I recently purchased the Midea MAW08V1QWT U-Shaped AC Window Air Conditioner, and I can confidently say this is one of the best investments I’ve made for my home comfort. This particular unit is the most updated model, and you can really tell that Midea has listened to customer feedback and improved it in several important ways. Setup & Installation: The installation process was surprisingly easy compared to traditional window AC units. The U-shaped design is truly innovative—it allows you to keep your window mostly functional and lets in natural light while still providing a very secure and stable fit. The included installation kit made things much smoother, and I was able to set it up without needing extra tools or outside help. The design also makes it feel safer since the unit locks into place much more firmly than older box-style window ACs. Noise Level: One of the standout features is how quiet this AC runs. I’ve owned several window air conditioners in the past, and most of them were so loud that they made it hard to sleep, watch TV, or even have a conversation nearby. With this updated model, the noise level is impressively low—it’s almost like having central air conditioning. Even on higher fan speeds, the sound is more of a gentle hum than the typical loud buzzing you’d expect. This has made it absolutely perfect for a bedroom or a home office. Cooling Performance: The cooling process is fast and efficient. Within just a few minutes of turning it on, I could already feel the difference in the room temperature. It evenly distributes cool air and maintains a comfortable environment without constantly cycling on and off. I’ve tried it on both humid and very hot days, and it’s been able to keep up perfectly. I purchased my first one in 2018 and it is still going strong! This AC unit is definitely worth the investment, especially in a city, as you can use the window while it is installed. I have also left it installed year-round since 2018 with zero issues. The unit is whisper quiet, a very important feature for me, as my old one I had to yell over it. The 8000 BTU model has superior cooling performance, it effortlessly cools a large room (13'×15') and even cools outside the room when on full blast. It also has WiFi control capabilites in addition to a manual remote. This is perfect to use their app to raise the temperature when I leave the house and lower it just before I get home so the house isn't muggy when I arrive. Do note that the unit is pretty heavy, and if you have a weird window shape or not a lot of clearance to open the window, the AC sticks into the house about 9 inches and needs a minimum opening to install. We circumvented a small window opening by removing one of the window panes and reinstalling it when the AC was in place. Otherwise, absolutely no complaints, and the cherry on top is the energy efficiency rating! This is why I came back to buy more and I recommend this wholeheartedly to all my friends and family.

The cooling power is pretty good for the front half of our 550 square foot home. The remote never worked well on this model or the last. But MOLD! The much bigger problem is MOLD. The model we had before this was recalled because the condensation sat inside with no drain hole. Mold grew like crazy. When we got our recall check (which took many months to receive) we ordered their updated model. The “fix” they added on this model was a drain hole, but they sent a plug you are supposed to put in the hole. What??? What was the point in that? It, too, would keep the water inside. So we kept the plug out from the start. There is a lot of water draining. However, there is a tall rim on the inner edge of the drain hole that prevents much of the water from draining out. It is designed that way because the water sloshing around is what keeps the motor cool so they can tell you it has an “Eco” feature. But to what end?? After using it for one month last fall (Sept of 2025) we resumed using it again in April. By May, the air coming out smelled very strongly of mold. I quickly developed a mold cough (I’ve had one before, and I recognized it immediately). I looked around to see if this model, too, had a recall. Not yet, as of June 2026. So I contacted Midea via chat on their website, and I informed them of the issue. I asked if they had an even newer model that completely fixed the mold problem. They assured me that the newest model comes with a drain hole and plug kit. I said that the one we currently had had that kit, and that it fixed nothing. We went round and round in circles. They refused to acknowledge any problem and kept telling me they fixed it. I looked on Amazon, and for the same or very similar model, it was $100 (33%) more expensive than it was just in September. I asked if they would be willing to exchange it straight across for us. No. Could they give me a refund check high enough to order the same a/c off Amazon (essentially exchanging it). No. They refused to help in any way except they could “possibly” give me a refund. They halted all conversation with me at that point except to ask if there was anything else they could help me with. Even though there’s a one year warranty, they still had to send my case over to another department to think about whether or not they would even issue a refund of the original price I paid. That really bothered me. They acted like they were doing me a favor. Weeks and weeks later, I was approved and received a refund check for $310. While waiting for the refund, we had to shell out $400 plus tax for a comparable model. I think they could easily fix the problem. I don’t understand why they choose not to. It’s really putting people’s health at risk, especially medically vulnerable ones like me. Even though we took the old air conditioner out a month ago, I’m still coughing all day and night from the bronchitis it caused me to develop. I’ve been coughing for over two months thus far. So, unless and until this issue is fixed, I wouldn’t recommend that anyone should buy any of their products.

