Medical Theory from a Practical Point of View
In the world of health and exercise this book really shines. There's a complete run-down of how to monitor and improve your systemic health from diet to exercise, from psychology to aging. Practically laid out and extremely easy to understand, you're told not only what is important, but *why* things are important. There is particularly deep focus on practical head-to-toes exercises and stretches; including detail on weight lifting, balance and plyometrics. Unless you have a PhD in physiology, there'll be something in this book that will deepen your holistic understanding of your body. My big wish for this book is if/when they come out with a revision they include the super-great food pyramid the Mayo Clinic have on their Web site. With used copies going for less than five bucks (and given that you're actually interested enough to read this review to the end), I believe this book is a no-brainer buy for you.

Mayo fitness book
Large book but pretty basic advice. No brainer motivational advice for the person who has no clue how to exercise. For the rest of us who know something, just review of basic principles of exercise. A decent read.

Not for everyone
TheMayo Clinic association pulled me in; I expected cutting edge information on fitness. I found it instead covering for the most part part pretty basic material. To anyone who peruses the fitness segments in the Washington Post, the science and fitness articles published by theNYT, ever subscribed to Menโs Health, browsed Science Daily, or accesses the Internet on aerobic training, strength training, or a variety of subjects directed at well-being, you will have negated any need for this publication. It is probably appropriate to acknowledge the effort necessary to assemble it, but there is IMHO, no new information and little useful beyond common knowledge.
