understand the importance of ball exit speed. Adding just one mph to their ball exit speed can get them an extra 5 feet in hitting distance. This is great to know while shopping for the right bat. If the bat is too heavy it will slow down their swing, thus not giving them maximum distance. When setting up the Ball Coach Radar, I place it on a tripod and let the continuous mode work as I feed the kids pitches. This is such a plus because i don't have to keep holding and pressing the button. Furthermore, using the Ball Coach for pitching allows me to get my players to understand the difference between fastball's and change ups. They can clearly see that by gripping and throwing the change up correctly, it can take 6-8 mph off their fastballs. I use the Ball Coach to understand when my pitchers are getting tired (I notice when their fastball's are dropping 2-3 mph). All of these features are great, but the last thing I want is people thinking I am all about using a "radar". So when I use it and parents say...oh that's a great idea to video the kids in action...I just chuckle (It's stealth. Looks like a video recorder. I can train and scout without anybody knowing). Overall, A+ Product that changes how we train and look at the game. (I coach 8-10 year old boys and 10-12 year old girls)

Love it. Necessary and highly recommended tool for serious baseball development.
Great product! Very impressed after a month of use. I'm a NCCP trained minor baseball coach (Canada), teaching aged 10 and 11 house league and all star teams. Awesome feedback tool for developing pitching skills. I'm finding the tool allows you to concentrate on good mechanics, with the speed measurement as excellent feedback for coach and player. Also using for batting speed purposes, but swing of bat seems to be judged sometimes too perhaps. Haven't totally isolated that issue yet. But absolutely awesome for pitch speed. A highly recommended and necessary tool for any serious coach. Amazon had great price and they have the best servicing. I'm historically an eBay fan (800+ 100% feedback since 2000) but looking more and more at Amazon these days.
