Can this be used on a platform bed- bed with no box spring ?

If you have a solid base under the mattress, or solid supports for the rails that extend from the safety rail, it should work. We do not have a box spring; the solid supports, or rails, extend pretty far under the mattress and we have experience no problems with "tipping" the safety rail either entering or leaving the bed.

Would a 14” laptop fit on the pouch?

I think it would. I tried my 15” and it would fit if I stand it up with the narrow end at the top. A 14” would probably slide down in there.

Do you have to purchase two kits to have handles on both sides of the bed?

No. I purchased one kit for one side of the bed. It works great.

Will this work with an adjustable bed?

Yes it will it tucks under mattress not bed frame. They work very well to help you to get out of the bed. This is the third one I have purchased.
