I bought this coffee percolator twice. The 1st time I sent it back because, the ad was misleading. It says 12 cups. When we think of a cup, they are 8 ounces. This seller meant to say 12, 5oz portions. I pointed the error out to them and got a very nice and very quick answer that explained their mistake and it will be corrected. I'm sure there are many that are mismarked and once they are gone, the wording of the ad will be corrected. This percolator makes the best coffee I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It has a glass knob and an extra one in case the original one breaks. Here's a tip to help them not break. When pouring coffee or other hot liquids from the pot, be careful to NOT tip the pot so far that the hot liquid hits the glass knob. The knob is much cooler than the really hot liquid and that temperature difference can cause the knob to break. Another thing to be aware of is something another person commented on is the 3 tiny holes along one side of the lid. They are there to prevent pressure build up from happening and the top popping off. Be sure position those holes even with the handle. If you position them over the spout, you have a good chance of spilling hot liquids on places that are not where you want that pipping hot coffee to go. This has a heating base that you just lift the pot off of to pour your drink, then set it back on that plate to keep your hot beverage hot. It has a light that lets you know when you're drink is ready. It also has an off / on switch. It does not have an automatic shut off, but I believe it has overheat protection and that may shut it down if you forget it and allow it to go dry. I've had 5 pots of coffee from this percolator without any problems. While I was trying to find a percolator that met my expectations at a good price, I bought a different one that caught fire. Another that advertised as having a clear glass knob. It has a black plastic knob and an odd color in the bottom of the pot. I decided this one does the best for me. I'm glad, I gave it a second chance.

My Hamilton Beach percolator died after almost 2 years. This seems to be the life span for most coffee brewers of any style. Sad, but I've come to accept it. Hamilton Beach discontinued the model I had so I needed to look for another one. This one caught my eye because it has the beautiful retro look that I love. Very simple and classic. I was worried that it was a re-branded version of the Bialetti model that came out a few years ago that was just awful. If this is the same parent company, they made some definite improvements. Yes, the perk knob is GLASS. It's a thicker glass so I can see why people would think it might be plastic. You want a heavier glass so it doesn't break as easily. Still, because it is glass and the lid pulls off instead of twists off like other percolator, I recommend letting the pot cool completely before yanking on the glass top to remove the lid. Coffee snobs always say that percolators make the worst coffee. Coffee, like anything, is a matter of taste. It also depends on how you use the brew method of your choice. The biggest gripe is percolators "boil the coffee". This can certainly be true if using a stovetop percolator and you're not paying attention and have the heat up too high. It was also true of vintage percolators which - although nice to look at - had a much higher temperature thermostat. According to most coffee "experts", coffee should be brewed at between 197F and 205F. Every time I get a new percolator I take the temp of the water. This registered at 203F. Perfect. If you complain this makes "lukewarm" coffee, than you should get a stovetop model where you control the temp. The makers of this percolator set it within the proper range so as not to over extract the coffee and make a burnt/bitter cup. You'll really want to buy whole bean coffee and grind it to a coarse grind using a burr grinder.. not a blade grinder. I bought an inexpensive Cuisinart one a few months back and it does a great job. If you buy pre-ground coffee, not only is it far less fresh (diminishing the taste) but it is ground for drip brewers that pass the water through much faster - when a percolator brews more slowly. You'll end up with something that tastes a bit like battery acid. But then again, some people love it. It's a matter of taste. Because this has a bit longer brew cycle than my Hamilton Beach did - 6 minutes once it started perking for 4 cups (brew time is usually 6-8 minutes for a stovetop model depending on taste), I adjusted the coarseness setting on my burr grinder to make it one setting more coarse to compensate for the longer brew time. Worked great. Seriously, get a decent burr grinder and experiment with grind size. It gives you a lot more control over the flavor of your coffee. Use a paper filer. Always. Again, it's up to your taste and some die hard fans refuse to use a filter. More power to them. A good paper filter (especially the wrap/envelope style) not only keep all the grounds in the basket, but make for a smoother cup of coffee. This is true of all brew methods. It's my recommendation. I get the wrap filters at any local grocery store. My only complaint is the plug. It doesn't use a standard percolator plug. The part that goes into the base of the unit is like the female end of a typical outlet rather than the rounder plugs of most percolators. It's also made of heavy rubber. What this means is it's harder to get on and off the pot... and when you have to remove the plug after each use for cleaning, I worry it will wear down in time. Maybe not. Still, I would have preferred a traditional hard plastic connector that easily slid on and off the pot. It made a very smooth cup of coffee this morning. Overall I'm very impressed. Brews well and is quite nice to look at - and satisfying to watch brew (any percolator I use MUST have the glass knob.. I'll never tire of watching the water percolator in the bubble). The only thing yet to determine is how long it will actually last. Fingers crossed it lasts me a long time, because so far I really love this coffee pot!

