handsome, well balanced, perfect size for veggie prep... and CRAZY sharp
I like to cook. Although I am a home cook I have been through culinary school and follow cooking blogs and such for fresh ideas and methods. I have been using a Chinese style cleaver for about 30 years to do veggie prep, but it's heavy and i'm getting "older". Recently I saw an offer for a Nakiri knife from a well known cooking program personality that piqued my interest. I checked out the "special offer" and then went to Amazon to see what similar knives were available for comparison. By the description this TUO Nakiri seemed to be similar at about half the price so I took a chance. I can't compare this to the other "special offer" knife, but I can compare it to every other knife I've ever owned and I seriously think it is the best I've ever used for veggie prep. The weight, balance and length are spot on. The blade of TUO Nakiri is thick enough to resist any flex but tapers to a slim profile toward the cutting edge, making fine cuts quick and efficient. A quick tip if this is your first Asian style knife...Asian knives are ground at a different angle than American/European knives. If you use an American/European knife sharpener you will ruin the edge the first time you sharpen it. I use a "Chef's Choice Diamond Hone 463 Asian" sharpener, and a couple quick swipes before I put it away keeps it scary sharp every time. I won't comment on "dishwasher safe"... I wouldn't do that to any fine knife.

Balanced and razor sharp
This was a Christmas gift purchase but after looking it over I decided to buy one myself and I’m very pleased. The knife is well balanced and razor sharp. I like how it fits my hand and it looks very professional as well and for the price it can’t be beat. I highly recommend it.

Good quality for the price
Good quality for the price. It’s sharp enough to use as is, but definitely benefits from sharpening first. The finish is not great around the heel and bolster area. Looks a bit scratched and discolored. Doesn’t affect use. This knife has enough carbon steel that it must be cleaned right away after use. Just letting it sit until after supper it started to get rusty spots. They clean off as long as it’s caught early. Now I wash and dry it as soon as I finish with it to avoid the problem, which is normal for high carbon steel. Absolutely do not put it in the dishwasher! The weight and balance are good. I have small hands with arthritis and it is easy and comfortable to use. If you can’t afford an expensive knife, this is a great choice.

Some rust.
After only a few uses, some rust is appearing on the hilt area. This does not affect the knife's use. I washed and dried immediately after use. Don't know why the rust appeared.? Otherwise, I like the knife. It is well balanced, feels good in my hand, and it is very sharp.

Nice knife, but not as sharp as people claim.
This is a beautiful, well constructed blade and handle. Its weight and balance are very good. It’s packaging was excellent. Blade dimensions are within the lines of more expensive knives. The cutting bevel is good, but I wouldn’t call this knife very sharp out of the box. I plan to hone it on a 400 grit diamond stone, and finish with 1200/1400 grit stone. I’m sure it will be razor sharp after that. All in all, this is a very nice blade and should give years of service.

Be careful with that knife, Eugene.......
I was reading the NYT and this knife was featured in one of the sections. It was hard to believe that it could be as reasonably priced as it is and still be a quality product. Well...it has become my go-to for all my chopping chores in the kitchen. I like using a cleaver style knife but most are just too heavy. This one is just right. And very sharp. The blade is a mix of alloys. The carbon component gives you the sharpness you would expect in a quality knife and the stainless steel component gives it the longevity. So you are not sacrificing one for the other...sheer genius. The wood handle is a big plus too. It is everything the Times said it was. Couldn't be happier with this purchase

Beautiful affordable high quality nakiri knife
Full disclosure: I'm a bit of a kitchen knife junkie. Got way more than I will ever need, though that is beside the point. I have some expensive knives (Shun, Zwilling, and others) and as a sort of hobby collect various brands to try. This is the first TUO Phoenix series knife, and it is wonderful. The quality is great, the balance among the best, and it came really sharp. Then there are the esthetics -- this is plainly a beautifully knife with the pakkawood grainy handle. Itis somewhat lighter than some other nakiri knives I have used. The beveled bolster is both graceful and useful - it makes the pinch grip easier to use. So I keep coming back to this knife for daily use. Could not recommend any higher. But I love my Shun Classic knives too.

Sharp out of the box
I don’t usually give 5* reviews, but this knife sure deserves it. If you buy it, you won’t need another chef’s knife ever, other than the petty knife that its useful for fruits. Its sharp out of the box for sure and kept its sharpness during cutting. But hold your fingers right there, a knife is only as sharp as it’s owner keeps it. Meaning, such knives should Not go in the dishwasher, its own little manual says so too. Also abruptly cutting veggies by smacking the knife on the cutting board like we all see on tv will dull your knife faster and you will have a wtf plaster on your face and I’ll give you the Italian hand expression 🤌🏽. A sharpening rod and leather sharpener belt would help keep it sharp. Got to remember nothing lasts for ever if you don't take care of it. Sharpening knives is an art and if you would like to have a set of really sharp knives, i suggest you learning the ways of sharpening. Personal experience: i got the knife out of the box felt its sharpness, but still pass the rod and the sharpening leather belt and cut the skin of a pineapple like it was butter 🤘🏽 Best of luck and enjoy your life cutting pineapple and sweetening your life up and out.
