Is there a way to have the rhythm only do two colors? When I hit the smooth button, all the colors fade into each other but I just want two colors.

Yes, you can .
For example,  you want the lamp to rhythm with  pink and yellow color.

You must set pink and yellow color, and store it in the store button.

1， press the store button (the 1 red heart) , then use the 4 color wheels to set a pink color , this pink color will be store in this store button (the 1 red heart)

2 , Repeat step 1 to store another yellow color into the second save button （1 black heart+1 red heart).

press the second store button (1 black heart+1 red heart) , then use the 4 color wheels to set a yellow color , this yellow color will be store in this second store button  (1 black heart+1 red heart).

3，Long press the  '' DIY FLASH'' button until the light goes out,   
then press the store button (the 1 red heart) ,  
then  press  the second store button (1 black heart+1 red heart) , 
finally press the '' DIY FLASH'' button to confirm. 
Then the light will rhythm with pink and yellow。

4， the speed can be adjust,   you can make the effect better by adjusting the speed

5, there are 5 store button,   you can set more color you like to rhythm.
