Great idea, great customer service
First one ordered didn't even make it to the door! 2nd one arrived in nearly decimated box (crushed bottom, tape splitting) but seemed otherwise to be intact. We tried to gauge moisture, testing both soil and plain tap water. NOTHING registered on the meter. We tried to test PH in know solution (5% acidity white vinegar) and NOTHING registered. In short, this was a failed experiment all the way around. Since then Iโve been contacted by their customer service and refunded fully. And the moisture meter started working all of a sudden so it gained another star from my original assessment. **Iโve had it stuck into a plant for weeks now and the meter dances upwards when I actively water the plant. The light meter registers sunlight. So itโs not completely non-functioning in those areas of testing.** UPDATE-I received a full refund from them for the item. So they get 5 stars for making things right. The product needs some revamping to better performance but itโs functional.

Works well for the price range
Yes, the device is somewhat fragile, but it's a measuring device, not a digging stick. If you don't force it into the ground by just leaning on it when it starts to require more force, you won't break it. If you need to stick it into hard ground, then use some sort of digging tool to break up the ground and then insert the instrument into the softened ground. Use common sense, people. I found that the device did a very good job measuring moisture, from showing that dry, sandy soil was dry, to garden soil that was somewhat damp, and lawn soil that was pretty sopping wet. The device measured these accurately. (Note that the directions specifically state that the device should not be used in liquids--so those people who reviewed this device by sticking it in water and saying it doesn't work were not making a valid test case for this device. Again, read the directions and use some common sense.) The pH measurements also seemed to work pretty well. The lawn measured slightly acidic as expected, and the garden soil measured slightly base--which explained why our vegetable plants were getting fungi on them so easily. It would be nicer if the pH readings were spread over a wider range. That is, don't have a pH range of 8 to 3.5 (that's really acidic soil, isn't it??), but perhaps go from 8.5 to 5.5 with more sensitivity right around 7. The light meter is probably the most random, as the light level depends a lot on the angle of the solar cell to the light source. Overall, I like this meter, as it measures soil moisture accurately, and does a good enough job on acidity. Just don't use it as a digging tool and don't immerse it in water!

Works Great For Cactus Drowners
I have Cacti and I am so afraid of Root Rot and on top of that I live in extreme heat that will burn the plant so it has to bee covered so it will not get irreversible sun scorch. So it very troublesome monitoring the Cacti and is like a full time job if you do not have a shade covering like an awning and it is 115 degrees outside. Everyone tells you a different story as to how much water they give their plant and you just don't know what is best because it all becomes mixed up and you just do the best you can so you don't kill the plant trying to care for it. So this tool makes it a whole lot easier because it has Moisture, and Light, and PH dials but it is actually a switch for each one you want to test and they all work just fine. Just be sure to wipe it off after each plant you test and it should work perfectly fine for testing these three things I listed. I really like the light test because I have to cover mine in the extreme heat from the sun beating down on them so I worry if they are getting enough light and they are. It is so hot here that the plants drink their water in there planters even though they are covered around 11 am because at that point the skin starts to burn on the leaves and flesh of the cacti and oleander I am growing that I just purchased from the Nursery in the last month. Not a good time to buy plants but I am into now and don't really have a choice If I want to keep my plants from dying in this heat. So I am satisfied with this product completely and I don't think I can do any better job than what I am doing to produce happy plants. They are not rotting, wilting or burning or thristy or drowning. Thanks for a good product.

It Works...Kinda
It does indeed work. I tested my soil PH next to a $5000 lab tester. It literally was within a half point of each other. However that was after compacting the soil a bit to get good contact. My soil is always pretty loose and well drained due to vigorous use of Earthworms and pine mulch. I like lots of oxygen and room for roots to grow. So make sure if you have loose, well drained soil, to compact the sample area. Otherwise the meter will jump back and forth all over the place tying to get a good reading. You get what you pay for so people expecting this tool to be Lab Accurate are asking for a bit much. However, with a little knowhow, you can definitely get some good results. Update: After using it for 2 weeks now, I have come to find my initial assessment was incorrect...Kinda. So while the moisture meter is pretty active, as well as the light meter, although not entirely accurate are still a pretty good measure. However the PH is another story entirely. Which is a problem because this is the reason for the meter in the first place. I tested my soil and it came up to about 7.3, which made sense being my homemade compost is about 8.0 and the CoCo coir i use is about 6.0. This account for about 75-80% of my soil mix. I test it in a Lab as stated before. Used this portable meter on my outside container Garden since I now grow blueberries which needs a PH of about 4.5-5.5. The meter sure enough read about 7. So I used my acidifier to bring the PH in range. Tested my soil again this meter did not budge. I thought that to be odd being have done specific calculations with my acidifier to bring the PH down. took a sample to the LAB abd indeed my PH was about a 5.2. The PH on the meter DOES NOT WORK! Bummer. You get what you pay for. Returning. Hope this helps.

