100% Perfect Now (after 95% the first month)
[Updated because the early issues are completely gone] This purchase was an exact duplicate of the Schlage model & finish that I had to discard after 10 years of use. I expected more than 10 years, but really can't complain. This replacement works exactly the same, which is a good thing. During the first month only, this new unit occasionally failed to open the lock until the second try. All but one of those failures was for locking on the way out; just one time unlocking on the way in. After that first 30 days, everything has worked perfectly. I didn't call Schlage customer service because the need wasn't severe and because the issue was both infrequent and fixable on retry. Using the key instead of buttons always worked, so I was never really locked out. No big worries, so four stars initially - five stars now. My identical previous front door lock did not have this problem. Well, at least not until it died. But by that point even the key didn't work. I wish it had lasted longer than ten years. But I obviously like this model because I bought another one just like it. Oh - and I chose it originally because of a top rating from Consumer Reports years ago. Comparing my Schlage deadbolt (two now) to my original non-Schlage keypad lock, this model is definitely an improvement. The original used an internal motor to throw & retract the deadbolt. I thought I would prefer this feature, but I soon ran into problems when the internal plastic gears got stripped whenever the deadbolt wasn't perfectly aligned going into the door jamb or had too much friction coming out - common for my front doorframe from slight hot/cold weather warping. To be clear, this was a problem on a different deadbolt lock which is why I switched to this Schlage model where I provide the locking & unlocking force (no motor) after pushing buttons. I haven't found anything plastic in this Schlage product. A final note: This deadbolt lock is fairly easy to install if you follow the easy-to-read instructions, i.e., not broken English from some poor translation. It's not a simple as, say, a plug-and-play USB for your computer. But most home front doors won't need any tools beyond a normal-sized screwdriver. Then "programming" the combination is crazy simple, again by following the clear instructions. It's nice too that they supply the 9-volt battery because I never stock those at home. The product has that heavy solid-metal heft that you want for home protection.

Quality Deadbolt with a Nice Look
Recently replaced my front door and put this deadbolt on it. I have previously used a digital keypad door lock and liked the option to not have to worry about a key. I chose this one based upon reviews, functions, value, finish, and style of accompanying door handle (which I ordered separately). I did a proper job of my pre-hung door installation. As it was a pre-hung door with the basic pre-cut lock cutouts, things pretty much lined up. I did need to take a wood chisel to my cutouts and slightly enlarge them in one direction and deepen them enough for the extra security plate for the lock. This work had nothing to do with the deadbolt set itself, but it can affect the function. Others have pointed out that if the lock mechanism cannot fully extend or has too much side contact, the lock may not function properly. I installed mine properly and it works well. I compared this deadbolt to several others that had more expensive features, such as Wi-Fi access and code control. Those locks cost twice as much or more and I came to the conclusion that I really had no need for those extra features and decided on this model deadbolt. Another contributing factor on my decision is I really liked the antique brass finish on this lock, which matched the antique brass finish on an attractive handle that I liked (the Schlage FE285 CAM 609 Acc LH Camelot Trim Lower Half Front Entry Handleset with Accent Left Hand Lever, Antique Brass). Note: Schlage does not offer the antique brass finish across its entire product line. One additional note: this deadbolt does not have an auto-locking feature, which was one feature I had desired for my deadbolt. A lot of the Wi-Fi enabled locks had this feature, which allows the deadbolt to automatically lock after a preset time, such as 30 seconds or 2 minutes. In the end, I concluded I no longer had kids at home that would leave the door unlocked and I could trust myself to turn the deadbolt to the locked position, as needed.

Once you use this you will want one on every lock!
I've had this for almost a year and it still works perfectly. This is a high quality lock with lots of neat features. At first I was a little skeptical because using the key takes some practice and this was my first keypad lock and I wanted to make sure I could use the key. I even went and got extra keys made for my family. What a waste of money that was! I have never used the key once! No one has, it is so easy and convenient. Things like warming your car up in the morning and not needing to shut off the car to lock up the house. Or hands full carrying all your bags of groceries in one trip (because who ever wants to make two) and it is so much easier then trying to fumble with a key when your hands are full. I also love that you manually turn the lock, I have an older home with front doors that sag a little and this way I control the door locking. I have a friend that has a keypad lock that has a motor to automatically turn the deadbolt, unfortunately if the door isn't lined up perfect it takes quite a few attempts for the door to actually lock. If you have an older home you know exactly what I'm talking about. With this one you control the deadbolt which is perfect. It also installs very easily, no extra holes to drill in your door, if you have ever changed a deadbolt this will be no problem for you. Just read the directions and you will be fine, the only hard part is using the key at first. The numbers have shown NO sign of wear whatsoever, the numbers are not painted on to wear or scratch off, they are a permanent part of the keypad.

