Ready to Run: Unlocking Your Potential to Run Naturally [Starrett, Kelly, Murphy, T.J.] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Ready to Run: Unlocking Your Potential to Run Naturally Review: Great, easy read on natural running mechanics and self evaluation and improvement - Easily lays out the importance of mechanics and preparation needed for natural running and explains why decades of modern life have corrupted people's ability to run the way the body is meant to. If you're contemplating switching to "barefoot" running, are plagued with running aches and injuries, or want to run healthily for the span of your life, this book is for you. A great, shorter, more specific book about self diagnosis and self help in regard to proper body mechanics as it relates to running over Kelly's more comprehensive, full body, Becoming a Supple Leopard. I have both and recommend both. Review: Easy read with good info - Easy read with good info. I have made many changes already. I have learned that many of the things about she, nutrition and posture has been wrong. Thanks to Kelly I am now properly able to care for my body and able to teach my kids correctly. This book is easy to read and straight to the point. My running consists of Tabata sprints and this book I found to be much more than a better runner. I recommend it to all runners and those wanting to take care of their body for long term success.

A must-read for runners who are tired of dealig with injury.
Clearly written and very easy to follow with good diagrams of how to do the exercises and movements. The author makes logical sense out of the physical movement and problems with the human body which makes it easy to understand. It is a good read for runners who are tired of injuries and a good reference book to come back to.

Great for runners, worthwhile for everyone to become more conscious of improving mobility
This is an extremely worthwhile book for anyone who is interested in taking care of their bodies generally as well as learning the habits that Kelly says will allow a lifetime of running. This guide really hit home for me. To give some perspective on my review: I used to run 7 miles most days, but stopped because a sports medicine doctor told me that if I continued I would have arthritis by my early 30s and the next doctor told me that I just wasn't born to run. I've tried many of the "open your wallet" remedies that Kelly mentions - custom orthotics, lots of special new shoes, expensive P.T., strength-building & stretching exercises, and none of them actually fixed the problem - my double case of runner's knee and hip pain has lingered despite having given up running years ago. This places me squarely in the target market for this book. The style of writing is terrific - Ready to Run gives understanding, encouragement ("your tissues can change, your joints can change, and you can change"), solid explanations for what is wrong with how runners/our society approach(es) running and why, as well as tough advice (the only way to succeed in meeting these standards is to take time (10-15 minutes) to do them every day, correctly, forever). The photos alongside step-by-step directions are easy to follow, and worth doing for everyone, even if someone isn't committed to running. Kelly's standards span a wide range of exercises to perform to address common running-related injuries and misconceptions. All the advice here has merit beyond running specifically, but just in the context of taking better care of your body, instead of hoping it will hold up if you ice and take anti-inflammatories as needed. Kelly's obvious passion for helping people who want to run develop good habits and proper form instead of relying on custom gear and painkillers really comes through.

Its like this book fell from heaven.
Best book on running I've ever read. It's not a training manual, it's a book on preparing yourself for the training that lies ahead. I've battled achilles tendonosis for years now and no doctor has been able to give me a straight answer except "just keep stretching it", "take these prescription anti-inflammatories", "wear these cork heel-lift inserts", etc, etc, etc.... All of these things made my problem worse. I've been doing exactly what this book says for less than a month now and my achilles feels better than it has in YEARS. I could not be happier.

This book is awesome. It not only addresses a problem
This book is awesome. It not only addresses a problem, but, unlike other books I have read, it proposes specific standards. I failed the first standard and immediately started working on it. I have passed one of the standards, so I know I can spend less time on that. My hip mobility had substantially improved in 2 weeks by faithfully doing the couch stretch daily for 2 minutes per side. i have been having minor knee and achilles tendon issues with my left leg and, due to following the instructions in the book, I have found sore spots in my left leg that I had no idea existed. I am almost wishing I had bought the hard copy of the book, rather than Kindle, because I am referring back to it so often.

an absolute MUST READ
This book is for anyone who wants to live/move/play pain and injury free. I love running and I don't want to give it up despite recurrent injuries. This book offers real solutions for injury prevention and healing that will allow me to enjoy my runs for years to come. As a Pilates instructor I recommend this book to everyone and the principles of form and mobility are for everyone - children to adults. It's a quick read with principles that can be applied immediately for lasting results. I can't recommend this book enough.

As always Kelly Starrett and TJ Murphy have produced a great resource. Really straight forward and helpful. Reading the book you can't help but want to start working on your problem areas. The information is practical and there is a sample plan for anyone who wants something to start with. I would recommend this to anyone who runs.

To be honest, even though I'm a fan of Starrett's this book felt a little half baked. At points it seems like there arre pictures missing as the words seems to leave gaps in correspondence with the pictures. I actually got tired of trying to spend time understanding what was supposed to be taught in the pictures and text that I put it away. Maybe I'll give it a new look later... but as proud and convinced as Kelly sounds in is YouTube clips and elsewhere I had been expecting a more thorough job... this seems not quite finished...

Fantastic companion to Supple Leopard, and excellent stand-alone resource as well. This book finally got me 'flossing' and it's by far the best change I've made to my mobility routine. My ankle and knee pain are resolving rapidly. If you walk, run or stand, you'll get a lot of value from this book. This is not a 'how to run' resource, but instead a 'how to ensure you're looking after your body, so that if and when you want to move it, you're going to be able to do so without pain, and without causing injury' resource.