Updated review: Works great!
Original review: The light meter doesn't work at all unless you touch it to the light bulb, and even then, it still registers as being very dim. The moisture part works, and the pH part seems to work as well, but I got this specifically for the light and moisture readers. Disappointed in this, but I will buy one locally that works. UPDATE: Customer service saw this review and emailed me immediately offering a refund or a replacement. Honestly, it was such a nice email that I thought it may be spam, so I ignored it. The same friendly woman emailed me again a couple days later stating that customers often think the email is a scam, but she was genuine. She again offered a refund or replacement, and I chose a replacement. The replacement arrived 2 days later and works great! I would confidently recommend this seller to anyone based on the customer service alone.

Wish they both worked.
I would like a refund. When I first asked for a replacement they did not charge me extra as long as I return the first one by Jan 31st. Not bad. The problem is the meters literally stays in the same spot as photographed. Even after watering no difference was seen with each of my plants. I moved the probes to several different spots to see if it's just sensitive. But no. As I put in the request to return the second meter, no refund was offered. Not sure if I will receive that till after I mail them back? I will say they were very prompt to send me the second meter the following day. Also the second (the one on the right in the photograph) meter they sent had dirt all over and scratchs on the right probe as seen in the photo. Which makes me believe this was probably a used one that didn't work and was sent back to them. So I'm assuming they sent me a second broken one to begin with. Ugh* I really wanted to use this.

Update!๐
Worthless junk. PH reads the same no matter what soil you place it in? Flip the switch to moisture while in the same soil and readings do not change? Only 1 of the 3 that seem to read correctly is the light meter. Sadly the only one of the 3 I did not need. I bought this to measure PH for the different plants separated out in my elevated 10 X 10 garden. All of the separated portions read the same. Which it starts out between 7 to 8 on the scale. And does not vary no matter what soil you check. Maybe just a bad unit? Should have gone the extra money for a working PH tester. As I NEED to see the real PH balance in each of my different plant types. Tjhey all can not be 7.2 in every container or every part of my yard which also all read the same..... Update. 7 3 19. Customer service for this seller is awesome. After having a bad experience with the 1st product. I just posted a review and threw it in a junk drawer. Customer service on their own contacted me. Asking if I wanted a refund. I told them I just wanted a working product. Well I got BOTH shortly thereafter. The product works this time. Wish all customer service would follow this company service policies.

Doesn't accurately read pH
The moisture reader works great and has saved several of my plants from overwatering. Before getting this reader, I'd feel the top 2 inches of soil and it felt dry so I'd water, when realistically it wasnt dried out enough at the bottom the the pot. But this reader has helped avoid overwatering. The pH reader hasn't ever worked right (which is why I gave a 2 for accuracy) but I wasnt too worried about it and forgot to test it again until now, when my plant is having some other issues aside from watering. I just tried to measure pH again for the first time since I first got it and it reads the same for all plants and at all levels of soil in the pots. So if you're needing an instrument for pH readings, then this instrument isn't for you.

Packaging and instructions in Chinese?
This product came in packaging that was in Chinese. It would have been nice to know beforehand. It would be nice to know how to use it. The light meter and ph meter don't seem to work well... This product was not worth the price or the long delivery.

pH is not working (same as everyone else)
I bought it purely for the pH, which is my fault, after all the reviews I thought maybe they fixed the issue. And I can't even send it back ๐คฃ - the moisture is moving but not sure if it's accurate, the light isn't working too. I even googled a lot & left it in the soil for 10 mins, nothing changed. Don't waste your money, don't do my mistake, believe in the reviews.