Easy installation, looks nice, simple to operate
I replaced a conventional deadbolt with this Schlage Camelot in less than 20 minutes. The only things I had to adjust were to switch the bolt-plate from the rounded edge one installed by default to the square edge one, and I needed to switch a screw on the striker plate because the old one had been sticking out just enough to hit the new deadbolt plate when closing the door. (Kind of needed doing anyway, as the old deadbolt sometimes hit that screw whenever the door frame was swollen due to rain.) The instructions made installation look much more complicated than it actually was. Remove the old hardware. Install the deadbolt in the door edge. Put the keypad part on the outside, threading the control wire through a guide. Put the inside latchplate on. Connect the wires and 9v battery. Put the backplate on and screw it down. Program a custom code. Done. Functionally, it's great and I was able to program it easily. The fact the bolt mechanism itself isn't motorized kind of surprised me, but it makes sense -- all the battery does is temporarily engage a gear that engages the outside key-knob. Hit the Schlage button and turn counter-clockwise to lock (we have a door with right-side hinges). Enter the code and turn clockwise to open the lock. I'm guessing that with so little to do, that 9v battery will probably last a long time. A couple houses ago, we had a motorized electronic deadbolt, and I can say for certainty, we were replacing those 4 AAs every other month. Three months at the most. For an entry-level (no pun intended) keypad deadbolt, this seems to be a pretty good value. Plus we love being able to leave the house and lock up without having to dig out keys. The reason I deducted one star is the inside latch feels pretty cheap and loose. As in the latch-lever seems to be hollow. I mean, I'm not expecting Fort Knox in a deadbolt like this, but one tends to expect it to feel more solid. Would I buy this again? Probably, although truth be told, I'm actually considering moving this deadbolt to a different (less used) door that needs a deadbolt (but where keyless would also be handy), and possibly upgrading to a more premium model, with remote fobs and a motorized bolt. But only if some more money shows up. In the meantime, this is way, way better than the old key-only deadbolt.

Great Product
I love this lock. I installed two of them on my house. Here are the highlights: Pros -Very easy to install. -Easy to program once you get the hang of it. -Works great -Seems very solid -Looks great Cons (minor points) -Instructions are clear but not clearly laid out (they sort of zigzag across the instruction sheet rather than following a normal sequence) -Using the key lock portion as opposed to the keypad is bit tricky until you get the hang of it. More Details: The lock was easy to install; easier than many regular deadbolts. It took only about 10 minutes to replace the old deadbolt with the Schlage BE365. The lock can be adapted to fit both 2-3/4 and 2-3/8 inch backsets by adjusting simple setting on the deadbolt mechanism. It took another 10 minutes to figure out how to program the thing, but you figure it out, programing is quite straight forward. Using the key lock (as opposed to the keypad) can be a bit tricky and you may think the lock is broken at first. You have to actually push in the tumbler or the mechanism will spin freely and not unlock. A minor point, and maybe a feature, it just takes getting used to. The construction looks very solid. Both the lock mechanism and cover are made out of metal. The design looks sound, the look mechanism is secured to itself separate from the cosmetic inside cover piece. Although the combination only consists of four digits, I think it would be tough to crack because it locks you out from further tries for 30 seconds after four wrong combinations. All in all, I am very happy with this lock and highly recommend it.

Can't live without it!
I love my BE365 CAM 609 Keypad Deadbolt. The first time I ever saw this was at my cousin's house and thought, how clever! But then, I heard it became a pain because my aunt thought she could "drop by" unannounced at any point in time since she had the code. Years later I purchased my first home. I have two dogs and am recently divorced. When I took them potty, I would never lock the door (I live in a really nice area). Then I heard about a couple home invasions and started getting nervous about leaving the door unlocked in case someone would sneak in the couple minutes I'd be out. So, I started locking the door behind me. This became a pain carrying around a set of keys, poop bags, two leashes, etc. I was constantly dropping the keys and some times couldn't find them in the dark! So, I asked my cousin what brand his was and went to my local home improvement store. They only had 3 colors in stock, none of which matched my door handle. I'm so glad I found this at Amazon. It was the best price I could find and matched my door perfectly. Me and my dad installed it within 30 minutes. You can't match your old keys to it (I had quikset) but it's ok, because I don't carry the Schlage keys. If by chance your new deadbolt doesn't work (very unlikely as my cousin hasn't changed his battery in 5 years), you still have the ability to use your old key to get in (back door and garage access). It's very simple to set up, you can create multiple codes for certain people. For example, if you and your significant other break up, you don't have to re-key the house. Just delete his code and you're good! If you have an emergency and need your neighbor or police/firefighter to get in, just give them a code. I've had a greater sense of security since I purchased this Keypad Deadbolt. I never use my keys anymore, they just sit in my purse. It's great and I highly recommend!

