Better Than Felt; Not a Perfect Solution
At time of purchase (6/11/12), there were 3 reviews, all 5*. On date I installed it, a 2* review was posted saying the Nomex gasket failed at 700+ deg. F. I had an installation issue surface, and contacted High-Que to seek their input. This Company offers excellent customer service. Technical support fully resolved the technical issue to my complete satisfaction. We also spoke about the review saying the gasket fails at 700+ deg. F. First, I was advised they had a few gaskets fail at extreme high heats . . . high 700's to 1,000+ deg. F. In addition, there may be other contributing factors such as someone propping open the BGE top with something metal (like tongs) which transfers direct high heat to the gasket, resting an extremely hot pan/pot on the gasket, or long periods of time at extreme high heat as the person got distracted by something such as drinking a few beers to many. Importantly, they're not aware of any premature failures at temperatures of 650 deg. F or below. I came away with a view that this gasket is considerably more heat resistant and durable than the factory felt gasket but not fail proof under certain conditions. If you're thinking of installing this gasket so you can grill at 750+ deg. F temps for 15 minute cooks or more, and you're expecting this to be a long-term gasket solution, you're probably going to be disappointed. Concerning the installation of this gasket. It is simple to install but a messy, time consuming job. Most of the time is spent cleaning the old felt remnants and adhesive from both rims. The video shows a dirty rim being scraped and then it morphs to a very clean surface just before acetone is applied (I don't think the rim got that clean using a scraper). I didn't think the acetone removed the old adhesive very well. I tried a little 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (#08984) on a scrap piece, and it seemed far easier to remove the old adhesive as compared to using acetone. However, I decided to follow directions since unsure if the 3M product might leave an invisible residue that might interfere with the adhesive of the new gasket (suspect it would not especially if wiped down afterward with acetone). One tip not made clear in the directions or video is to either have someone tilt the top or have something to prop open the top to prevent it from slamming shut when starting to apply the gasket at the rear Spring Assisted Band. If not done, the tiny space at the rear mechanism makes it difficult to slide in the gasket (or run risk of it getting bound up or stuck incorrectly). Also having a pencil handy when over laying the gasket where the seams meet allows a pencil mark to be made on each side of the gasket creating an imaginary line for using sharp scissors to make the angle cut so the seams perfectly align with one another.

Great Gasket But Make Sure to Clean Old One Off Completely
Bought the product after the original gasket became flattened and hard. I noticed I couldn't keep my smoking temps down below 300 as I no longer had a good seal. I decided to try this product because I was disappointed the original gasket did not last very long - about a year and a half. Removing the old gasket was labor intensive and time consuming. After using razor blades and paint scrapers to get most of the old gasket off I was left with the adhesive residue which turned out to be the most difficult part to remove. After trying many different methods I ended up using very coarse sand paper to clean off the rest of the gasket residue. Had I known to use the sand paper I would have reduced the removal time of the old gasket from about 2.5 hours by about an hour. Using the sand paper I was able to get my egg perfectly clean with no discoloring left on the ceramics. I believe this is essential getting a new gasket to adhere properly and last a long time. A final wipe with acetone completed the job and the new gasket was very easy to apply with the adhesive backing following the instructions. 1 year later the gasket works perfectly after heavy use and is holding up much better than the original. I've had my egg up to 625 degrees and no problems yet. An advantage I discoverd over the original gasket is when liguids are dripped or spilled on the new gasket it does not seem to absorb them. I think this helps with longevity as I noticed spilled liguids on the original gasket would cause it to harden and shrink and it would not conform to the other side of the gasket in those areas. This gasket does not do that and remains soft and conforms to create a good air tight seal. After spending a couple of hours cleaning off the old gasket I want make sure I use the best replacement gasket and spend the least amount of time repeating that task. This is a great product and worth the extra cost.

Great Gasket
I bought this gasket after I burned my second factory Primo gasket making a pizza on my Kamado grill. This product was as described and was shipped quickly. The quality of the gasket seems to be there and installation was a breeze. This gasket has the adhesive already on the back with a peel-away strip that you remove when you are ready to place the gasket. I had no trouble installing the gasket. So far it has performed well, I have yet to do a high temp pizza bake though, and will update my review with the results when I do. A few notes: 1) Be sure to clean the rim of your Primo well before installation. This is important to ensure that this gasket has a good bond to the grill. The best way to do this is to get a scraper and scrape your old gasket off. Then I used some fine sandpaper to get any other grit/fiber off of the rim. Lastly, use some acetone and a cloth to remove any residual adhesive from the last gasket off of the grill and let the rim dry. 2) This gasket does NOT need to be 'pre-shrunk' in the dryer. If you attempt to do this you will most likely ruin the adhesive on the back and probably your dryer as well. This is not like other gaskets that have a separate adhesive and can be pre-shrunk prior to installation. I will attempt to update this review as I continue to grill to comment on the durability and 'high heat resistance' of this gasket. UPDATE 7/27/13 - This gasket is still running strong. I have done many low and slow as well as high heat cooks and the gasket still adheres well and has not burnt up like the factory gasket did. More than likely the biggest reason people have trouble with the gasket adhering is because they did not clean the grill correctly. Be sure to use the scraper/sandpaper/ and acetone. I would still give this gasket 5 stars.

Easy to install and the seal is wonderful.
Second time ordering a set of these gaskets. I bought one earlier in the year to replace the gasket on my Primo and bought this one to refurb a BGE that is now over 20 years old. These gaskets are fantastic and I will buy them again if I have another need for one.

