Painful to use, so works well!

Great for finding those trigger points and knotted muscles!

Effective, uniform tread for bashing out those knots

This is a great, chunky and solid roller for working out your post-exercise knots and cramps. The tyre-like treads are deeply set and really effective at knobbling out your knotted muscles. I like the uniformity of the tread pattern, too, although I have also been trying out an alternative roller with an alternating pattern around the cylinder (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B011BVLKUU), which might suit others better. That one is marginally gentler than this model, but it's up to the individual if sore equates to a better massage action, or they prefer this ever-so-slightly tougher version. The roller also feels nice and sturdy, and should take a fair bit of hefty floor rolling without wearing or buckling any time soon. It's one of a couple of Fitness Mad products I've tried recently, and it looks to be emerging as a pretty reliable sports brand.

welcome addition to my workout

This foam roller is extra firm, and features a strongly defined tread pattern. Unlike some rollers, this isn't soft or spongy at all, nor does it have a foam core. Using it after my workout, I find it's really good for smoothing out the 'kinks' in my muscles. According to the manufacturer, the firmness and the defined tread means it delivers a deeper tissue massage than a normal softer roller. I have used it to ease tight muscles in upper back and calves, and I think for me it's best used after the workout. I've also used it for upper arm pain (rolling against the wall) and got some relief from that. Less success with feet (plantar fasciitis) but that was a long shot anyway I suppose! It's otherwise a very welcome addition to my home-gym.

IF IT'S HURTING IT'S WORKING

It's hurting apparently, but it inspires confidence for that very reason. We are a family of marathon runners, but I have passed the marathon torch to my children, given the age I am. My daughter trains hard and methodically, she is on the mend after fracturing an ankle in her last marathon, and she needed a more effective foam roller than the one she already has. This new one is doing the trick already. Yoga wasn't helping much with tight shoulders, nor was the old roller, but the new job is answering the need. The tyre tread design gets into the knots. Similarly she has tight hamstrings from so much running, and the new roller is sorting that problem out too.It hurt like billy-o at first, but it was the kind of hurt that gave the sense it was doing good. In any case once the knotted muscles have been eased on first usage, it gets a lot less painful.A very welcome acquisition. It does what it ought to do.

Eases the knots

I've never used one of these muscle massagers before, but as I've recently joined my local gym I thought I'd give this a workout after my workout.Firstly it's quite a lot bigger than I expected, and the “tread” is quite pronounced. So far I've used it on my calf muscles after a thirty minute run on the treadmill and found it really quite effective. I used to suffer dreadfully from cramp in my calf muscles not so much since joining the gym, but using this has made the muscles feel more relaxed. I also get a lot of pain in my right shoulder blade if I spend too long on the computer – in fact I have it now, so I think I'll see if this roller thingummybob helps.I'm surprised at the price, but seeing as how robust it is, it should last a long, long time.

Nice roller

This roller is about the "standard" length of rollers that I have used at the gym. It is solidly constructed, and the foam itself is fairly rigid, with a "tyre tread" pattern (if easily bruised, you will look like you've been run over!). You should be aware that the ridges, although firm, do not stick up significantly above the surface of the roller, so this gives you a "lighter' roll than a roller with circular bumps. If you are reasonably new to rolling, you will likely find this roller to be pretty good, but if you are more accustomed, or want to get deeper into knotty muscles, this may not do the trick for you.

Superb - harsh but effective for back and muscle relief

Superb - harsh but effective for back and muscle relief. Had similar but softer version from elsewhere, but I never felt it got to the heart of the problem. The raised bit of this roller always seem to be in the right place, and relieves the knots and cricks in you back, while also being great for hip flexor, thigh, calf and glutes.

Hurts but good

This is quite a good roller. I have used longer ones in the gym but find this one is easier to handle and position. The tread on it is said to give a deeper massage and certainly I feel that it hurts a bit but feels better after I have used it. I use it after runs as soon as I come in. My calves feel so much looser afterwards. After workouts I will probably use it mainly on my back but sometimes my arms.
