used for practice, working fine.
We bought this violin for our 8 year old to take lessons. When we brought it into the class the teacher scoffed. Said it p probably wouldn't tune, probably wouldn't play and was absolutely a waste of money. She decided to "try" to tune it, it tuned right up. She tried to play it and it sounded fine. This violin came with everything my daughter needed to get stated and she is now taking lessons and doing well. Maybe some of the bad reviews were from those who didn't try to tune or play the violin. We are a month in. If we had rented an instrument it would've cost us 20 dollars a month. This violin pays for itself in 4 months.

Nice complete violin for beginers
We bought this as a gift for our 10 year old nephew who started playing at school. I was a little hesitant based on the low price. But when he got it he was very pleased. We couldn't figure out how to use the tuner but he had his music teacher tune it for him and she told him it was a very nice beginner instrument. He has had it for 6 months now and plays it almost every day in school and practices at home. It is still in near new condition. He has given us several home "performances" and it sounds very good. It comes with everything that is needed to get a great start. If he continues with it and needs a larger size I would definitely buy another larger one.

DONT BUY!!
I had to buy this violin 4 TIMES. Each time it came different. Once a whole entire different color, with obviously like every cheap violin off Amazon, and slipping pegs that are worse than every new violin. (Violins that you get start off with slipping pegs, obviously, but this one was outrageous!) one of the times it had a string broken off, snapped, couldnโt even be placed back on, 3rd time it had an awful bridge that was straightโฆ not even how a violin bridge is meant to be placed. 4th time, the slipping pegs were so bad, that all my strings would fall flat from me plucking, or even using my bow on the strings. I had to buy a new violin from a different brand, obviously. When i got this violin the 2nd time, the shoulder rests were different sizes.. what? One was bigger than the other. The sound quality is awful! Itโs so squeaky even on the g/d string! The E string frays so quick, when I got it the first time, the E string frayed within 24 hours. I mean, youโre buying a violin for $80. I wouldnโt be surprised if buying a used violin from Facebook marketplace would be better than this one. Each time I got this violin, it was used, or at least looked like it was. The performance is awful! My G, D, and A snapped. D and A on the same day, after my G snapped. This is just disappointingโฆ The weight of the case is so light, that whenever it drops (accidentally, obviously) on the ground because it slipped, my violin would get chipped each time. The so called โwoodโ on the violin looks and feels like plasticโฆ The rosin it comes with is awful, and barely has the ability to grip the bow well enough. The bow is awful as well. There is so little hair on the bow that when a piece fell off, the scratchiness would get worse. The tuner is awful too. It barely works as well. The extra strings are terrible, as all the extra strings came frayed every single time I got them. The value of this violin is awful, if youโd be able, it would be better to make an investment to a more expensive brand. Thereโs really no pros to this violin, everything is just cons at this point. This violin is awful, donโt buy it unless you like being disappointed esch time you play.

Perfect for the price
Violin arrived quickly and without damage. Bought this as a cheap spare for my daughter to practice on while her higher quality violin stays at school for rehearsal and performance. I was not expecting an impressive violin, just one that would do the job. It is definitely that and more. It comes with everything needed to get going out of the box - plus extra strings! Hard to beat for $85. It was woefully out of tune on arrival - as expected- but with the tuner, a 4 minute video and 15minutes of patience I had it perfectly tuned and in playing order. Sound is decent. Again for the price, a great first option. It will make a great practice instrument and saves the wear and tear on her more expensive violin being schlepped back and forth on the bus.

Very inexpensive but still playable if it's your first and you're just learning
I gave this 4 stars because you CAN learn to play on it. It's not difficult to play on as the bridge I got was the proper height. The strings that come on it are really awful and the sound is much improved by replacing them. I believe the tailpiece is plastic but then again, it was 63 dollars! Actually as it has a case, bow, rosin, even a shoulder rest it still has value if you're on a tight budget but really want to learn. It is at least made of wood (though what kind I couldn't tell you, but not spruce and maple). Are there much better ones? Of course. But not everyone can afford to spend hundreds more on a first violin. If you want to learn the basics just replace the horrible strings and learn while you save for a better one.

Most impressed
Just to start I'm 59 years old I chose to learn how to play the violin about 3 months ago until today I've never touched a violin. I opened package with reservations due to some of the reviews I read. Yes it was out of tune it took about 10 minutes to tune it,there was no damage and I was play notes as soon as rosined the bow. Great buy ,excellent choice for practice or even play in public

It works I guess
My son rented a SUPER nice violin for a few months but he really preferred to "dabble" than keep taking lessons, so I didn't want to pay $800 to buy it or keep paying to rent - so I was like I'll just buy a cheap one online. He'd liked the sound from paititi best based on some youtube reviews of the more popular cheap violins on amazon, and with the very low price, this seemed like a good choice. WElp... First off the rented one, everything was done for us, it was tuned and Never came out of tune in all the months we used it. This one, as I read of course, isn't even close to tuned, but it's very confusing trying to tune it - the tiniest adjustment on those tuner things, like 1mm shift, and the string jumps several notes! So getting the tuning right is tricky, plus the tuners loosen! All of a sudden they unwind 100% and you have a super slack string. Gonna have to find a way to tighten those tuning pegs so they don't just randomly unwind. Another error I have to fix, is the thing that holds the strings, is cut wrong - I'm gonna have to recut it, else you can't play the 3rd string without hitting the 2 adjacent strings simultaneously. Hopefully I can shave it down just to the correct curvature! The bow on the rented one was well balanced and good quality as well... this one always feels "loose" no matter how much you tighten it, and is very wide, and already some hairs broke. I did get it rosin'd enough to play however and it "works." The case seems solid, nice for carrying, compartment for tuner/rosin.. but the place where the bow hangs? The bow hairs catch in that and it rips the hairs out. Gotta be Really careful taking the bow out. The actualy violin feels kinda light/cheap compared to our rented one. The sound isn't as rich and resonant either. But it "works." Or it will once I fix the wood thing that raises the strings. Might make a few more adjustments to it as well. For the price, and once you can get it all set up properly, it's certainly worth it, for a kid or someone just dabbling. Might rate up to a 4 if I can get it working better :D

Higher quality than expected for the price!
Wow, I ended up being more impressed by this than other 1/8 sized kid's violins I've seen recently. I was expecting a below standard violin after reading some of the reviews here. But I guess some of the reviewers didn't know much about violins which is understandable when in the market for a starter violin. As with any new violin you'll have to properly tune it as they'll ship it with strings loose. An electric tuner is included. You can also check YouTube on how to properly tune a violin. You'll also have to properly rosin the bow otherwise it won't make a sound. After doing all that I was impressed and glad I saved the money and got this instead of a higher priced violin my kid is going to outgrow soon anyways. It's also cheaper than a rental and worrying about them charging for damages and such upon return. I posted a video of how this violin sounds. Hopefully that's more helpful than reviews from people who don't know anything about violins.
