A master of speed, breathability and grip; this freakishly good trail shoe lets your feet perform while the shoe provides. The TRAIL FREAK has a lightweight natural fit, duo 3M mesh and laminated structured that gives a comfortable and secure ‘second skin’ fit. The Trail Freak has a Dri-lex lining with lycra collar: Lightweight, performance lining for moisture wicking and superior comfort. The ultra-thin, off road sole has the perfect balance of grip and sensory experience. Specifically made for the great outdoors, 4.5mm lugs give an unprecedented amount of traction, but still lets your feet move naturally, as nature intended. The TRAIL FREAK is a durable and lightweight trail shoe suited for the toughest mud sections, slipperiest descents, and filthiest climbs.

Another great minimal shoe
I've been looking for minimal shoes to alternate with my Merrell Bare Access and Lems Nine2Five and the blue/green Vivo barefoot Trail Freaks are perfect. All three are size 10 (43) and I find the fits true to size. The Trail Freaks are a bit narrower, but after a few days of wear, I have adequate room in the toe box for my wide feet. I wear them all day and walk 4-5 miles on pavement and I don't get sore feet. I like the simple lacing, the subdued style, and the rugged-yet-flexible sole. They are great for biking and grip pedals well. The sole is much different than the flat thin sole of other Vivobarefoot shoes, like the Ra, but they still wear like slippers and it's easy to not notice you are wearing them.Update: I also ordered the grey/red winter proof version in size 43 (10 US) and they were too tight. They feel a half size smaller than the blue/green in size 43.

Very comfortable but the sole came unglued in only about 5 months. The shoe performed well but the sole was VERY slippery when wet.

ultra light back packing shoes for minimalists
Alright, disclaimer: these are minimalist shoes...if you have not trained your body to wear minimalist shoes, this review is not for you.I have had these shoes since March and have been wearing them running and around work with no problems...did notice the plastic material was spider webbing at the crease, but no big deal. They are comfortable as vivo shoes are, with zero arch support (yay!). Its also nice that they are waterproof. They are just like the Neo trails as far as feel goes, except MUCH warmer.Really wanted to write something about these shoes after deciding to wear them on a backpacking trip. We walked 30 miles with 30 lb. packs (in the rain the second day)...my legs and back were shot, but my feet stayed warm and dry all weekend! These shoes were great on the trail and thru the rain, with no foot fatigue or killer arch support poking thru the whole time. I almost bought some Salomons just for packing, but I am glad I didnt. That being said, anybody that has had a set of these or the Neo trail shoes knows the weakness of this shoe is the lugs. They end up breaking off and wearing down quickly. Already seeing it happen on these. But until then, they are my go-to 3 season shoe for biking, golfing, walking to work....and now back packing. They are too warm for summer, though.

Fantastic Freaks!
The idea is to not have any support, and I love them! I kind of beat them up, I was wearing them while belaying, and my climber froze, and I had rescue them, so the luggs on the ball of the foot where scrapped off because of the rock, I think this is because they are not ment for firm ground, I think they are more for muddy and soft trails. I have put them through the ringer, I wore them to work for a couple of weeks, I work as a laborer for a seed company and I didn't have any problem with them, I do worry about wearing them on hard ground though, I dont want to wear the luggs off. I have worn them to run in, I really like them in the snow. If I put some warm socks on, they are awesome to grab the snow and I dont feel like I am going to slip and slide everywhere.Over all I really like them to hike and run in, as well as every day, but I am partial to Vivobarefoot. I love the fact that I can still feel everything and still have protection from the elements!

Barefoot enthusiast surprisingly disappointed
Possibly the worst shoe I have ever bought. That is not a hyperbole. Take a look at the photos. In less than 5 miles, I repeat, less than 5 miles, these shoes were destroyed. Literally falling apart. This was not even a trail run. This was a hike on a very laid back trail. The lugs were tearing and ripping off. Take a look at the pics. One of the red lugs actually ripped off. 1/4 of all the lugs had torn, in less than 5 miles.Alright, so there is zero durability in these shoes. I mean, if you can't even get a sole right, I don't expect you to get the rest of the shoe right, and they didn't. The shoe narrows and is not as wide as I had hoped for. I had to wear a size .5 larger than normal, to allow my small toes room. This is because the shoe narrows to a point, as opposed to slowly tapering towards the big toes. Merrell has this down, Vivo does not. The shoes were slopply, lacked grip and durability. I mean, I just can't say enough bad things about this shoes. The lacing system is just dumb. Just put normal laces on your shoe. They don't stay tight, and they don't allow you to customize the fit, as much as normal laces.Trail Condition: RockyUser weight: 175CONS:-Zero durability - lugs tore off and separated in less than 5 miles of walking - side of shoe tore-Fit is all wrong - front of shoe comes to a sharp point which means you have to size up to fit your small toes in. Shoe is narrow in comparison to many other barefoot brands.-Lack of grip - you would think it would be superb and that is why the sole is so mushy, but no, the sole is mushy and not grippy-Ugly as can be-Too much cush, and still does not protect from rocksI'm done, I'm trying to think of the best way to describe how awful this shoe is. Just don't buy it. Honestly, I'll never buy another vivo and will steer others away. For reference, my favorite barefoot trail shoe to date, is the Merrell Trail Glove VERSION 1.

Good Concept, Cheap Fabric Material...
Pros: Great trail shoe for people with wide feet. Felt great after shoes were laced with actual shoelaces. Lugs are great for wet/muddy trails. Soles/lugs show no wear/tear.Cons: Fabric sides of shoes blown out (separated from soles) after only 100 miles on trails. "Secure" lacing system does not hold after 15 min. of running; had to use actual shoelaces to secure feet.Overall: Will reluctantly buy again until I find a better constructed shoe. Wish fabrics were made with higher quality materials that lasted. I can live with using actual shoelaces instead of the zip lace system. Shoes rendered useless because cheap fabric material separates from the sole is another story. Would have given one star, but I like the concept of the shoe.

love the feel
A very light and comfortable shoe, my feet felt home from the moment I slipped them on.Beware of waring barefoot shoes, take your time to let your feet adept. All sorts of little muscles you didn't even know existed will start working and this will cause some soreness for the first weeks. Don't let this discourage you, just wear them during day and let those muscles develop over time, and take it easy! =)

Sehr guter Schuh,
Sehr guter Schuh. Leicht, sieht ordentlich aus und hat einen guten Schnellverschluss. Allerdings würde ich empfehlen ihn eine Nummer größer zu bestellen. Fällt doch sehr knapp aus. Und er ist wasserdicht.

Too narrow forefoot for true vivobarefoot fans
I own 3 pairs of vivobarefoot shoes, one for general workouts, one casual and one boot style. All of which are a great fit with enough width around the toes allowing them to splay on impact (as if running barefoot). I wanted some with more grip for an upcoming Tough Mudder. These however are much narrower to the previous models, similar to every other brand on the market. This may suit those new to this barefoot shoes but I feel vivobarefoot have regressed with this style

Barefoot trail sensation
Awesome trail shoe and being a barefoot runner these are on point, i usually rock the vibram fivefingers but nice to have a different shoe to mix it up on the trails and mountains

Great wide fit in the toebox
shame there are no half sizes as they are fairly generous but I think the next size down would be too small. Great wide fit in the toebox. I wasn't keen on the laces so I swapped for normal ones. Not as many eyelets as in a standard trainer and an extra one on each side would've help improve fit on heel. Otherwise great quality trainers.
