How is it safe for latex when it is coconut oil based?

You raise a good point. All of the literature on coconut oil as a lubricant say that it can degrade latex condoms. That said, I have used it with Skyn and Trojan condoms without any problems.

Can you heat the oil up?

I would say yes although it would depend on how you wanted to heat it. Best scenario would be 10 second increments in a microwave. Check each time to see it it's reached the desired temperature. You keep this lube at room temperature so I can't imagine you'd need to heat it very much. It's not like it feels cold when you use it.
