Quality item. My last one (which was cheap) broke and didn't last... the pepper was dispensed very lightly. This one is substantial and the pepper is dispersed quickly and the flakes are big. I love the design. Simple yet beautiful and classic. Going to get the one for salt too.

Update: I received a refund from the seller due to the item's condition, which was very generous - great customer service. I think I can comment on the quality of the grinder now and ignore the shipping issues (in the old review below). Updated Review: Build Quality: 4.5/5, plastic barrel knicks this down from 5/5. Feels sturdy in the hand. Aesthetics: 4.5/5, again a slight downgrade due to the plastic. Otherwise it looks and feels nice. Action: 5/5, Grinds a LOT of pepper per turn. Feels smooth. The grind sizes are very good - the finest size is very fine. It is easy to change grind size. A quality product. My only complaint was how it was shipped, hopefully they change that in the future. The pepper grinder was shipped in an envelope with no packaging, so it arrived damaged. Since it was just in the envelope with no protection, it fell apart in transit. The central axel that turns the grinder is bent out of alignment due to shipping damage - it still works, I think, but it is not in new condition. Also, it was full of pepper when it was shipped, so the pepper fell out in transit and it and the various parts of the grinder scratched the stainless steel. All the pepper was just loose in the shipping envelope, but I wasn't necessarily planning on using it anyway - I'm more concerned about the damage to the item. It seems like a decent grinder, but I paid $50 for it and it arrived in essentially used, slightly damaged condition.

Yes, it's expensive for what it is. This is well made and works perfectly. Easier to fill than others I have had. The top pulls off, took a bit to figure that.

Grinds easily at all grind levels from extremely fine to coarse. Loads easily as well. Might not be a beautiful old walnut pepper grinder, but is most functional. Highly recommended!

Recommended by ATK so you knew it was going to be good. But is there really a difference from that grinder you just picked up at the grocery store or home goods? Wow and yes. Uniform, quick, and hearty output. Simple click setting to adjust the grind size, not having to fiddle with inaccurate wingnuts that you tighten then seem to loosen on their own. Also, if you want to do some home adjustments, the grinding pole under the top cap is the same as any battery powered grinder. So, with a little tinkering, I made this into a powered grinder!

I bought this as a gift after using my own set of salt and pepper mills from Cole & Mason for about half a year. Pre-ground and fresh-cracked pepper are worlds apart in terms of flavour and I didn't want the giftee to miss out any more than they already had by buying pre-ground. This particular mill is attractive with brushed stainless steel and a clear plastic receptacle, so you can see how much peppercorn is left. It's not too difficult to get open, though I would recommend you only open it when it's at least half empty as peppercorns are liable to jump and spill all over the place if you open it when it's any more full than that. The recipient is happy with the gift which is ultimately what matters. Sounds like they use it nearly every day, looks good on their counter, and is easy to use and adds flavour to their cooking. :)

It's not cheap one but it worth it. And looks really nice.

I have used dozens of pepper mills in my life, between cooking professionally and as a hobby. This one is by far the easiest to refill, the easiest to select a grind size, and the easiest to use. Granted you don't get the same level of fine control over the grind setting as you do with a traditional mill, but for 99% of people the settings on this will cover every need anyway. And since you don't need to unscrew the cap to refill it, you don't lose and have to re-find your grind setting each time you replace the peppercorns in it. It still works as well now as the day I bought it, and I'm debating buying 2-3 more to have some peppercorn variety available. By far the best one I've ever used. Not to mention it looks great, it's just a classy piece of design. 10/10, my only concern is the long term durability of it since the part that holds the cap on to the body is plastic, but I won't know how well that hold up for another decade or two. As far as I can tell the plastic they use is very high quality though.
