I wanted an infrared transmitter for the sole purpose of watching TV at home. I did not want a proprietary system, as I wanted to use readily-available generic headphones that are cheap enough to throw away. The cheaper headphones are usually marketed as being suitable to replace car headphones. This unit is made for an automobile, so there is a problem. It does not come with a power supply (since it would normally be driven off the car's electrical system). It requires 12 volts. Most of us thrifty people probably have a good supply of the small power supplies in our junk box from previous electronics gear. Searching through my box, I found three or four 9-volt models, but no 12 volt models. However, checking the 9-volt supplies with a meter revealed that every single one of them put out between 12-13 volts (this does not mean YOURS will). All that is necessary is to splice the proper connector onto your (overvolted) 9-volt power supply or a 12-volt one (observing correct polarity, of course!). In my case, I did not know if this would work, and I did not want to cut the connector off the supplied one in case I needed to return the unit. I rummaged around and found the same connector on a different power supply, cut that one off, and used that. Now that you know this actually works, you might take a chance on cutting off the connector on the supplied cable...BUT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG. For example, if you just happen to get a defective transmitter, you will then be unable to return it. I disavow any responsibility for what what happens or whatever losses you may incur. Of course, this rig needs headphones to work. The ones I got were the XO Vision IR620 Universal IR Infrared Wireless Foldable Headphones for In-Car TV, DVD, & Video Listening . These work perfectly, and they are highly-rated with a lot of reviews. They are so cheap (a fast-food meal for two), it should be no problem to replace them if/when they break. Mine works great for maybe half the price of a designed-for-home unit. Since the transmitters usually last just about forever, the only expense going forward should be the occasional replacement of a (very cheap) headphone.

Works good. We use it so our 4 kids can watch a movie on one tablet on a road trip. I used my headphones that came with our chevy traverse they work great. Just a tip make sure you dont have the unit covered or somthing directly in front of the unit that would block the signal and it will work perfectly. My only complaint would be I wish the power was from a usb source which would be more convenient than the 12v cigarette source. Over all a good product.

This is nearly perfect, functionally wise, this is perfect, the kit comes with everything you need to transform any audio or video device to have wireless audio. Used this in the car with the iPad so the kids can share and use wireless headphones. Doesn't work. Even standing in front of directly in front 2 feet away, there is static and interference. Don't waste your money!

I ordered this to use with my iPad mini and it works with our GM OEM wireless headphones. However, there are two issues: 1. Battery compartment is useless; no metal contacts. So it has to run off the 12V cigarette adapter. 2. There is a very loud buzzing or humming that comes through, potentially from the vehicle. I'm going to do some testing and will post another review once I figure out what is causing it.

the power cord was to short and did not seat properly in the back of the unit so we have to wiggle it sometimes to get it to stay on. Other than that the unit works well with the headsets and keeps the kids quiet on travels.

I installed this in our RV so that the wife and I could listen to our own music on the speakers while the kids were able to watch movies on the overhead TV while in transit. We'll grab their wireless headphones out of the minivan and bring them with us in the RV; it's nice that the IR transmitter frequency (in this product's case there are two frequencies that you can select) is standard. It keeps them quiet and us happy! So far so good. If you experience any static or audio channel dropouts make sure that the audio cable is firmly seated in its port.

Works great. Installed in my RV so grandkids could watch movies in silence. Bought a separate 12v power supply to power Melodeez. The ps plugs into a 120v plug powered by an inverter so I don't have to run generator while driving. Bought 4 wireless headsets to run off of this Melodeez transmitter.

I already had one of these with 3 pairs of headphones to keep the kids quiet during long trips. Works so good I bought a second one for the other vehicle. Highly recommend.
