Learning Resources Human Anatomy Model Brain

It's quite small, and a few of the holes aren't quite drilled all the way and have to be mashed into place, but for those of us who can't afford a $1,500.00 SOMSO brain, this is a godsend! Attached is a photo of all of the structures. I wish they made a life sized version, but otherwise this is the most detailed articular model I can find.

The detail is really amazing for the size and cost. It even has the ventricles, corpus callosum, and hippocampus as separate pieces. It shows the different areas of the brain very clearly. I teach A&P at the college level and have one of these in my office, which saves a trip to the lab when students stop by with questions. I can even use it during lecture to show how the brain is put together in a general way. I recommend it to my students to help them learn the anatomy, since it fits well with a limited budget. A few points to consider: 1) It is very difficult to put together the first time. You need to be gentle but firm to get the pieces to fit right. They don't need to be forced, just coaxed. It takes a decent understanding of the brain to put it together correctly, which is why it is good for students. They have to work at it, which helps them remember it better. Once put together, the pieces fit snugly and will stay together. 2) It is detailed and accurate, but definitely not a lab quality brain, which tends to cost several hundred dollars. Part of the learning process can involve using markers to color in additional structures if necessary. 3) Believe the age recommendation (8+). Younger children would probably get very frustrated with it, and even the older ones might also. I wouldn't necessarily consider it a toy. 4) It's pretty durable, but the tiny pegs that hold it together would definitely break if forced too hard. 5) It is small, just as specified in the description. The total height is about 9 inches, which includes the base the model stands on, the brain stem, and cerebrum.

Yes it is small. Yes you need someone with strong hands to get some of the pieces on (which kind of deters dissecting it in the future to revisit the parts). And yes the instructions are only pictures which aren't all that helpful but I liked to think of it as a puzzle anyway in which case you aren't really supposed to have directions. But ultimately I feel it was a great starting place for teaching my five year old about the brain. She spontaneously talked about her feelings in reference to her amygdala. It was fun to put it together with her and will be a great learning tool for brain basics beyond the four lobes which is all her last "model" taught. Plus it is a cute little model to have on the desk and totally affordable given the real deals (full size, multi-part, medical models) cost about a grand.

A great manipulative to go with a human anatomy lesson. These models really help to solidify the concept. Yes it is tiny, so what. As a homeschool mom, I don't want a bunch of giant models taking up room when I am not using them.

I don't like it- I thought it'd be bigger but it's very small. It doesn't really help you gain any knowledge of the brain and it's actually hard to put it together and undo it- it seems like it's made more for decoration than learning or playing. Also it has some funky extra piece which doesn't even fit the model. And one of the ends to the brain was loose which made it hard for me to put together. hrmph it doesn't show the limbic system- hypothalmus, hippocampus or anything. It only has the cerebellum which isn't very... interesting unlike other structures in the brain.

Based on some of the other reviews (which I read after ordering) I didn't have high hopes for this brain model, but it contained all of the pieces, is an excellent learning aid for my class, and holds up pretty well to taking it apart and putting back together. The pegs used to hold the pieces together work pretty well at holding everything together but also holding up to repeated dis- and reassembly. It does take a few minutes to figure out how to assemble it the first time, but once you have done it a couple times its much easier. It also balances reasonably well on the stand. I doubt that its possible to find a better educational brain model in this price range.

I very rarely post one-star reviews, but this product was just that bad. It is so poorly manufactured that you can't get the parts together, and if you do manage to get it together it barely fits so you have to hold it together. Since this was a purchase I had hoped to use with the third graders I work with the inability to manipulate it without it falling apart renders it completely useless. If you want to glue everything together and never take it apart it MIGHT work, but even then most of the rubber pegs are so out of place and bent that you can't get it together even with glue. Also, the brain is SOOOOO small. Absolutely useless and a complete waste of money. Oh, and if you're hoping the instructions will help, you'll be sadly mistaken. Pictures-only instructions that do very little to help.

My daughter wants to be a brain surgeon when she grows up, so I figured I should look for some fun resources for her to start learning with for her 10th birthday. She was super excited when she opened this, and she’s taken it apart and put it together many times now. Her little sister and older brother have also gotten in on the action because who can resist a model like this that can be taken apart and put back together? I sadly have no interest in ever doing any brain surgery myself, but I’ve even enjoyed the model and have found myself assembling it when the kids have left it out. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone desiring to use it as part of their homeschool or anyone raising a future brain surgeon... or anyone who just wants to learn more about the brain for the fun of it and enjoys hands on learning the most.

It’s a good way of teaching parts of the brain for students. The size of the brain is of your palm so the inside materials are even smaller. Need to be careful when opening and re assembling the brain parts as using it over and over made it break. Not recommend for very small kids as it’s not a toy.

Great little model. It's about the size of a hardball, but all the pieces fit together very nicely. It is an ideal size to sit unobtrusively on your desk, but when you read that something is happening in a particular section of the brain, you can correlate the legend with the part and see visually in 3D just how that part relates to the rest of the brain.

Astoundingly good for the price and scale. When you dissemble / Assemble it gives you a detailed look at the brain, its internal shapes and major structures. For me I wanted a look at the inner core and the ventricles and connective structures, and as far as I can tell seems pretty good. Very nicely you can assemble the ventricles separately to get a good idea of their overall and very complex shape. There are plenty of neurological books with structures sectional maps and so on but for the brain they are no substitute for solid physical 3D models. My only real complaint is that they should do a bigger and even better one for say £100. The tiny size does make some details difficult to see or show - like the cerebellum, or the optic nerves through to the visual cortex, that would be asking an awful lot of such a small model. Recommended.
