Great radio for the price. The receiver sensitivity is far better than I expected!
PROS: Covers 4 bands (would be nice if it did 220Mhz VHF band). Receiver has excellent sensitivity on all bands. Programming supported in CHIRP, making it easy to backup, update, and restore memory configuration. Excellent TX power select in 4 steps.Cons: You will need an antenna switch of some sort to be able to handle the spread as you probably wont be able to find or make an antenna that can do all four bands well enough and antenna switches dont work very well on 70cm band. Really needs two antenna connectors! One for 10m/6m and other for 2m/70cm.Noticed some glitches when using my Astron power supply as it doesnt shut off the power quickly but rather slowly ramps down to zero. This seems to randomly corrupt memory in the TH-9800D and I have had to do a factory reset on it a couple times. This can be worked around by turning off the radio before shutting down the power supply so I didn't deduct any stars for this issue as normal mobile operation would not affect it like this unless you run the vehicle battery completely dead over the winter or something.

Great Radio for the Money
In HAM radio, the sky is the limit for what you can spend on equipment. This TYT is pretty much a carbon copy of a Yeasu FT-9800 I think. You can even use the same programming cable. Programming, while a little quirky was pretty easy once I got used to the layout.I mostly use this radio for 2 meter and 70 centimeter because there's not too much 10 meter activity going on where I am.When connecting to my 2 meter tuned J-pole antenna, I was able to crank out a nearly true 50 watts off of this little guy. The mountain hardware it comes with for a car/truck is pretty basic, so be prepared to find something else when you get your. The power cable it came with was a fused stripped ~10AWG positive and negative leads. So you may need to buy adapter for your setup. The hand-held receiver works quite well and the sound is pretty good too. No issues there. Supposedly you can use this as cross-band repeater, but I haven't tried that yet.

Interesante equipo

Good quad band radio for the $$
This is a good radio. I have a homemade dipole antenna (hung from a tree) and I'm getting good reception on UHF simplex frequencies up to 20 miles. I think this is a great radio for US licensed Technician operators because it includes all of the bands that Technicians have voice priveledges. I dont think it does SSB, so that might be a detractor foe the 6 and 1o meter bands. Overall, good radio.

I have had 2
I like the Radio, but to program it with Chirp is a has al.The radio files are DAT files and you can't cross program with chirp.I had to copy from radio to chirp, change or all to it and up load the same file to get it in radio. Not a fan of their program. I can't print from their programing software on printer even tho it has a print function. It comes up blank. May be me, but can't get it to print out. Just blank pages. Out put watts is very close to advertised within a few watts.Just got radio so still learning. Just the first thing I didn't like about it. Still playing with it. Up date..I have had two of them now, First one had two days started beeping would not stop. Got a replacement and had it two and half weeks and it stopped transmitting. Good radio when it works.

Clunky Software
I've had this radio in my truck for a little over two years, it is currently locked to the bands I'm licensed for, but fully unlocking it is really simple and it works really well for monitoring the local EMS or CB traffic. Some issues that I have with it is that 1) it doesn't support channel groups which makes seeking through channels cumbersome (I have multiple EMS channels, weather presets and repeater channels), 2) it scans channels more quickly then I like--many times when there are channels with heavy traffic and it will be missed because it's skipping through channels so quickly--and to my knowledge there is no way to adjust the scan speed, 3) the software is slow, somewhat clunky and some of the options from the front panel are missing in the software, and 4) only the Left side of the radio has full quad band support and imo the Right side seems to have lower sensitivity.

I enjoyed the first one so much.... well you guessed it!
The first one, tree years ago was but in my "go bag", mounted to a plastic cutting board, with a ZLP audio interface and 15Ah LiFePO4 battery. Works great!Today, this one is in my car, in the armrest; running with its own 10Ah LiFePO4 battery!Out off sight, out of mind!73

Great price, great radio!
Not a big fan of anything not made by the big 3 and certainly don’t believe most reviews written about this equipment. Has not had the power off since purchase 6 months ago with not one issue. Works exactly as advertised.
