Gallery Artists' Soft Oil Pastels Professional, 48 Assorted Colors, Vibrant and Blendable

These are fantastic, especially for their price point. Mungyo Gallery Oil Pastels are creamy, dreamy, and full of color. I am impressed with how easily they lay down on the surface of various paper qualities and how easy they are to blend. I wish they sold individual colors so you could restock à la carte.

This is the first time I’ve used this brand, I’ve made several pieces with it. They’re a medium soft texture, good for textured and smooth surfaces, and the color selection was perfect for my style. Great blending experience, they layered amazing. I’d definitely buy again.

First of all I'll say I'm happy with these pastels. I am not tremendously experienced in oil pastels but I've been experimenting recently with a lot of old craft items including a big mixed media set. I quite enjoyed the oil pastels but wanted to try something a little better without too big of an investment. These fit the bill and give me the oil pastel experience I've been lead to believe I should expect. Starting with the physical aspects, the packaging seems robust enough though the foam holding them down is a little thin. I haven't felt especially compelled to put them in a nicer box which says that (for me) they are acceptable. Despite the thin foam they came to me intact. I have previously only draw with some very cheap oil pastels (which I'll compare later) but I did try several brands that a store had in open stock. I found these to be comparably soft to the Sennelier but the feel a little more "greasy" when being applied vs the Sennelier which I'd describe as "creamy". They come in a plain cylinder form without the Sennelier bullet points (which suits me fine) but that's an obvious difference. I found that they didn't crumble much (the Cray-pas specialist crumbled more). Overall I'd say they stand up well to the competition. Next I'd like to talk about painting and blendability. I tried these out on watercolour paper, mixed media paper and pastel paper. On all 3 the softness allows them to apply readily in fairly thick layers. They smooth on the page easily with a finger, cloth or stump. They can be layered over one another but attempting to layer then blend can be tricky: it seems better to simply draw the colours in from their respective sides getting gradually thinner toward one another then smooth out perpendicular to the gradient. They worked nicely for sgraffito and all general oil pastel techniques. The colours are definitely bold but there are a few areas where I felt they lacked, for example I couldn't find a really strong primary red. Having said that I was not disappointed and doubt this will hold me back. As for value I'd like to compare to the cheap set I tried out before. They were a very cheap set of 36 from a retail store. A little measurement tells me that these are about 2x the volume (i.e. provide 2x the materlal). Accounting for that these are 2x the price per volume (compared to an absolute bottom of the line set) and about 1/4 the price of Senellier. Compared to these the cheap set I had previously feel terrible, waxy and crumbly in application with weak colours and hard to blend: these are definitely much better value. Compared to the Sennelier these are definitely not quite as pigmented or smooth or shaped as elegantly but to a beginner I doubt the difference would be that noticeable: for a beginner/student these are probably better value. Overall I'm very happy with the way these work. I definitely no longer feel I'm being limited by the media so I can work on improving my skills. If you are looking for an introduction to oil pastels I would say you won't go too far wrong with this set.

I purchased a set on a whim because it is so inexpensive. I love them. They are creamy, affordable, and the colors are fabulous. I am over 70 with arthritic hands and I can blend them with ease. They do seem to cure overnight and dry out a bit. . After one day, I ordered the 72 piece set. That’s how much I like them. This set is fine for a beginner. They give the feel of working in pastels or oils with minimal cleanup, no toxicity or odors.. Set up requires opening the box and getting a damp paper towel and some Q tips. Blick’s website rates them as nontoxic. Light fastness is poor. You can fix this by framing with UV protective glass, should you produce a masterpiece. You will run out of white quickly. Order this from Jerry’s Artarama. Or just get a different brand. If you are a beginner you will enjoy using 2 or 3 colors in one spot and possibly blending. . Certainly worth $20. Far more expensive at Jerry’s. I’m assuming this has to do with tariffs, so grab these.

This is my first time trying these out so it's completely based on my unboxing and first impressions. For a beginner, I'd like them to be a little more creamy and less sticky or waxy, but again, I'm a mixed media artist and don't know ANYTHING about oil pastels so take it as an observation. I bought them for a workshop I'm taking and didn't want to spend too much but also wanted a variety of colors and a brand I could trust. A few respected artists mentioned these so I thought I'd give it a shot. They make a good budget soft pastel (I would love to try their premium hand-rolled ones). I love the beautiful color variety in this pack. The earth tones are so rich and the bright colors are saturated and lush! They're also quite pigmented. No strong odors which is a HUGE thing for me as I'm extremely sensitive and why I've avoided them until now. The packing and presentation makes for a lovely gift.

I work mostly watercolor and wanted to try a few new mediums, so the Mungyo set sounded like a good idea. Glad I gave them a go, because these are beautiful pastels for a really good price. The variety of colors is amazing with bright and muted tones. Great color payoff and easy to smudge. Wish the set came with an extra white, but I think you can get them separately when needed. Overall a good choice to start with pastel art.

Absolutely amazing. I have been wanting to work with oil pastels more and I had a pack before this one which was so hard to work with and extremely dry, which made me hesitant to buy this one at first but I am GLAD I did because this came out to be amazing. First it’s really smooth to work with, and it feels like it’s working WITH you rather than against you. Second, it’s really easy to blend with each other not really needing your finger or a tissue which I think is a big deal! Third the color quality is great with a large variety of colors. It is beginner friendly and just great even if you are not a beginner. It’s easy to use and work with to get the hang of it! So if you have been wanting to use oil pastels or even want to try a new brand, THIS IS IT!!!!!

I really love these pastels. The price and variation of colors is excellent. I recommend them. They blend well.

Bon je n’ai testé que deux petites réalisations sur du papier aquarelle basique pour moment mais vraiment j’aime beaucoup. Les couleurs son superbe et se mélange bien. On peut sûrement faire plus de couches sur du papier pan pastel mais c’est déjà sympa comme ça.

Heel fijne pastel. laat zich uitstekend verwerken. Goede kleurvariatie en niet te zacht. Zeker een aanrader, ook vanwege de prijs!

Ottimo pastello a olio. Si sfuma facilmente, si possono sovrapporre i colori senza cambiamento del colore in quanto basta poca pressione per sfumarli. La varietà di colori nella confezione non mi soddisfa a pieno ma forse perché sono solo 48. Anche il bianco risalta anche se meno dei Senelier. Allego piccolo schizzo. Sono princiante ☺️

Bueno ya llevo tiempo con ellos y solo puedo decir que SON HERMOSOS, valen la pena 100% se difuminar muy bien y la pigmentación 10/10 la mezcla de colores es bellísima.. recomiendo además comprar unas brochas de esculpir que son de punta de goma para difuminar porque te hará la vida 200% más fácil
