Several reviews mentioned this tool seemed too short to open a robusto all the way through. How long is it?

The reviewers that have stated the PerfecDraw is too short to open a robusto all the way through have probably not watched or paid attention to the video instructions for use. The PerfecDraw was specifically designed to handle up to a Churchill size cigar (7") or even a double corona (7.5"). A robusto is typically only 5" long. The actual shaft of the PerfecDraw that can be inserted into the cigar is 4". The video instructions show to check the "cold draw" of your cigar before you light it up. If the draw is not open to EXACTLY your ideal preference (could be plugged, tight, snug or even "acceptable"), use the PerfecDraw to adjust or fine-tune the draw until it's absolutely ideal for your personal preference of draw resistance or openness. The vast majority of the time you'll only need to use the PerfecDraw within the first one inch of the head of the cigar. Sometimes you'll extend the PerfecDraw all the way to the full depth from the head end of the cigar. On very rare occasions the cigar is tight enough that you need to enter the cigar from the foot end to loosen the draw. The whole idea behind the design was to make the PerfecDraw extremely convenient to take with you anywhere, and to be able to easily fit into any cigar tool kit, along with your cutter, lighter, etc. Also, a very important consideration is protection from having the PerfecDraw go through the side of the cigar (through the wrapper). The longer the shaft, and the deeper you push the shaft down the center of your cigar, the more potential there is for the shaft to go off-center without realizing it -- resulting in poking through the side of the cigar. At 4" length, it is very easy to prevent this from happening, even on a more narrow ring gauge stick. Just be sure to watch the instructional video at the PerfecDraw website prior to use. Why does the image show a cigar being drilled into through the side? Won’t that let smoke out the side of the cigar?

I assume you're speaking of the photo of the PerfecDraw twisted into the very short nub of a cigar. That is called "nubbing" a cigar. Most cigar smokers discard the cigar when they've smoked it down to "the nub". Many cigars acquire a very strong, unacceptable taste by the time they're smoked down that short. And certainly it becomes difficult or even impossible to hold the nub when it's that short. So you just discard the nub. But sometimes that cigar is just so tasty that you want to smoke every little bit of it. So you use something called a "nubber" to poke into the side of the cigar (the nub) to hold the cigar instead of holding it with your fingers. When using the PerfecDraw to adjust the draw of a cigar, yes, you rotate it into the cigar and pull it straight out, which removes small bits of tobacco. This is not what you do when using the PerfecDraw as a nubber. You simply twist the PerfecDraw into the cigar, but you don't pull it out (until you're done smoking the nub). The longitudinal channels in the PerfecDraw "grab" onto the tobacco and prevent the nub from rotating around the PerfecDraw, and the PerfecDraw itself seals the hole. Can this replace the cutter?

The PerfecDraw could possibly replace a cutter, but by no means was it designed for that, nor would we recommend using it like that. The intent is to either cut or punch the end of your cigar. Then check the "cold draw". If needed, then use the PerfecDraw. I would very strongly suggest that you go to the PerfecDraw site to watch the videos before you buy. Awesome

I’ve been waiting 30 years for a tool like this. Absolutely brilliant. My favourite AB Robustos have got very woody lately but I love the tobacco and this is an instant fix. Every cigar smoker should have one.

5-10% increased airflow for each pull

I’ve been using tweezers to open up the draw on many Cuban cigars as they often come too tight or overstuffed with tabaco. It worked decently up until it got to the 2/3 of the cigar when the draw would be too lose and provide no resistance. I’m a huge fan of the figurado vitolas so using tweezers would disfigure the head of my pyramides/ belicosos.The perfect draw allows you to control where you pull the tobacco from and maintain the integrity of the over all cigar. In my opinion, each pull is about a 5-10% increase in airflow. One technique I use on pyramides/ belicosos Is a 2:1 ration- two from the foot of the cigar and one from the head. That usually gives me a perfect draw throughout the cigar. It’s not only about saving money on dense cigars but also customizing draw and smoke on your favorites. I feel that I’ve been able to tap into different flavors with the improved airflow.

A must-have for a regular cigar smoker

This represents great value when you consider the price is approximately that of a premium Cuban cigar. If it gets used once, it's paid for itself. This has rescued about 4 cigars in the 9 or so months I've had it. I recently had a plugged Cohiba Robusto, and I was on a beach miles away from where I had left this little device in my hotel room - I kicked myself for leaving it there.

You will never have to throw a cigar away ever again!

If you smoke Cuban cigars even semi-regularly you'll know all about problems with a tight draw, especially when smoking the smaller ring gauge cigars. I recently bought a handful of cigars with an average ring gauge of 42 and every single one of them would have been like trying to suck liquid cement through a straw, absolutely un-smokable. After using the PerfecDraw I was able to open up the draw on each of them in small increments until I got the result I was looking for. Since cigars are so expensive in the UK, I only needed to save 2-3 before this little tool had paid for itself.With this precision tool, you will never have to settle for an "acceptable" draw ever again. As far as I'm concerned this tool is just as essential as a lighter or a cutter!

A very useful tool for the cigar smoker.

As I write this, I'm enjoying a Rocky Patel The Edge Sumatra Torpedo that would have been a loss if not for the PerfecDraw. The cigar started out with a decent draw, but about 1/3 of the way in it became a chore to enjoy as well as keep lit as the draw tightened up significantly. I twisted the PerfecDraw into the head to the depth of the cutters and removed a large plug of swollen tobacco. The plug was of similar diameter as the tool and about 3/4" long. The draw was immediately relaxed, even better than when first lit, and my session resumed. There was no adverse change to the structure of the cigar, the only visual clue being a small tobacco tag from the head (visible in photo) where the tool pulled out the plug. I'm now using the PerfecDraw as a nubber as I've about reached the end of this cigar. That'll add about 10 more minutes to the life of this cigar as I can comfortably finish it to the very end.This tool is a great addition to my smoking accouterments. It's very well designed and manufactured and does what it's claimed to do. I'll be buying more for gifts.

Excellent produit! Évidemment le prix fait bondir pour un "si petit gadget" mais ceux qui ont été confronté à un cigare qui ne tire pas et se sont battus avec un pic à brochette (on fait avec les moyens du bord...) le diront: il vaut largement son prix! Le produit est de très bonne facture et fonctionne à merveille, je ne regrette vraiment pas mon achat et ne peux que vous le recommander.
