Simple, effective solution that keeps drains clog-free with minimal effort
I’ve been really happy with the OXO Good Grips Silicone Shower & Tub Drain Protector. It fits securely over the drain and does a great job catching hair without blocking water flow, which has helped prevent clogs. The silicone material is easy to clean and stays in place nicely, even with daily showers.

Catches hair, not soap scum!
The apartment management company left one of those little wire mesh drain strainers which lasts about two showers before it's so clogged with scum that the water starts backing up and you have to remove the strainer, which defeats the purpose. The Oxo model stays in place during the shower and catches the hair without clogging with soap scum. It goes over the drain which means it has bigger surface area so you don't need to remove the hair quute as often. Installation is as easy as just putting it over the drain. This solved a really annoying problem permanently. My partner would just kick the old strainer out instead of trying to clean it, and this annoyed me because then I was stuck pouring drain cleaner down the shower drain and then flushing it with hot water after a while just to solve his hair clogs. Our building has old 1950s plumbing so you don't want to use harsh drain cleaners if you really don't have to and the management uses Yardi and their answer to everything is find a way to document that it's the tenant's fault and threaten fines. So you don't want to contact maintenance unless it's a last resort.

Okay
Good for rentals, fits over my tub’s drain that sticks up since I can’t replace it with a flat one. Catches short and longer hair just fine. Does slow draining some, but water still gets through and down just fine. Stays in place too. Eventually switched to a cheaper knock off that works about the same when this one’s plastic got a little gross. Can clean but I’d prefer a stainless option if it was still this shape.

Works great!
The t-bar broke in our shower drain. I used a little silicone to keep the drain cover in place since it wouldn’t hold a screw anymore and needed something extra to help keep hair from going down the drain. This worked perfectly. Heavy enough to stay in place and no worries about hair clogs

I WAS SKEPTICAL BUT IT ACTUALLY WORKS VERY WELL
My husband was complaining about my long hair quickly causing the shower/tub drain to drain slowly and he was having to clean the drain a lot. His short hair never caused this problem before we started sharing a shower. I also use a very emollient body wash which I believe tends to adhere to the hair going down the drain making things more gunky. I thought this device probably wouldn’t stay in place and might let hair slip under it and down into the drain anyway. Although it says “ weighted” , it’s not very heavy. And the edges don’t really suction to the tub. But, despite that I was pleasantly surprised! I have used it 3 or 4 times now and even though the water from the tub spout hits directly against it, it didn’t move. Yes the tub does drain more slowly within a few minutes as the hair and lotion like body was start collecting around this device. But I find that after I turn off the shower and wrap my hair in a towel and dry off and put on my robe, and put away my toiletries, the tub has drained just fine. And this device catches an AMAZING amount of hair. If any gets through, it couldn’t be much. And the slimy body wash has accumulated too. I just pick it up and get a paper towel and wipe everything off and into the trash. The hair catcher is clean and dry ready for next time. I don’t leave it in the shower because my husband doesn’t need it and there’s no point to leaving it wet to get gunky. I think cleaning it each time is crucial. Otherwise it collects so much hair and stays wet which gets gross fast. It will also last longer if it is cleaned after every “long hair” use. My hair is barely on top of my shoulders and not very thick. I think this would be a life saver if you have long thick hair or multiple longer hair users in your home.

Decent with room for improvement
For sure stops hair from going down the drain, but does allow water to pool up while you shower so your ankle deep in water by the end of your shower.

Amazing! Catches ALL of my hair. No more clogged drain!
I have long, thick, brown hair. I live in an apartment. The shower is nothing special. Literally after EVERY shower, my hair would clog up the drain. I honestly don't even know how I still have so much hair with all that I lose each time I shower. Anyway, I had bought one of those plastic shower snake things and was using that after each shower to clean my hair out but that just was not practical. Plus it never got all the hair and it was gross. Mildew and other disgusting things would come up with the hair each time I used it, making the shower a mess. I needed to do something else so I bought a white, cheap, spikey, drain protector hair catcher but it didn't fit my bathtub drain because I have a large, tall plug that can't be taken off (see picture), and it was too short. I cut a hole in the top of it so it would fit, and that worked for about 2 weeks and then it would just float around, and hair would get underneath it. SO, I looked online and saw this. It looked tall enough that it fit over the plug and I've bough OXO products before, so I felt safe buying it. I had my apartment's maintenance staff come and clean the hair out, and then I started using this. It is a thick plastic, and it is heavy so no hair slips underneath it. It also doesn't move around. It stays put. My husband gets fuzzy's in his belly button from his hospital scrubs and it also catches the fuzzies which had also been clogging up the drain. After the shower, it is easy to pull the hair off of it. The other drain protector I had (the white, spikey one), would really hang on to the hair and I had a hard time getting it out. With this one, it is very easy. And I have literally had NO issues with the drain being clogged since using it, which is amazing. Like I said before, prior to this, I had a clogged drain after every shower. Also before I had this, I would feel the need to put my hair on the sides of the shower so after, when I got out, I could clean it off with a tissue and it wouldn't go into the drain. Now, I just let all the hair fall because I know it won't go down the drain and get clogged. It is also easy to clean. I would highly, HIGHLY recommend this product if you have had similar problem as I have. I've added two photos for reference.

Works as advertised
Works as intended & traps all the hair very well in my pop-up bath tub drain. Construction appears to be sturdy & will last a long time.

Traps hair but clogs water
It really really traps the hair but clogs the water. You have to literally stand above it to make the water drain through it.

Bluffant !
Or, si !
