I ordered this WU-1a to use with my shiny new D3300. I'm a total novice to DSLRs, but I wanted to be able to snap a photo and then be able to view and edit it on my iPad, since my laptop is currently thrashed. iPads notoriously have no ports for memory cards, hence the need for the wireless adapter. -How big is it? It's a little bit bigger than my thumbnail at the base. It's really not very big. Since it's so small, it doesn't really add weight or bulk to the camera, which is nice. -Does it drain my battery? I don't leave mine attached for extended periods of time. Instead, it comes with a nifty little carrying case that attaches right to your camera strap. I plug it in when I want to transmit photos, and unplug it otherwise. Since it's not constantly transmitting, the battery drain is minimal enough that I don't notice a difference between regular use and use with the wireless unit. -Is it easy to install? Yep! The instruction manual is ginormous. Most likely because it's written in several languages. I didn't even unfold it all the way (oops!) and instead, I plugged it in and looked at the instructions for attaching the included carrying case to the camera strap. After that, it was just installing the app and then connecting. If I had to pick a step that was the hardest, I would say connecting was it. It was still a snap, since I followed the advice of previous reviewers and put my phone/iPad in airplane mode and then enabled only the device's wifi network. -Does it work? YES! Within 5 minutes of the mailman handing me my Amazon package, I had wirelessly transferred 120 photos to my iPad. It's that easy. I've seen other reviewers complain about long transfer times, but I was able to transfer my photos in seconds. 50 photos takes about 15 seconds. As far as I was able to tell (novice, remember?) the photos didn't lose any of their sharpness or contrast, and the file sizes were the same as they were on the camera. -Would you recommend this? Absolutely. It works exactly how I want it to, and reliably. I got exactly what I was looking for, and would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this and was about to return it as I didn't like how limited the phone/tablet software worked. Limited control, etc. like all the reviews. Also, I read that it didn't work with a PC. Even Nikon says that it is for Android only on the package so I was about to return it. I use a Nikon D7100. and also had been disappointed at some of the camera's limitations in live view operation generally. HOWEVER.... I stumbled on a free program that gives tons of control over the camera. The WU-1a lets me run the camera remotely on my PC with control over the shutter, iris, etc. There are caveats to how great this software is, but now I can operate the camera remotely while it is attached to my outdoor telescope while I sit warmly in my house. I can preview with live view and change the shutter and iris, then take high quality single frames or movies. The software author figured out a neat trick flipping it in and out of live view to permit the iris adjustment to be useful. Live view with the software is better than if I had the camera in my hands. I am still stunned at how great the two work together. The program is called digiCamControl and is found on www,digicamcontrol.com. It's free, no ads, etc.

I'm not sure if I'll use this enough for it to really be worth the 60 bucks or so it cost me, but we'll see. As far as the product itself. It's really small and it's neat that it can be attached to your Nikon camera strap within its own protective case so that one is much less likely to lose it. Of course if you lose your camera or it's stolen, there goes the Wireless Mobile Adapter along with it. The app was super easy to find and naviagate on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and the app is free. The directions of the product tell tell you what to search for when you're trying to find the app from the Android market. It comes up and you simply download and install the app. The app is pretty darn basic and simply lets you take pictures remotely using your phone or allows you to download pics from your D3200 to your phone. All of this of course is done wirelessly, which was the whole point you're thinking about buying this accessory. The download is pretty quick, depending upon the file size...obviously. My camera is set to normal jpeg file size so to download say 4 shots from my D3200 to my phone it was maybe 3 seconds total? Obviously you need a WIFI connection to use this Wireless Mobile Adapter and to download pics to your phone. My only real gripe is that once you download pics to your phone, they ARE NOT stored in your Gallery folder. They are stored elsewhere on your SDcard or phone. I had to go into the My Files app on my phone and find them...once in there you find the folder labeled Nikon_WU and open that folder to move them. You have to move them into your Gallery folder from there, which takes some time, though isn't too difficult. I wish the app had a setting sort of like a Save As setting so you could establish where you want your files downoaded before you actually download them. In other words, I don't like that the downloaded files are default downloaded into the Nikon_WU folder; I'd like to decide on my own where they get downloaded. Uploading your photos from the app to Facebook or via text or email is a breeze...just like you would do from your phone normally. A couple times the accessory was a little tempermental in hooking up to WiFi, and it took a couple minutes, but other than that the device works fine. It has a little green light that shines solid when the WMA is connected and you're ready to download or take pics. The only other thing I'd change is the technology so that even though you have the accessory plugged in to the side of your phone, you could use still use your digital viewfinder on your D3200. As it is right now, once you plug in the accessory to your D3200, you can no longer make adjustments to your shot using the digital viewfinder. You can set your camera to autofocus and it will focus for you and that's about it. I would say I would probably buy this product again as it is cool to remotely take pics using your cell and then download them to your cell phone, I just wish they were downloaded to the Gallery folder on my phone by default and not the Nikon folder. The D3200 I abosolutely love...the quality of action and portrait shots it takes is awesome for my uses and it works well with this WMA.

