A Must Have Book For Preparedness
I just reviewed the book so we can use it as product to list on our website as well as a free book giveaway promotion. This book is fantastic. I was impressed with the amount of material that was covered in this handbook. It really covered the gamut of illnesses and conditions. A few of my favorite sections include:Medical Skills you will want to learn - This section had a practical list of things to learn such as the basics in taking vital signs, learning how to splint, identify certain diseases, as well as suggestions on how to treat these. If you are considering the medical needs of you, your family and your community in disaster scenarios without doctor care, then this list will point you in the right direction to learn and add to your preparations.Medical Supplies List - I really like lists - and this is a very good one. These are items to keep on hand for these scenarios...what's more is also breaks the list out for what your preparedness plans are...individual, family, community, etc.Stockpiling Medications - Very practical information about medications, their expiration dates, suggestions for having some available in possible coming events, and alternatives.Treating Diseases, Illnesses, and Conditions - Really the majority of the book covers this in detail, but what I like in particular is that Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy cover how to identify these, immediate treatments, suggestions for recovery or explaining the very real dangers involved. I also really like the alternative and natural applications that can be used if there is not doctor or conventional medicines available...now we need to learn to forage and garden for some of these. Actually they have a website that has some very useful information there as well. doomandbloom dot netSean at the Survival Prep Storesurvivalprepstore dot com

Second favorite thing to read...
The book has a wealth of knowledge for those aligned with the subjects. Almost every prepper/survival/why not website I have "Googled" mentioned this book. I'm halfway thru it, and I'm impressed with the info about herbal remedies. It does very well to bring your mind from modern medicine into a thought regarding natural relief for the most common of ailments. One thing that I can say about the book is that a good protion of the first couple chapters is common sense. I was a Combat Life Saver in the Army and I believe a lot of what is said is obvious, but it will be different for someone who is a noob. After reading a good portion of this book I know what other areas of medicine (books) I need to catch up on; that includes natural remedies for sprains, sinus infections, digestive issues, and general illnesses. It also refers to sutures and other semi advanced skills that should be looked at as well. I've searched several websites and articles but this book is the best in recommending medical supplies to have on hand, PERIOD.I feel much more confident if SHTF or WORL or whatever those other random letters mean, I won't be in as bad of a position as most.

Hard Topic
It must be hard to write on a topic like this to a layman like me who has no idea how to practice medicine. In some ways this book was helpful, as the chapter on suturing was, as horrifying as it would be to have to perform this on a wide awake patient. Which by the way the author did not touch on how to handle an awake patient in this situation or any type of general anesthesia help. There was also quite a bit on types of oils & herbs to use although there was no direction on mixing these as I suppose its up to the reader to buy a herbal medical book.I was a little surprised on the chapter about hepatitis that it will eventually heal itself, I didn't know that and will have to check with my own doc. But the authors were honest in saying that someone who has a heart attack without access to a hospital probably won't survive, even with CPR.I'd guess the hardest part about writing this type of book is that so many injuries & illnesses require medicine which most of us can't access. My doctor would certainly not write a prescription for meds I don't need for a "just in case" scenario, or triple my normal dosage just because I'm a prepper. He'd probably think I was nuts. What I learned is that without any type of medical training I wouldn't be much useful in a medical emergency beyond what experience I already have, but I'll toss this in my emergency bag anyway.

Already loving this book!
Straight-forward book that includes great information on the necessary supplies and the how-to's of survival-mode medical care. It would work well for the layperson as well as someone with a medical background. There are recommendations for big and large budgets, which is nice because medical supplies can get pretty expensive. I have purchased many books on this subject and they have always diappointed. This is a great resource and worth the money.

Informative and easy to understand.
I'm an EMT-I99 from very rural countryside with some addition education in areas like pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomy/physiology so I found this book to be on the simple side, but that is great if you have little to no medial training (or to supplement areas you're lacking training). Some of the things it addresses are the treatment acute and chronic health problems, how to use herbs for treatment of medical conditions (you should already know what herbs are what, and how to use them, this mostly just tells you what conditions they can be used for), using meds after they've expired, and antibiotic use (including the use of fish antibiotics). Good reference material for any time you might find yourself on your own without medical help (short-term or long-term). It pretty much sticks with what conditions you have a chance of treating and the authors aren't shy about stating when there is a poor prognosis for life-threats without advanced medical care. I personally will add this to my library to be cross referenced with other books I've collected, however, It could suffice as a stand alone book if it needed too. If you buy only one medical book of this genre, buy this one.

Prepper essential reading
Brilliant medical advice book, simple enough language for even the average person to understand and though originally from the US market sensible enough for the UK too.

Excellent Resource
If you are concerned with emergency preparedness or are curious about the prepper lifestyle, this is a great book for you. The work is clearly meant for disaster and emergency use with excellent layout, descriptions, and details. The appendix and index are excellent and easy to use or refer to. Great sections specifically targetted at the prep community give information of what to before AND after an event.I had this book recommended to me and am very happy I took the advice to check it out. Excellent reference book for home and emergency care.I have seen a lot of books trying to be what this book is. I highly recommend it.

Overall nice book, but found it too short in some contents.
Survival Medicine Handbook (SMH) is an easy understandable prepper book who covers the controversial topic of health care in a SHTF scenario when you CANNOT reach modern day's medicine support. The book is divided in section and cover many diseases and health problems that any prepper will probably see in case of SHTF. For every diesease, you will find some pages of text about how to prevent - how to treat the said disease, plus some nice information about alternative medicine with essential oils and plants. I found this book very valuable for the only reason it fill the gap between medical specialists and the average joe; and the results is not bad. But there are some cons. The SMH is a nice book for prepper, but honestly I would suggest NOT to rely only on this book alone for your health care information needs in a SHTF scenario. SMH will surely provide you with tons of very valuable information, especially the ones about alternative medicine, BUT it doesn't contain info about many less-likely diseases (like f.e. specific threatment for plague) nor provide deeply info about the common diseases like, for example, reccomended antibiotics for a given disease and general dosage of that antibiotic. If you think these are not useful info when SHTF, imagine you being able to access to some antibiotics and unable to know the right dosage or use. These kind of info might kill or safe your loved ones. I'm not much disappointed because I already knew a 330 pages book could never contain many advanced information, but again I find useful to buy some additional more-advanced book after this. For that matter, I suggest to buy this book with some advanced medical giudes, like The Merck Manual (a 3700 pages medicine book), to be able to know everything about your family's diseases if needed (including modern days medicine threatment like antibiotics dosage or even more deeply specs), while still being able to access to some alternative and EASY info (via this book). Considering this, I highy suggest this book as an health care resource in case of SHTF, with or without additional medicine books.