Just arrived and made the most delicious cup of coffee I've had in a very long time. I love percolated coffee, there's nothing else quite like it, and when done properly it is simply the best! I bought a very expensive Farberware one, but it is too big, and I prefer this 10 cup model. So this percolator is stainless steel including the perc basket. I bought medium roast premium whole bean coffee and ground it in a Mueller burr grinder on setting #13 (coarse). Filled the basket w/ground coffee to the 4 cup line, filled the pot with water to 4 cup line, set it to perc and had 2 delicious 8 oz cups of coffee in a few minutes. I bought paper liners, but didn't use them. Some people swear by the liners, but I'll experiment a little with and without. It may depend on the coffee beans and/or the grind level whether or not liners are a benefit or not. All in all, at this price point I hope the percolator holds up, but it seems to perform just as advertised. Recommend.

I gave this 4 stars because if you leave it plugged in after it's done perking, it may leak all over your counter. HOWEVER, that being said, I really love how fast this percolator makes a delicious cup of coffee. I make a pot every couple of days. The first cup is nice and hot, then I unplug it and use the microwave to reheat cups later or the next day, so problem solved. The best part though is how fast it is. I think it perks a cup in 6 minutes. My husband is still using the pod coffee maker, and once in awhile I will have a cup from that, and the flavor is so bland after getting used to perked coffee.

I purchased this percolator in February, 2021, but decided to wait until I had brewed several pots of coffee, (actually 100), before I reviewed. Since I use several types and different grinds of coffee to satisfy the drinkers in my household, I use a disc filter with each pot brewed to avoid coffee grounds passing thru the filter basket and into the coffee (I highly recommend filtering.) I frankly don't understand the reviews by some who found the coffee not warm enough or strong enough to their liking. Every pot I brewed was hot, much hotter ( measured +197 F) than any cup of coffee I have brewed with a Keurig single cup coffee maker or drip maker and much stronger (this also depends on how much coffee you use per cup.) It keeps each pot nice and warm after percolation is completed. The Mixpresso has performed flawlessly every time, creating the the familiar percolating sounds and pleasant coffee aroma I remember as a youngster. I have found no single serve coffee maker that can make a cup of coffee as good as this one (excluding espresso machines.) I hand wash after each use. This is made in China, like most other manufacturers small appliances, and exported from Italy to the U.S. I highly recommend. Nov.2, 2021, it's been 9 months since I purchased this coffeemaker and it still makes an excellent cup of coffee, however the "percolation complete" blue LED light no longer works to indicate the coffee is ready. Hope this is not an indicator of other problems to come.

Not happy with this percolator. I was told to double the filter to keep the grounds from going into the coffee. That did not work. Every day, there are lots of grounds in the coffee. I stopped using this percolator. It is not convenient for me as a senior citizen to return to Amazon.

I loved the coffee from this percolator and how hot it was. Over time, the power cord disappeared. I looked for a replacement cord on line. NONE of the cords advertised as fitting “most” percolators (Mixpresso is not mentioned specifically) fit this appliance. I searched over and over, even on Mixpresso web site. NONE of the advertised replacement cords are made to fit this appliance. Note the pins inside the pot (male) are flat like a butter knife, not round. I’m still looking but this is ridiculous. NO cord has a female end with flat/rectangle holes, only round! Every cord I found with “flat holes” had 3 holes, not 2.

So far I only ran the two cycles without coffee as the book said for a new pot, first taste test will be tomorrow. I will be using any and all grind levels so will be finding a tight fitting fine mesh filter like I did for my stovetop perker. Morning update- Much better tasting than my stovetop produces using same coffee and grind level. Also no need to babysit it, just flip the switch on and let it perk. Now to see how well it holds up to my way of doing things. I suspect it will last lots longer than those $50 B&D auto-drip pieces of sensitive garbage could ever dream of. I had a mesh filter but it was too big so I used a snips to cut the plastic ring around the top off after drilling a precision hole for the riser tube, then pushed it down into the basket. It looked a little funny but worked like a sweet dream, nearly ZERO grounds got past. UPDATE- So far so good,still using it. There's something to be said for simplicity. Not using the sensitive electronics in modern auto drip makers has improved my life. My rating of it remains 5 star! UPDATE 2- 5/27/22 Well after 13 months it has already given me far better value than that worthless fancy B&D drip maker with all the bells and whistles did,and,B&D had sent me a replacement which did the same as the first one so this percolator did better than TWO B&Ds. If I don't get around to fully cleaning it it just keeps on working,I am impressed.