This adds that little bit of versatility I wanted for my camera with out jumping up to the next level with a built in one. Works great Nikkon part.

Hallo Liebe Leser, ich habe mir die Nikon D3200 eigentlich nur aufgrund dieses Features gekauft. Bilder direkt auf dem Display des Smartphones oder Tablets anschauen. Die Idee ist gut die Umsetzung schlecht. Vor allem große Bilder RAW (NEF Dateien), sollte man ganz deaktivieren. Die Bilder im Bildschirm Display ruckeln leicht weshalb man das ganze am besten nur mit Stativ nutzt. Die Bilder werden mit Wlan übertragen, leider nur mit 54 MBit/s, was bei größeren Bildern einfach einen Flaschenhals darstellt. Ich hatte mir den Adapter gekauft ohne mir dem Problem vorher bewusst zu sein. Trotzdem wird er zum Einsatz kommen, vor allem in Innenräumen für UWW Aufnahmen wo es auf jeden cm ankommt, sehe ich noch potential. Hier kann man die Kamera direkt an die Wand platzieren und bekommt nochmal 20-25cm Platz. Dort wo kein Platz ist, kann man mit dem passenden Objektiv und dem Adapter Bilder machen. Eine Kabelgebundene Lösung wäre wünschenswert. Vor allem für normale Aufnahmen oder eben schnelleres Lan. Für Schnappschüsse ist es momentan unbrauchbar. Was hätte man noch besser machen können? Vieles! und zwar hätte man verschiedene Belichtungen einbauen können, für HDR Aufnahmen oder Langzeitbelichtungen. Ich hatte mir Szenarien ausgemalt die Kamera am Okular eines Teleskops zu montieren. Macht so im leider wenig Sinn. Der Adapter bietet noch mehr Features, z.b. kann man die Bilder auch veröffentlichen oder hochladen. Das geschieht dann über die Android App. Ganz nützlich im Hotel oder unterwegs, genau das wollte ich haben. Bin beruflich viel Unterwegs und mache daher ab und an auch tolle Fotos. Diese kann ich dann übers Handy verbreiten. Pro: ==== +Sehr kompakt +Schöne aufbewahrung für den Kameragurt Negativ: ========= -nur 54 MBit/s, das ist zu langsam für Schnappschüsse -Im Bildschirm sehen wir nichts in Echtzeit wegen stockender Übertragung -zuwenig Möglichkeiten, wo bleibt HDR oder Langzeitbelichtung Fazit: ======= Mehr Spielerei, es fehlen einfach Bedienmöglichkeiten. Insgesamt nur wenig Anwendungsmöglichkeiten da zu langsam. Besser wäre der Adapter mit USB Anschluss damit man Smartphone oder Tablet direkt an die Kamera per Kabel anschließen kann. Momentan nur für Landschaft oder Innenaufnahmen geeignet, praktisch für Weitwinkel wo kein Platz vorhanden ist. Hier muss Nikon noch einiges Nachbessern, nicht nur am Adapter auch der App fehlen viele wichtige realisierbare Funktionen. Die App registriert sich im Autostart des Smartphones, lässt sich in den Einstellungen des App deaktivieren. Sollten weitere Verbesserungen folgen, so folgen auch meinerseits weitere Sterne. Getestet mit dem Samsung Galaxy S3. Nachtrag: ========== So ich hab hier mal unzufrieden geschrieben, mittlerweile bin ich sehr zufrieden. Ich nutze die App "DSLR Dashboard", diese unterstützt mittlerweile auch den Adapter. Die Nikon Software ist immer noch unbrauchbar. Die Dashboard Software bietet alles was man braucht selbst die Bildübertragung klappt wunderbar, die Bilder werden vorher komprimiert. Jetzt gibt es wieder 5 Punkte.