This is a great AC unit. It's so much quieter than standard types. Initially I bought the 8000 BTU version and then like so much got the 10000BTU for another part of the house. I think if I were to do again I'd get 2-10000 ones. The bracket has a better more solid design and the install is easier. Plus it also has more features and doesn't cost much more. We did not screw anything into the sills or trim because the bracket feet on the exterior of the house and the window coming dow between, holds it all firmly in place. Saying that I am only on one floor! So if it fell out it would land on the grass. Regardless you'd be hard pressed to get this thing to move. The instructions in the 8000BTU version are not as clear. I watched a youtube video that was helpful however. Having done it once certainly made the 2nd easier. The remote functions a bit oddly. The app for using remotely works well. I would definitely recommend. I have never liked AC and only in the last few years used in one then a 2nd and now a 3rd room. I have a 1 yr old Frigidaire unit and the sound is shockingly loud comparatively.

We are very happy with it (8000 BTU). But 4, not 5 stars, for a couple of less than major issues; so not perfect but so much better than normal ACs Pros: *wow, quiet indeed, even on high. That difference alone is worth the purchase even if you have an operating AC, as do (did) we. Can now watch tv & have non-shouted conversations * Did not think the extra window space and light would make much difference. It does!! After many years of installing our living/dining area AC, the diff is so stark I still - after a month of operation - stop and admire the extra light. * too soon to know if there are savings on electricity. * like and use the dehumidifier (dry) option; sometimes that is all that is needed in the new weather patterns Cons: * installation is nowhere near he horror stories I was told. It's logical and relatively easy. However (isn't there always): you may have to make adjustments to the support arms and your own ad-hocism depending on the weirdness factors in your interior and exterior window sills. Many old apts in New York have large stone ledges that extend well beyond the exterior wall, which means the support arms cannot or barely touch the exterior walls. I added a small board (1 x 2) and glued it (to appease the landlord) on the exterior wall under the support arms so the tips rest against it. Maybe a slight lengthening of those arms would be useful. Secondly, many landlords have installed the easy-in aluminum-framed screens/storm windows. That creates a difference in height between the window lip and the aluminum frame edge across a gap of about 4 to 5 inches. I simply cut a piece of 2x4 and dropped it in tomato the height uniform, but then could not use the instructions for "lip windows" becsuse now the height was higher than the "lip"; more along the lines of the "flat window" sill. I did omit the "flat sill adaptor". Sounds confusing but just take your time and think it through. Instructions ("Quick Guide) are great. Ironically it is now a safer installation than our previous balancing the old AC on the exterior aluminum frame and keeping a downward angle (to drain) by counting on a screw in the window frame to hold it! * Aware of the water drain problem, we bought an updated model, meaning it comes with a small level and several new style drain plugs. Problem: the new plugs do not fit exactly. I even used a rubber-headed mallet to force it into replacement for the old one. Went in partially, but in a way, I'm glad. Lookig at the "new" drain plugs I don't trust their design to drip water out. So the lip of the new plug that does not exactly fit now provides a better, reliable drain area as it allows water to exit at the non-fitting edge.. Remember, the plug is meant not only to release water to avoid mold but to stop dirt, critters etc. from ending up inside. It's larger than need be; take it from someone who has drilled drain holes through the metal frames in the back of two other poorly designed AC drains and left them open or partially open with only positive results. (Had to spend $10 to buy a drill bit for metal). I'll monitor the modified installation of the "new" plugs and will not hesitate to drill a hole through the rubber plug if needed. * Thirdly, we would like a bit stronger fan to force more air more quickly BUT Not at the expense of the quiet. All this makes it sound like it's complicated beyond the normal person who uses their eyes and thinks. I'm not a mechanic and definitely not inclined, but I do own a cheap drill , hammer, wrench, saw. That's all you need for most things and have learned to take my time. Even so, it was installed in a couple hours. And we are so thrilled with it we'd have gladly hired someone to install it if needed

I am very satisfied with this Midea air conditioner! It runs very quietly—with barely any audible sound—so my sleep is never disturbed at night. It cools quickly, maintains a stable temperature. I love this air conditioner. The U shape is a game-changing innovation. I will never go back. I don't care about opening the window - or even looking out it - I need an air conditioner in this room because it gets brutal sun all afternoon. I have light blocking shades and blackout curtains. With old window a/c's, I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to position my curtains and shade just so to continue to block the sun but also wrap around the unit. I'd be over there with binder clips and tape and pins and pull-backs... finally make it work and then next day it's all falling in front of the unit again and needing rearranged. With this u-shaped unit, I can just put the blinds and curtain behind the unit on the inside. No drama. Just put them right where they go anyway. This may seem like a small thing to many, but it is a huge asset to me. I just installed it... not too bad because my window has a lip so I think that makes it easier. I don't love that the bracket sticks out way further than the ac itself on the outside part because it is over part of our deck and I worry a bit that someone may run into it, but that is minor. It is cooling nicely. It is quiet as others have mentioned. I've only had it on about and hour... so far so good. I love that only a few inches of window will be vulnerable to the cold in the winter. I spent another huge amount of time trying to seal my old one better in the winter. Taking it out just seemed enormous after all the stuffing in of foam and installing of real side panels, but my room was really cold in the winter even though I got insulated covers for inside and out and sealed it well. I think this one will be much easier to seal effectively because the window is only open a few inches. It was also reasonably priced. I frankly expected to have to pay more for the new style. So, unless something awful and unexpected happens, this is just 5 stars all around!
