this is replacing one that I've used for about 6 years that I lost. It works just as well & is just as easy to use. and inexpensive. I use it daily for my outdoor plants that look wilted..it tells me if the soil is too wet or dry...I put the gauge in 3 different parts of the soil around the plants since part may be dry & another part of the plant wet.

This works really well. Great product for the cost.

I had been buying herb plants at the grocery store repeatedly then losing them when I over or under watered them. This is such a useful tool! It's worked extremely well. I do still lose plants but that's because I forget to tend them at all. Is there a tool for THAT, lol?!

Originally I thought this product was great and has good reviews. I've recently begun a garden in soil that is almost completely clay and so retains water and wanted something to help assess when the soil was dry, to prevent overwatering and root rot. I started using the meter every few days for a week and a half. Each time the meter read the root balls as "wet" or very moist. After a week and a half without watering and "wet" root balls, plants began to wilt. I then placed the meter in a bag of dry potting soil, to which it again read "wet." I haven't used it again since and the plants look better. After each reading, I removed the meter from the soil and wiped it clean, and each time I removed the meter from soil it immediately read 0. Maybe it was only this meter, but I doubt I'll be buying another. UPDATE JUNE 2016: So I bought a more expensive digital meter that tests moisture, pH, sunlight, and temp and compared it to this more simple meter. I bought the more expensive meter looking for a more accurate moisture meter; I was very skeptical of the other functions. I found that this simple meter matched the more expensive one in moisture level on every reading and was also easier to read as the digital meter could only be read from a certain angle due to the screen. After this I tried giving this meter another chance and only watered when the meter read "dry" which it eventually did after over a week without water. After my initial review, the plants looked better after I stopped using the meter, but then quickly declined and looked worse than they did. The trees and plants have since looked much better with the help of this meter. I have discovered that the clay soil retains water much longer than I previously thought and I was over watering everything. So it may be that the meter has saved my garden and investment into the plants. Even more impressive was that when I expressed dissatisfaction with the product originally, the company offered to refund the item, even without my return of the meter. I didn't accept this as I was testing the meter and now know that the meter's definitely worth the price. Impressive customer service though.

The only one out there that I've seen for years that actually uses copper for the whole conductor of the unit. It's very sensitive to the dampness of the soil because of this. Unfortunately it is so sensitive that any soil that is designed to stay damp will read wet or at ten when it's actually around a three or four. So beware when you read it. They need to recalibrate the unit for regular soil and spagnum. This would be a great unit if it was recalibrated. This would work for succulents or something like that. It should be listed as being good for soils for specific plants or soil types. I've had to lower my rating only because of this. P.S. for everyone that is putting this into water. They will read totally dry. These are not to be left in wet soil or water for any length of time as they will become inoperable. Basically ruining them.

Diese Gerät hilft mir sehr gut beim Gießen der Blumen. Meistens fühlt sich die Erde oben trocken an, im Topf selber ist die Feuchtigkeit aber noch völlig ausreichend. Mit diesem Fühler kann ich nun nach dem tatsächlichen Bedarf gießen. Schön wäre es , wenn die auf der Verpackung angegebenen Pflanzen so beschrieben werden, dass es für mich als Laien verständlich wird. So könnte ich den Wasserbedarf meiner Blumen noch besser einordnen.

Bon testeurs d’humidité. Très juste. Ça m’aide beaucoup à savoir s’il faut bien arroser ou pas. Très fiable. Important à en avoir pour ces fleures lorsqu’on a eu un oubli par exemple. Très bon produit je recommande.

I absolutely loved this product! It is very easy to use, highly functional, and gives very accurate moisture readings for my plants. My only minor critique is that I hope the prong could be a bit longer to reach deeper into larger pots. Overall, it is a fantastic tool and highly recommended!
