Strong Smell-Not made for bug control
**Update** After reading reviews I feel itโs important to add that neem cake and meal isnโt good for repelling fungus gnats. It has the strong neem smell but is a high nitrogen fertilizer that increases both bacteria and fungus growth in soil to help soil. So if this is added it will give the gnat larva more to eat and increase how quickly they change from larva to gnat. This does repel some insects, but that repelling action is short lived. So if you plan to use it for gnat or bug control skip this and get some BTI (mosquito bits) or sf nematodes. Mosquito bits should be soaked in warm water for 20-30mins before watering plants or using as a wetting agent for seed starting mix. If used as a wetting agent donโt microwave or sterilize after since it will kill the bti. Use weekly to prevent gnats or kill them. Nematodes are just added and soil must stay moist for a couple weeks and then treat again if needed to kill any that hadnโt hatched 2-4 weeks after the first round. A mix of both works wonders if youโre desperate. Now to the review: Definitely fresh stuff as it has a very strong scent. Using to help with bugs in my worm bins. Itโs helping some and the worms are eating it like crazy and growing very large! A nice side effect. Will buy more when I run out and try in the garden with a mix of worm castings and bone meal.

It works! Slow release insect control and fertilizer.
I put this out around bushes, trees, ground-cover in the garden spots of the yard in early spring. Rain slowly dissolved the pellets. The slow release of insecticidal oils and nitrogen really work! No more aphids in my ground-cover. Plus, the leaves are a deeper green from the nitrogen. I didnโt get a bag as shown in the photos, just two clear plastic bags of pellets in a cardboard box. Doesnโt really matter, as it all worked out.

My plants liked it !!
I purchased this because it was highly recommended as a preventive measure and a solution for fungus gnats. I admit after I steeped it into a tea like solution and applied it to my planters as recommended the fungus gnats were gone. The need cake when steeped into a liquid has an oily residue leaving a slight cover so-to-speak on your soil; which is to detour fungus gnats from coming back. But, if you top water at all it will leech the need oil from your soil and the gnats do come back. Our plants liked the added nutrients though and became darker green in color and bushy with increased foliage. Con - it does have an odor to it so necessarily how much you apply to your indoor plants.

Neem pellets to the rescue
Excellent product. I crumble into my soil mix and sometimes I dissolve them into water and water the plants. Keeps pests away and add nutrients.

Difficult to dissolve in water
Did not completely got rid of fungus gnats. Big chunks did not dissolve in water. Overall, does not smell bad.

Best neem I have used
I had a serious problem with fungus gnats. I used this to make neem tea and finally solved the major fungus gnat infestation in my plants. I first pre-soaked the neem chunks overnight in about 1-2 cups of water. I then broke them up and added them to a gallon or two of water (1-2 tbsp per gallon of water). Then I would let this set in an unsealed bottle or water jug for at least 6 hours before using it to water my plants. Unfortunately it doesnโt kill small centipedes. I did try other brands of neem meal but they were completely ineffective. I tried every fungus gnat treatment you can imagine and this is the only thing that definitely works. It took about a month but it does work.

Lots of mold!
I bought this for helping to control fungus gnats while starting to start to sow seeds inside. Wow, what a mistake! All of the seed trays/pots that I put this in became covered mold within 1-2 days. The pots/trays right next to them that I left alone as a "control" were fine. Same tray prep, seed starting mixture, and water/nutrient solution. The only difference was the addition of this stuff for which the fungus gnats absolutely loved it. The same thing happened with my potato grow bags. I used a hydrogen peroxide solution to kill off the mold but it would magically reappear starting on the neem meal chunks.
