Bought this item before I read the reviews and then became concerned that it did not have the threaded section to attach the backer plate to the polisher. However, what I received was perfect right out of the box - ready to attach to the polisher, no additional parts needed. While the picture does not show threads, the black nipple shown on the backer plate is a protective cover over the threads! It pops right off. This is a nice touch such that the threads are not damaged during shipping or handling. Another nice touch is that it comes with two washers - don't throw these out! Use theses washers as spacers when one attaches the pad to the polisher - it gives extra space for the tightening wrench to get in between the pad and the polisher. This backer pad also has a couple of other features that make it a nice backer: 1) The rigid plate on the polisher side is smaller around than the pad that came with the polisher. This allows the plate to be a bit more flexible at the edges for working curved areas. 2) The body of the pad is a more flexible material than the OEM backer plate. Again - better for working curves. I am not sure why OP had an issue - perhaps they got a defective piece or another model that requires an adapter. I found an adapter on ebay priced at $3 plus $3 shipping and picked it up so I could buy any backer pad in the future. So bottom line: Good backer plate, comes ready to use, has some nice features, good deal! Would buy again.

This little backing plate is nice quality and works great. Durable construction and I had no quality or durability issues with any aspect of it. I bought this to use with 3" CarPro glass polishing pads on my Harbor Freight dual action polisher (Porter Cable 7424 knockoff), and it's perfect for that application. The combination of a small polishing pad on a small backing plate allowed me to get very close to corners and edges when polishing water spots off my windows. I used a larger pad and backing plate combination to polish the vast majority of the glass, but without the small pad and backing plate I would have had to polish the corners of my windows by hand, which would be a huge amount of work. A small polishing pad and backing plate can also be helpful in polishing out light scratches in glass, as the smaller size allows you to apply more pressure to the area. I also tried the included adapter chucked in a drill just to try it out. It works just fine. For most applications I'll probably use my dual action polisher, but if you needed to polish something using a drill rather than a DA, this would allow you to do it. I suppose it could be handy for someone who just wants to polish headlight lenses or trim pieces and doesn't need a dual action movement to get the job done.

Perfect fitment for the TORQ buffer.

I am a woodworker, and I have one for my drill press and one for my hand drill. I use these disk to hold various grits of sand paper. This disk is far superior to any of the disk that you get from woodworking supplies. They all use foam for the cushion and they do not last very long. Just removing the sandpaper to change it can rip the foam off if you are not careful. The same is not true with these disk. The pad is very forgiving and seems to be able to take a good amount of abuse. I would recommend this to anybody that does woodworking, especially Intarsia, these are fantastic for shaping the little pieces to make those beautiful pictures. These pads are also great for sanding your lathe pieces.

I have had this backing plate for a few months now and i must say i am impressed with its durability. I have done 3 fire trucks and 4 cars / suv's without being let down once. Before i purchased this i was seeing reviews that people were having them melt due to heat build up and i personally have not had any issue with the heat at all. I detailed the fire trucks in 3 "sittings" or days, each day was 6 to 8 hours of non stop running this on my porter cable 7424xp. I am NOT saying the others are lying about the heat by any means but if 6-8 hours non stop doesn't melt it i think its safe to say that this backing plate is quality. it really does flow and contour into the lines of the vehicles for ease of cutting, buffing, and polishing. I have and will keep recommending this product. Great for the beginner to someone with years of detailing. I am a normal customer and have not been asked or been given anything for a review. This is just an awesome product. PS. You will find a black cap on the screw end of the backing plate DO NOT MISPLACE THIS that is what keeps the washer from getting lost! trust me!

I can’t comment on durability as I have only just begun to use them. I turn wood bowls and sanding is the least interesting, but most important part of the process. I bought several of these backing plates and have attached different velcro backed grits separately to each, then labeled the yellow rim with the grit number. The flexibility of the sponge backing makes speedy work of contoured bowl shapes. I just use a standard light weight battery powered drill and rotate three batteries on two chargers to that I can sand for long periods.
