I've had this cd since the summer and I just love it. This is one of those cd's that moves you simply because of the purity of the music. Ms Rogers' voice is one that evokes honest emotion, sometimes the joy of being with a lover on a beautiful day or the pain of losing one that you wanted to be with. It is the perfect accompanying soundtrack to spending a relaxing afternoon.

Carmen is a true artist and deserves her day in the sun.

Let me take a second to introduce you to another beautiful talent. Carmen Rodgers caught my full attention a little over four years ago. I happened to "discover' her music while browsing for new sounds. Sometimes, you find a diamond in the rough. I rest assured that you will love her music because she is a natural talent. Singing since the age of four, she hails from Mississippi but now makes her home in mecca of Dallas, TX. No stranger to great soul talent, Dallas boasts an active roster of soul acts such as DJ Frances Jaye, Project Vibe Radio, Ledisi, Van Hunt, and others. This album was released successfully in 2004 and continues to be very popular in the soul circles. My personal favorites here are "The Way" (short title) and "Love". Sample those first if you are new to Carmen's work. We are anxiously awaiting her new projects to hit the shelves as well. If you like Wayna, Fertile Ground, N'Dambi, or Julie Dexter, then this will be right up your alley. We give "Free" five stars and place it in heavy rotation.DJ Come of Age

In Carmen's world love exists as something to be cherished, remembered and most of all shared. Carmen was able to relay her every word as if we were listening to a narrative novel. So picturesque in its descriptions that you will hang on her every breath. The best thing about this album is the fact that she never professes to be teaching us, to the contrary, she is learning along with the progression of every note.When you listen to this album you are invited to come free of all preconceived notions of what love has been for you and allow yourself to remember the good and bad of past relationships. Let this new-found freedom take your own love to a point of prominence in your life. Masterfully, Carmen has created a world where love is more than the physical; it is all encompassing, complete and without prejudice. Free is not a fairytale of happily ever after but an all too real depiction of loving; you will be so very pleased to be set free.

Dallas-based Carmen Rodgers' CD is pretty damn smokin'! She has a very smooth delivery and voice and some of the best music I've heard in the past 5 years or so. JazzySoulFunkinetics is what I call it. Standout cuts are: The groovy-ass "Ain't No Time", the melancholy "Sea of Lovelessness", the melodic "Dream", the brooding "Missing You", the jazzy "Fallen", the beautiful ballad "Morning", and the Minnie-esque "Just Believe." 2 words, y'all. MUST HAVE!

If you can locate this cd from Carmen Rodgers-Free there is only one word to express EXCELLENT from start to finish the vocals are Real the music is top-notch..I didn't pay import prices but it would have been well worth the cost this is one of the best of the new Neo-Soul artist this year. Do yourself a favor and purchase "Free" you will not be one bit disappointed...

I don't know why this is an import, the album has been released in the US. Regardless, even if you have to pay import prices, the CD is well worth. Carmen has a sweet, sweet voice, the lyrics on every song are insightful and thought provoking, and the music is amazing. This is a well produced CD. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