Does Not Function Correctly
This deadbolt was horrible to install. We had to uninstall it and reinstall the system 3 times. Then, there were no instructions on how to simple use the lock (only test the lock). Finally, we watched YouTube videos to find out how it functions. The locking feature functions perfectly. You hit the button and turn. However, when we go to unlock the door ALWAYS flashes red and beeps, before turning green. If you do not turn it at just the right time after this, the door will not open. Only thing I can find online is that the battery might be low. Which is ridiculous since it was just purchased, I should not be spending more money to make this product work. I bought this to make entry easier, not harder, and now Iโm debating on returning it.

Excellent lock, easy to use, well made, with a few installation tips.
All the positive reviews are accurate. This is an excellent lock. Very convenient, easy to use, and well built. Just three comments about the installation. I had Schlage dead bolts on my doors that I replaced with these, and holes in both doors had to be made larger, which is not trivial. To enlarge existing holes in doors correctly takes some special tools. I ended up calling a locksmith just for that task, and I'm glad I did. I definitely saved money buying these locks on sale, and also re-keying them myself, but sometimes professional help is a smart choice. Just mentioning this because even if you're replacing Schlage locks the holes may or may not fit. Just a warning. Second, the outside plate that fits against the door has two small pins that stick out slightly. When you first place it in the hole and snug it against the outside of the door the plate will stand off just a bit. The pins sink into the wood when the screws are tightened, which prevents it from sliding sideways, but initially you may think it's warped or something is wrong. It's designed that way for good reason. Once the screws are tight it should be flush. Third, the lock comes with an extra, heavy duty face plate that's thicker than the standard face plate. You don't have to use it, but the extra long screws and sturdiness of the second layer of metal is more secure. The downside is you may need to chisel out some additional depth on the door frame to use the second extra thick plate. Just one more thing to be aware of, and a choice to make. All that said, I'm very happy with this lock, and highly recommend it.

Good quality lock, very reliable and convenient to use, but probably won't last a lifetime
This is my second time around with this same lock. Installed the first one about 10 years ago and it always worked like a champ. However, over the past several months it started to wear out. Often had to enter the code and turn the bolt several times, and then re-enter the code and turn the bolt some more, and so on, before it would finally catch the lock and open the door. Not a fun exercise, especially in the middle of winter. And this wasn't just a cold-weather problem, it continued to fail even as the temperatures warmed up. Clearly some internal part, maybe a spring or something, had deteriorated. Anyway, it was looking a bit worn after ten years use so I went ahead bought a new one on amazon for a very good price (for way less than what the big-box hardware store was asking). Took about 15 minutes to install. Easy. The new one appears absolutely indentical in every way to the old one, same design, parts etc., so I expect it to last at least as long as the old one. Time will tel!.

Never going back to keyed entry again
This keypad lock was easy to install and I love not needing to handle keys when I come in the house from the garage with an armload of groceries. The first set I received had mismatched parts and Amazon promptly sent me a new set that worked properly. About a week after installing it, I had some issues with it not locking, but after some jiggling, it has worked perfectly for months. I do carry the key โjust in caseโ.

Best deadbolt ever
This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I LOVE this lock. It works perfectly. I had to get some help with installation because the hole in my door was too small, so make sure it will fit before you buy, or make sure you have the tools to enlarge the hole, if needed. It is so much easier to give the code to people, instead of worrying about copying keys. And, changing the code is much easier than buying a new lock, if you need to take access away from someone. Highly recommend.

Excellent electronic deadbolt
Everyone has suggested that I go with Schlage for an electronic deadbolt. So I decided to pick this one up. Installation was a breeze, everything was straight forward and I had zero issues. Everything works as advertised. Only concern I have is the inside lever is extremely loose, and moves around. It feels like it could break at any moment. Going to keep an eye on that for the next little while.