Despues de analizar por mucho tiempo si comprar o no este adaptador decidí arriesgarme y comprarlo. El precio que maneja Amazon para este producto esta bastante bien, lo he visto en tiendas departamentales (Liverpool y PH) a mas del doble del precio que tiene Amazon, yo lo compre cuando costaba 699. Ventajas: Trae una mini correa la cual se engancha directamente al adaptador y al cuerpo de la camara, por lo que es dificil que se caiga y se pierda, ademas trae un pequeño estuche que se puede colocar en la correa de la camara para protegerlo de golpes. No utiliza ningun tipo de bateria ya que obtiene energia directamente de la camará, trae un foco indicador que se enciende cuando se hace alguna transferencia, la potencia del wifi es buena, la he probado a mas de 8 metros y funciona sin problema. Para mi una de las ventajas principales es la estabilidad del wifi, no se desconecta y es muy sencillo instalarlo por primera vez, funciona perfecto con un Samsung Galaxy Alpha y una Galaxy Tab. Contras: Realmente yo tenia miedo de comprar este adaptador porque al revisar los reviews de amazon y de otras paginas dedicadas a la fotografía en todas coinciden que la aplicación oficial de Nikon para poder utilizar el adaptador era pésima.... y efectivamente es una gran decepción... la aplicación se llama Wireless Mobile Utility, tiene una calificación de 3.5 en Play store. Practicamente solo sirve para tomar fotos de forma remota y para descargar fotos a tu teléfono. No puedes ajustar casi ningun parámetro desde la aplicación y lo peor de todo es que cada que vez que entras a ver tus fotos, hace una descarga de los previews de todas las fotos que tenga la memoria, osea que si tienes 300 o 400 fotos la aplicación tardara cerca de 3 minutos en descargar los previews y que los puedas ver, si te sales para tomar una foto y quieres regresar a ver esa foto que tomaste... otros 3 minutos para volver a descargar los previews nuevamente... es una perdida de tiempo... Mi recomendación final es que si quieres el adaptador para descargar fotos de la cámara para compartir en tus redes sociales, adelante, te va a funcionar perfectamente y el precio de amazon es el mejor que vas a encontrar, si andas buscando algo mas profesional este adaptador no lo es, al menos la app oficial no te va a servir.

The Nikon WU-1a is a bargain-priced wifi adaptor for particular models of camera — bargain priced, that is, by comparison with the £100s adaptors for the D800 and the D4. Surprisingly, though, the WU-1a supports the Nikon Df, a full-frame professional camera which shares the same sensor as the D4. With the two together, you can download images straight to your smartphone, or use the phone to control the camera, live preview remotely, and take pictures. I use this with the Df and an iPhone 6. I find it works fine with the free Nikon app, but I also use it with QDslr, which offers more complete control. I continue to be baffled about the size and price of the WiFi adaptors for the D800 and the D4. In terms of bridging a Nikon to the internet, this is fine, although the download of images is not the most speedy, nor the connection entirely robust. This unit is supplied with a nifty little carry case, which goes onto the camera's strap. This is brilliant, because this little jigger is only useful if you have it with you, but far too easy to misplace. You can't leave it on all the time, because it drains battery and sticks out. The carry case is only as big as a Lego 4-brick, and doesn't get in the way. You can't use this with the HDMI cable plugged in: it physically doesn't fit. I was delighted to discover this for a reasonable add-on price, and am pleased with its operation.
