Solid winch, clever clutch release.
I have tried a couple of Rugcel winches and this is by far my favourite. First of all, I really like the synthetic rope. I know it’s not as abrasion resistant as steel but it’s so much easier to work with and I won’t miss poking myself on stray strands of wire rope. The mounting for the control box is much improved over the last Rugcel I tried. It’s solid and secure. The controller itself is a nice wireless handheld unit that can also be plugged in if needed. It’s a big improvement over the rather flimsy-looking controllers that come with some other winches, although there’s only one so if you lose or damage it on the trail, you’re out of luck. I am pleased to see that it comes with a battery disconnect switch - good for long term storage to prevent drain by the wireless receiver module, and I personally prefer to have the winch de-energized any time I’m not using it, so this is one less thing to buy separately. My favourite thing about this winch is the remotely actuated electric clutch. It is the first winch I’ve had with this feature, and it’s a game changer. No more walking back and forth while spooling out cable, and no awkward reaching into the recesses of the front end of the truck to fumble with an inaccessible clutch handle. For this feature alone, it’s worth the cost, even if you could get by with a smaller winch. It’s not inexpensive, but it seems like it’s really well made and cleverly designed, and it sure does pull. I think the load rating on these is often overstated, but even if that was the case here, it still seems plenty powerful for anything I’ll ever need to do (honestly, that’s probably limited to pulling the occasional stump or dragging a tree out of the way…). It needs to be mounted on a suitably heavy duty mounting plate. It’s well packaged and arrived undamaged despite its significant weight, and the assembly process is pretty straightforward, with the cables more clearly marked than others I’ve tried. I’m very pleased with it so far.

Affordable, heavy duty and works well overall with some small concerns!
What I liked: This winch certainly brings serious capability: the 13,500 lb rated pull capacity is ample for many truck and SUV recovery situations, and the synthetic rope version is a modern choice that typically weighs less and handles differently than traditional steel cable. According to specs, it features a strong motor, waterproofing, and a hawse fairlead among other benefits. The remote control system (wired + wireless) is a big plus for ease of use and safety, since you can stay away from the recovery zone while operating it. Where it could improve / things to watch: While the specs are impressive, as with many off‑brand high‑capacity winches, the real‑world performance and durability still require proper installation and cautious use. The wire quality (for remote/control) is a little on the thin side. As well I find that the gear/spooling speed isn’t as fast as I would like it to be. Synthetic rope also has advantages but brings its own concerns (UV exposure, abrasion, caring for the rope) which means you’ll want to treat it like premium gear. So it’s important to match the mounting, power supply, wiring, and usage to your vehicle and recovery needs. Verdict: If you’re outfitting a truck or SUV for off‑road recovery and want serious pulling power without spending the price of premium brand winches, this RUGCEL winch is a strong contender. You’ll want to install it properly, test it under safe conditions, and maintain it well (especially the synthetic rope) for the best results. Overall — 4 out of 5 stars for its capability, feature set and value — with the acknowledgment that to get full performance it depends on good setup and usage.

Powerful winch with great build quality and thoughtful features
I’m rebuilding an old Jeep and I'm really impressed with this winch so far. Everything about it looks and feels like a quality product. ✅The synthetic rope is a huge plus — it feels very strong but is much easier (and safer) to handle than a traditional steel cable. ✅The wireless handheld remote is super convenient, and I love that it lets you control the clutch directly. ✅The included battery switch is a smart feature that makes it easy to disable power when the winch isn’t in use. ✅Overall construction feels solid and durable, with a waterproof design that should hold up well to off-road use. Bottom line: A high-quality winch with modern, user-friendly features. The synthetic rope and remote control setup make it a great choice for Jeeps, trucks, or trailers.

Not exactly practical for heavy duty winching
So, this winch, while snazzy looking isn't exactly practical for heavy duty or long haul winching. For every 45 seconds of winching, you need to let the unit cool down for 15 minutes. How is that useful? You're stuck in the woods trying to get yourself or your buddy out and you can only winch for 45 continuous seconds before you have to wait 15 minutes? I had intended on installing this on a tow truck but that sort of waiting period would mean that I would be all day getting one vehicle loaded on the truck and heaven forbid it was a vehicle that needed pulled out of the ditch, that would be a 24 hour event. Just don't see how the small amount of use can justify the steep price tag.

Remote clutch is a time saver
Incredibly rugged and solid in weight this winch is a great property management winch. I've attached this sucker to a mounting plate on my tractor to use for pulling logs and trees out of spaces my tractor can't get to. And the remote clutch just speeds everything up.
