The only review written by a 46-year-old woman in the Midwest
Or so I presume. This book has the best history I've seen on Pacific Ready Cut Homes and that's why I purchased it. I'm the author of "California's Kit Homes" and had a devil of a time finding information on this Los Angeles-based company.I bought "The Encyclopedia of Surfing" and was pleasantly surprised to find information about the company that brought us the Swastika Surfboard. Yes, they made wonderful (and heavy!)surfboards, but did you know they also made and sold 40,000 kit homes before they got into surfboards? (BTW, one Pacific Ready-Cut house had 30,000 pieces of house and a 75-page instruction book - and you thought putting together a VCR stand was tough.)I also browsed other parts of the book and found it to be an informative and well-researched book.Roseauthor, California's Kit Homes

One of the best books on the sport of surfing!
One of the best books published on the sport of surfing. Highly informative and the authors obviously know their craft. Every aspect of the sport is listed here, in an easy to follow manner. Whether you're a die-hard fan of surf culture and history, or just a casual admirer, you'll thoroughly enjoy this well-written encyclopedia. Every piece of information you could ever imagine is documented in this book. It's one of my favorite books on the sport and is well-displayed on my book shelf ready for opening at any given time.

Its entries never disappointed me, and they ranged from Gidget to Tavarua
While writing a WSJ review of the superb new surfing memoir "Barbarian Days" by Wm Finnegan, I had occasion to check facts using the Encycopedia of Surfing quite often. Its entries never disappointed me, and they ranged from Gidget to Tavarua. Many reference books are dead on the page. This one is as lively as it is informative.

the big book of surfing
I love having this book around to pick up and read in bits and pieces. This is definitely a coffee table book, it is big and heavy. This is a great book for someone who loves surfing.

More colors pictures
I liked this book has very varied themes related to surf, but could have more pictures and better quality, maybe in colors.

The Encyclopedia of Surfing by Matt Warshaw
Another fine book that brings back the old memories my surfing days along the West coast of California in the 60's. If you're an old surfer or a new young surfer, you will really enjoy this great book!!!!
