I was worried it wont be genuinely anbernic or it will be fake but its genuine and amazing. So far so good without issues at all. Just need to add some of my own games whenever I find the time but there are tons on games on it already

Some difficulties with sound but really lovely little console
I'd be the first to confess I'm not any kind of games console expert but this is easy to get playing and the graphics are clear and bright. I don't notice a lag in playing but the sound is not good at all at times - as though it's buffering. I'll add a video demonstrating this to my review. The actual console is impressive with backlit buttons and well laid out. The game playing is something I'm not really qualified to judge but, as a novice, I managed to get playing within minutes. You can link to others or to a computer games system via Bluetooth. I like it.

Retro gaming reborn with modern brilliance. Play anywhere, relive every classic.
I am very happy with my choice of the RG40XX H Retro Handheld Game Console for my partner. It arrived promptly and undamaged, with minimal yet safe and hygienic packaging. The console feels solidly made and of excellent quality, with a bright 4.0-inch IPS screen that delivers clear visuals and protects the eyes during extended gaming sessions. The built-in 64GB TF card packed with 5488 classic games is an absolute delight, offering endless entertainment across various formats. The Linux system adds great flexibility to add emulators and more games. The 5G WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity work seamlessly, allowing online play and connection to wireless controllers or headsets. I especially love the option to connect the console to the TV, transforming it into a full gaming setup. The powerful 3200mAh battery provides long-lasting playtime, and fast USB-C charging is a real bonus. The overall build quality, including tempered glass protection, is impressive, making this a great value for money product. I can confidently say I am happy to recommend this genuine, high-standard product from a reputable seller. It truly brings joy and nostalgia with modern convenience.

Not configured properly
I had great hope for this game console, however I am under whelmed. Initial thoughts were good as the construction and feel of the console were good, it had weight, responsive buttons, ports and sockets reasonable screen, lights you name it. But when you come to use it, its a different experience. Yes the games are old and dated, but this is a retro console, the main issue though is that the games have not been configured to work with the console, so many of the games you can't start or play, because having pressed every available button/stick, no controls keys are configured to action the command require. Those games that you can play, take a lot of trial and error before you find the control buttons that make it work and even then, they are often not the most ideal, for example why would you use say the A button to fire, when there are side trigger buttons available. To me it looks as though they spent all their time and effort on the design of the console and then just dumped a load of games on it with no thought re. configuring the controls. In addition to the lack of control I also find that the console is temperamental when charging, it seems to stop part way and it looses its charge quickly or perhaps the power on button doesn't work properly. Maybe this is a faulty console? The box was not secured, so maybe it was a return? The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is for the build quality, I'm being generous.

