Great Battery for Makita...Much more power
The original batteries for my 1988 9.6v Makita Drill were at end of life and I needed new ones. A few years back I had purchased Chinese non-Makita NiCd replacements and they were dead also...actually they were out-lasted by one of my original 1988 Makita NiCd batteries. In the mean time I've had good experience with NiMH batteries outlasting and providing better "Umph" than NiCds, so I took a chance on one of the Makita 9034s.Wow! Major increase in power and discharge capacity over my NiCds, but you do need to get a new charger for the batteries...I bought Makita's DC1804T charger, and it works for both my remaining NiCd and the new NiMH. I also have a small 3 1/4" Makita tile saw 4190D that I use all the time for blind cutting into drywall and trimming boards...it's my GO-TO small saw, and it takes the same 9.6v battery as my drill. The new NiMH battery is a MAJOR improvement on the saws ability to cut thru long difficult blind cuts....it's like an all-new saw.Bottom Line: I discarded my remaining NiCd battery and bought a second Makita 9.6 v NiMH battery for use when one is charging. I highly recommend the switch to NiMH...huge improvement in tool performance.BTW...the required new DC1804 charger is larger than Makita's original NiCd charger...so it didn't fit in my Makita Drill carrying case. But my case is so old that its metal with metal dividers, so I was able to move the dividers over and get the new charger to fit nicely in the case with the drill. Those with a newer form-fitted plastic case may not be so lucky.

Great New batteries for the Old Classic Tools
I finally succumbed and went out and purchased some new higher voltage battery powered drills. They were very much heavier and more cumbersome than my old Makita drills. What a great relief it was to find these new higher powered and better memory NiMH batteries. I ordered them and the new Makita DC1804 charger from Amazon and got them quite quickly. They have been working very very well thus far. I took back the new very heavy drills and am very pleased that I can now use my much lighter and less cumbersome 9.6 volt Makita drills again. The battery life is much longer and the new charger charges both the new batteries and the old batteries. These are a definite purchase if you wish to continue using your 9.6 volt tools.Wendell in beautiful Gardiner, WA.

A great battery
The 9.6 volt Makita drill I bought this for was made in Japan and doesn't have a keyless chuck, so it has been around a long time. When I needed another battery for my 14.4 volt driver, I saw this and since there was nothing wrong with the old drill I thought it might be nice to use two drills instead of having to replace the bits all the time. Well this battery is better than the 14.4 volt, (both have the same Amp Hour life). It just keeps going and going and going. So if you have one of these old drills, or find one in a garage sale, or a pawn shop, and you have an appropriate charger, for the price of a new battery you will be in business, or have a great drill to use when the new one decides it wants to retire.

Not as good as it should be.
I got 3 years of light duty from this battery pack before it would not take a charge. The battery it was supposed to replace is still going after 7 years.

Makita's upgraded 9.6v Battery
I have had my Makita 9.6v drill for years and it still runs great. My older (black in color) 9.6v stick style batteries were slowly wearing out and wouldn't hold a charge. I replaced one battery two years ago with the newer (gray color) 9.6v 2.6 Amp Hour NiMH stick style battery and have nothing but improved performance. The charging procedure is the same, but these batteries really hold their charge longer providing excellent power just before dropping off in charge. I finally had to get rid of the other older battery and now have two of the 2.6amp hour NiMH batteries. Well worth the price for increased time between charges and excellent power.