Replace the gasket on a Big Green Egg
Our gasket was the original wool felt and it was old, matted down and in any case, the OEM gasket is NOT suited to high temperature grilling (Pittsburgh style steak, or pizza, or cleaning the grill inside at 650-700F.) At the price of these ceramic grills, it astounds me they don't put on a better gasket from the get-go. So before I embarked on revitalizing my old Egg, I scraped off the wool gasket and removed the adhesive residue. (I tried both isopropyl alcohol and then acetone 100%. Acetone was more effective.) After scraping off the sticky stuff with a putty knife and then rubbing with a microfiber cloth soaked in solvent, I attached this new gasket by first cutting the length in half and then peeling back the backing while sticking it down, starting at the back. When doing the top, start offset, that is, don't line up the starts top and bottom but offset the top a couple of inches. I being female was able to do this pretty well and didn't even need to have someone cheering me on by watching and shuffling their feet as I stuck down the new gasket. Then you let the adhesive cure over night or 24 hours; it will be able to be moved when you apply the gasket but 12 hours later, it will be well stuck (close the lid to put weight on it) and after 24 it's pretty well glued down. I notice that even though the manufacturer talks about this being a blend of Nomex and Kevlar, two of Dupont's specialized heat resistant materials, it doesn't exactly give a temperature range for its operation. So I assume I can run it at 700 degrees---but for how long until the adhesive fails? The original Big Green Egg gasket will not run at 650-700 so for doing high heat grills and cleaning, you need to replace the gasket and I assume this one has a lifespan as well; they give a 2 year warranty but my guess is continually running it at high heat cooks will reduce the life of this gasket. However, the cost is reasonable and the job isn't all that bad to replace it.

High quality gasket that holds up to high temps
I've been a Big Green Egg owner for over 13 years and have purchased this gasket several times. It's a quality gasket that is easy to install and holds up well to high temperatures.

Buy with confidence. These people stand behind their product and this gasket works well if you give it a mellow cook at first.
OK, I have not been compensated for my use of this product nor for this review. I paid full price for the product, and I love it. Love it. Now, the end of the story is that I love it, but initially, I hated it. One star. But now I love the product and HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. You need to follow a few tips to make sure that it works well. 1) check your gasket, as mine was totally shot a long time before I replaced it. I only found out after replacing it and torching a bunch of chicken wings. A well-functioning gasket will get you oven cooking a lot more efficiently. 2) follow the installation instructions CAREFULLY. I needed to take the top off of my egg in order to really clean the back rim by the hinge. I used a scrubber wheel on a drill (which is what they recommend) and allowed the mineral spirits to dry for a solid hour in the sun. 3) DO NOT GO HOT ON YOUR FIRST COOK. I came out of the gate like a madman and did pizzas and foccacia. The kids made personal pizzas and little bits of toppings fell on the bottom ring and melted into it. It all worked fine during the cook, but when I went out later to check the rig, the two gaskets stuck together and I ripped them off. Total failure. I was disappointed. Nowhere in the literature did it recommend doing a mellow cook after the instal, so I contacted the company to complain. These people stand behind their product. They responded the same day with an apology, an offer to refund my money, or replace the gasket for free. I felt like they deserved another chance, so I asked for another gasket. It arrived within a couple of days. This time I followed the directions again, really carefully, and did a mellow cook, no hotter than 375 F. I cooled it to about 200 F for a few hours, and then shut it down. My next cook was pizzas again. Gasket stuck like a champion. The seal is excellent and it has a nice soft feel to the close of the lid. Love it. I'm not sure if this is recommended, but I let a little ash fall on the gasket to act like a protective dust in case any more cheese falls on it. That worked really well, when drips and drops fell on the rim, they dusted off without a mark. Not much ash, mind you. just enough to put a micro thin film around it. Buy with confidence. If something goes wrong, this company will make it right.

Relatively painless to install, worked great.
After finding some acetone like the instructions said i removed my almost 8 year old burnt beyond recognition factory gasket and put this on. Other than time to make sure the acetone and everything I could get was off, it was a painless install. I got the gasket on rather easily with some patience and methodical application. With the large BGE I would recommend getting a helper for flipping the top over and placing it into the grill to put the gasket on the top half, as it's awkward and heavy and dropping is a bad idea especially if you drop it into the lower part. That's not the fault of the gasket, just my $0.02 to anyone looking at replacing a gasket who isn't mechanically inclined like I am. Fortunately my father was visiting and we got it on with no issues. I've had it on for several months now, it is still as white as it was when I got it with little carbon deposits, no more smoke around the seal is coming out like it did on my old one. I do cook at high temps for steaks so making it molten (700+) to do the initial sear is a common thing with my grill and it held up fine.

Excellent easy to install product.
Recently installed on a newer Primo 300 in about 30 minutes. (I had the dome off to adjust the band/hinge bolts which had not been installed correctly at the factory). The original base to dome protection gasket peeled off within a minute and it took another couple of minutes to wipe the surfaces clean with acetone. Once dry, it took less than 5 minutes to do the base and another 5 minutes to do the dome. Follow the instructions and do not allow stretching or overhang into the grill. This is the second time I've used High-Que peel and stick gaskets. My Medium Big Green Egg has a nomex that is four years old and still works just fine, including a pizza cook at least every couple of weeks. have had no issues with the self adhesive feature at all. There are many options out there, including some gaskets that are not food grade and require the use of RTV type gasket material used as an adhesive. This product (if the original is any indicator) will last for a few years making the cost < $8 a year, very reasonable.

Great gasket for my BGE and stands up to cooking and weather extremes.
I bought this to replace my 6 year old gasket on my large Big Green Egg. I was going to use the BGE replacement but I felt the price was unjustified. While this gasket is pricey as well it is half what the OE one is. It works well. I found the adhesive was quite sticky and it works well. The gasket is two years old now and it is still in great shape. The Egg stays outside thorough -35c to +30c weather. It is still sticking and seals great.
