Homework Helpers: Chemistry, Revised Edition

This is not so much a review but rather a few comments. This book is very good at explaining concepts at a very basic level. So, if in your class a new concept is introduced and you have no idea what is going on, this book will get you on track. I have used this book inthis fashon and believe it to be worth the cost.One of the negatives is that the book sometimes introduces concepts out of logical sequence. A great example is in Ch. 3 where the author talks about Quantum Numbers several pages before a discussion of electron orbitals. A student who doesn't know anything about electron orbitals will have no clue what the author is talking about with respect to Quantum Numbers.That aside, a student using the book as a supplement to a chemistry class would probably look up "Quantum Numbers" in the index and turn to that section if they were have difficulties, rather than read the book from beginning to end.In summery, I'm glad I have the book and I'm using it as a review guide this summer to keep thoughts of chemistry fresh in my brain.

GREAT simple chemistry book/study guide!! I'm currently working towards a 2nd degree in Nursing, and am completing some pre-reqs before he HESI and applying to a program. The last time I had a Chem class was in H.S. (almost 10 yrs ago and I remember almost failing it!). I am now in an Intro to Chem class and, again, have had such trouble keeping up with & understanding the material! I pratically failed our 1st exam.After this book arrived, I immediately tore open the package, sat down, started reading & working out the practice problems. I have covered almost every subject from my class, since school began, and feel so much more confident in the subject just from from this evenings reading marathon than I have after 1 1/2 months of class lecture/lab/reading textbook/going to tutorials/etc. This book is 1/4 the size of my textbook! I would fall asleep reading that textbook; not so with this little gem!I recommend this book to anyone currently in an intro/beginner chemistry class, about to start a class, or even if you're just interested in chemistry. The author makes the concepts so easy to understand, I feel confused over how I did not understand this material before I received this book!--- EDIT ----With the help of this book I got an A in the class!! :D

I picked up this book without ever having taken a chem class in my life. I did all the practice problem sets and tests and by the end, was prepared to take Gen Chem at a university. The explanations are clear, and the author is great at translated abstract ideas into everyday concepts. Please make a companion volume that's just more problem sets (with answers). The crucial info is also in bold and in green, so it's easy to find. Also, tables throughout are very helpful. The answers keys are at the back of each chapter, not after each problem, so you have a chance to solve on your own. And the author walks you through the steps of how to get the right answer, instead of just giving you a number, so you get to learn why you got it wrong (if you did!). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This is seriously the most helpful Chemistry book ever. Like other people have said, it is like having a chemistry tutor at your side. I have NEVER understood the basic chemistry foundations, even after taking an intro to chemistry course in college. I am doing pre-med now in my adult life, and thought it would be good to learn a bit before I get to the class. I am so happy I did. In the first 2 chapters, I learned more than I ever have about Chemistry. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether you struggle with chemistry or not. It will help boost your grade and your understanding of Chemistry!

Got this to aid homeschool studies in chemistry for 8th grader but it was setting on the shelf until he took a chemistry class at a local Think Tank and they were using the book.You will need to supplement content with addition resources if student doesn't easily "get" chemistry. Even if they do, they will still need supplemental resources.Clean pages (not busy and distracting). Good testing (lesson and chapter) included in the book which is why it gets a 5 from me.

This provides a concise and clear explanation of chemistry concepts to students (and concerned parents). I recommend it to parents at my parent-teacher conferences because kids learn at different paces and have short attention spans in class. If they don't understand it the first time in class or are confused with the background section on take-home worksheets, this book is there to help. And of course, sometimes seeing something explained in a different way is all it takes for the light bulb to go on.

Son had Chem 1 in college last year. He did well but wasn’t very confident. He was concerned he would forget stuff over the summer before taking Chem 2 this year. He worked through this book over the summer and it totally built his confidence. He now says Chem 2 is easy and he just excitedly texted me his first exam score. It was great!

Oh my goodness, if your desire is to pass your college chemistry class this book is a MUST! After leaving chemistry class I was a lost soul, I actually considered changing my major so that I didn't have to take this class. People, this book is GOLD, and you know the value of gold! I failed my fist quiz and it's because I didn't have this book yet, since then we've had 5 tests and my lowest grade is a "B" I'm extremely pleased! Thank you Mr. Curran, I certainly wasn't a fan of ANY science, but I now love chemistry, I would buy any book with your name on it, book is truly "God Sent"

Excellent resource! Easy to follow and explains much better then the school text book. Her mark increased!

This is my 5th homework helper book and I keep coming back to these books for a reason! they are excellent straight to the point and easy to understand what more can you ask for!?
