This is a great product. It is a clipboard on top with lockable storage inside. Basically a portable desk. The outside is covered with a smooth black exterior that has a subtle faux leather texture but is basically smooth and makes a good writing surface. The sides are not flimsy or bending. Those who call this product cheap and flimsy are wrong. This is a good, rugged field box and gives a feeling of good quality. As others have mentioned, the clip on the clipboard top is strong and will hold up to about 1/3rd inch of papers securely. The aluminum side rails and steel corners make for long lasting use, The corners, hinges, lock, clip, wall hanger and even nameplate are all riveted for secure holding. The box even has 4 small metal feet on the hinge side so it can stand like a briefcase The lock functions just like a briefcase lock and the combination can be changed to whatever you want and instructions for doing such are included. Two D rings on the sides allow for carrying with a strap, but being a clipboard primarily, I do not use it that way. Inside is ample room for storing documents, forms, writing pads, cell phone, flashlight, wallet, eyeglasses, calculator, maps, etc... The interior has a black cloth lining with a velcro strap for holding documents secure and the lid side has 4 net pockets with elastic. Three pockets along the bottom are small and would only hold small items like a pencil eraser. The top pocket is bigger and would hold half sheet size papers or whatever. There is a keyhole hangar on the back, but I can't see anyone hanging this thing on a wall. I will probably just put Gorilla tape over the hangar hole to keep out debris. The case is made in Viet Nam. It is an excellent value for the $27 and would be worth even more. For that amount of money you could not ask for more than what this delivers. This is a handsome, rugged and functional clipboard/field box/portable desk and can be used by almost anyone in some way. Great for students, people who work in a field job, as a document box to keep in a car or truck, in an office, etc... Recommended.

This is great and really high quality. Unfortunately it wasn't big enough for my laptop so I had to return it. But if you have a ipad or MacBook air, this item is incredible

If you have a need for a storage clipboard, this is the ONLY way to go. Definitely get the one with the strap for convenience of carrying. Didn't set the lock...don't really need it. It makes a secure closing clip though. Got it for my hubby who is a truckdriver and he loves it. Had several plastic ones before and they don't hold up to being thrown in the truck and generally banged around. This is very well made, has lots of room for storage and convenience of the clip to make it a clipboard too. Adding a strip of velcro to the outside of box and on a pen to help hold a pen conveniently. He loves it!! We expect it to last a long time.

My intended use: I used a plastic storage clipboard for the last 5 years as a EMT and as a LPN. I used to use one to easily sanitize and keep pt care notes on the inside. With this I can easily sanitize it and lock up small expensive equipment (stethoscope, pulse ox, alivecore ecg, tablet, and pt notes) Pros: It has a 3 digit combination code that is user changeable. It is semi rugged and can keep stuff reasonably safe. A quick bleach wipe and its clean. Mesh pockets inside for pens, small stuff, and a strap to secure a small pc or ipad. I have a Surface Pro 1st gen with power keyboard and it fits with enough space for some paper work. It is a lot thicker than I thought it would be but I actually like the extra space. Cons: The back has a hole in it to allow you to hang it on a wall. I do not plan to do this. It is an entrance for contamination and water. I sealed it as another reviewer suggested. As a clinician who works in the hospital, I am often running around between patients. I found myself needing to write notes/reminders for patients, carrying lots of paperwork including papers with PHI/PII (personal health information/personally identifiable information), needing my chapstick, etc. I didn't like bringing a purse with me as it's not as easy to disinfect. Furthermore, I am forgetful and if I leave a purse or normal briefcase behind, people could rummage through it in theory. I wanted to make sure I was HIPAA-compliant and protecting my patients' information. Therefore, I bought this since it has a lock on it! Coworkers tease me for it because it definitely looks geeky, but they also think it's very smart! It's definitely saved me a lot of trouble and worry. The lock works perfectly. I love the added shoulder/cross body strap and use it every time. The latch continues to work well. And the briefcase holds so much stuff, including my laptop!

Works as it should. I do not use lock yet. It still has zip tie on it from factory. But otherwise it works as it should. Excellent quality.

Exterior gives the appearance of being decently constructed providing perception that this clipboard is meant for semi-heavy use; that's Not This Case. Upon review and light handling of parts of the interior of the case it will be discovered the interior, it use, and purpose received little thought, consideration, or testing. The strap on the right side of the interior (opened with the clip facing up) is designed to hold more than an inch of paper with a heavy nylon strap and decent Velcro closure. When this closure is opened the straps pull away from the inside of the case where it is stitched and glued to the paperboard backing. Poor quality paperboard, poor quality glue, no riveting of the ends of the straps to the case's aluminum edging. On the left interior case wall are net pockets providing storage for pens, business cards, and other small items with elastic straps across the top edge of these pockets for securing these items. The poor quality elastic is stretched excessively tight causing it to pull away form the paperboard backing; this without any handling of the area. Hoped to use this with my iPad (which fits perfectly) but will not chance it being unsecured to the interior of the case.

I buy a Vaultz Clipboard every year for work and the big problem I've always had is the latch breaking or dropping my clipboard. Now, with the added carry strap I no longer have the issue of holding a boxy clipboard and carrying my child back and forth from work. The combination lock definitely solves the latch issue as well.