Really interesting Games System to play some great historical games
This is a comprehensive review of the Anbernic RG40XX H games console. I have gone into some detail as this is a complex system and I think some of the reviews do not do this console justice. Hope you like it. 🕹️ SUMMARY In short you should get this if you are nostalgic to play some great retro games, also want more than casual gameplay and are happy to tinker with settings and learn the device. You will be rewarded with a well made hand held game console pre-loaded with over 5000 games to try and with the option to use your own ROMs if you have any. All in all horizontal form factor with a decent 4’ screen 🕹️ IS THIS FOR ME? First things first. This is a mini computer loaded with a retro game emulator and then packed with thousands of retro games ROMs from different systems. Because you have many different games from different systems you may/will need to tinker with settings, work out which of the buttons and controllers work etc. There are many many game guides online that can help you with this. If you just want a few old games to play out of the box there are cheaper options but if you are prepared to learn the settings and/or have your own ROMs you want to try this might well be for you. 🕹️ THE CONSOLE The console is a horizontal form factor and at its widest is about 16.5 cm across by 8 cm down. With a depth of about 2cm at its deepest (at the shoulder buttons) overall it is nicely rounded and feels comfortable in the hands. The screen is a quite large 4”, (measured at the diagonal), which equates to about 8.5cm x 6cm, with a resolution of 640 x 480 which is basically the same as a 4:3 SD television (NTSC) would have been. Properly retro. There are controls a plenty. You have a left and right Joystick at the bottom, a joypad/d-pad above them at the left hand side and a the 4 button (x, y, a, b) game keys above the right hand joy pad. Then you have L1, L2 and R1, R2 shoulder buttons. Underneath the joysticks you have a Select and Start button on the left and a Menu button on the right. Nearly all of these buttons can be used in different combinations on various games but the menu button seems to be mainly for the consoles own Operating System. I like the layout of the buttons and they feel comfortable. You are more likely to use the d-pad and game keys (sometimes with the shoulder buttons) than the joysticks and they seem to be positioned in the best place. Finishing the consoles look and feel on the top you have the Power Button, volume rocker, usb c port (for charging), reset button and a mini HDMI out socket. On the bottom you have the speakers, 2 micro SD card slots (so you can add your own ROMs, music etc) and a headphone socket 🕹️ MENU SYSTEM Booting up the device gives you an Anbernic logo for a few seconds before putting you into the slightly messy menu system. I guess with so many settings, ROMs etc this is inevitable but might put casual users off. The menus are as follows ⭐️Game Rooms - This lists the different emulators and within those emulators you can find games. There are 16 different emulators listed and I’ve detailed in the Emulator Section ⭐️RetroArch - This itself is a front end emulator program that can emulate several games systems. In this menu it is another way of looking at the games available so most in the games room menu are repeated here but in a different way. I think some additional consoles and games might be in this menu and I have listed the extra options in the emulator section below. ⭐️ App Center - This allows you to use some additional functionality beyond gaming and also some expert modes within the console as well. There is a music player that supports Flac, MP3, etc,a Video player (I’ve played the stock included video only) and a Book reading app which might only support txt files. Then there is a file manager mode, and an apps mode which is mainly about settings like LED Mode, game guides, back up and restore etc. Then there is an expert mode. I haven’t explored this, it looks a little like a file manager again. ⭐️ Favourites - A place where you can add your favourite games. There are over 5000 included so you will need this to simplify your gaming experience ⭐️ History - Again this shows what you have done and is a good place to add to your favourites Search - Nuff said Then there is the actual Menu you get from hitting the menu button. This gives you a LOT of things you can adjust like time out on screen, background brightness, background image, wi-fi and so on. In game this can give other options such as save states etc and in some cases allows you to adjust things like shaders (the way graphics render things like light, texture and shadows). I’ve learnt that by pressing the B button when you access the menu in game play you find a way to exit the game you are playing As you can imagine there is a huge amount of adjustments and things you can do. If you just like to start and play you can but if you like to set things up your way there is a shed load of things you can do. It takes exploring and time to see everything. 🕹️ GAMES AND GAME PLAY So as mentioned there are at least 5,200 games available. Those games range from classic simple and really retro games such as Pac-Man (several versions), Breakout. Frogger etc to more complex retro games like Tekken, Colin McRae Rally 2, Crash Bandicoot, GTA II (and Vice City). Some of the big name games won’t be there for copyright reasons but if you have them you can create or source the ROMs and give them a go Not every game plays well. You have to work out the controls (game guides online might help) and a couple I tried I couldn’t get to work at all. If this will wind you up, it isn’t for you. If you can move on to the next game you will find lots to enjoy. Think this way if you could only play half the games and you played one a day every day it would still take you seven years to play them all. That’s assuming you don’t load other games as well or get fixated on a few of the games. Thoughts ⭐️ There is no particular lag when playing. ⭐️ The screen is good and clear and the sounds OK through the speakers, a bit tinny but plenty loud enough. I haven’t tried the headphone slot, where I imagine the sound will improve (and irritate others less) ⭐️ The joysticks, d-pads and buttons all pretty responsive and solid looking. I’m not sure they are perfectly responsive, so you might struggle on some very technical games, but note you can even use external controllers on this. ⭐️ Where games have saves the console will save your position in the game to the micro SD card. 🕹️ EMULATORS Note - Other emulators other than those below exist on the system, I haven’t explored all of them, but below are Emulators that exist that have games on the included ROMS. The list of emulators that are included in menu 1 PSP - PlayStation portable PS1 - PlayStation 1 Vertical Arcade - This actually is an emulator for vertical (landscape) games so doesn’t play that well in a horizontal console. CPS1 - Capcom Play System 1 CPS2 - Capcom Play System II CPS3 - Capcom Play System III NEOGEO- The NEO-GEO Japanese arcade game system (later a home games console) FBneo - Final Burn NEO another multiple game system emulator MAME - Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. This covers thousands of different old arcade boards SMS -Sega Master System (& probably game gear too) MD -Mega Drive SEGA32x - Sega genesis add on PCE - PC Engine emulator (8 bit machine) NGPC - Neo Geo Pocket Colour GG - Game Gear emulator WSC - Wonderswan Emulator Additional game systems found under RetroArch menu Openbor- Side scrolling game engine DC- Dreamcast Atari 2600 - Classic old 1977 game systems that cost a fortune at launch but dominated gaming for a while Atomiswave - Arcade system based on Dreamcast GW- Game and Watch emulator H.Brew - Homebrew Emulator MD-CD - Megadrive CD MSX - MSX was a microsoft zx80 based computer NAOMI - Sega Naomi arcade board PCE-CD - PC engine CD version PICO - Sega PICO SATURN - Sega Saturn PORTS - I don’t know, I think maybe some PC Games 🕹️ OTHER THOUGHTS 🔸 Using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi you can do things like connect external controllers, play with another player, stream to a PC or TV using moonlight 🔸 If you insert another Micro-SD/TF card in the second slot it automatically writes a file structure for ROMS, Videos, Music etc 🔸 I have successfully copied ROMS onto the second card and got some Commodore 64 games running (I had to map the buttons to get one to work) 🔸 You can put your own operating system onto a card and use in the console if you like 🔸 There is a whole community out there with guides, tweaks, emulators, ROM info etc as well as helping you with settings 🕹️ FINAL THOUGHTS There is a lifetime of games which will bring back memories for the older purchasers and are good enough fun for younger users (as today’s amazing graphics and complexity does not always make a great playable game). The graphics, sound and controls are all pretty fab but the menus a little complex. This is an amazing device if you are prepared to put a bit of work in to learn it and tweak it and do your research and read up online. It is a great device if you just want to play out of the box. I recommend looking around at the prices before purchasing as they do fluctuate somewhat. I think it is great value when you think you can get so many games for the price of one these days but would always check for a deal.
