Stupid sharp, amazing price, D2 steel
The media could not be loaded. I’m a knife nut, I am also a steel snob. D2 steel is an amazing steel. This blade came so sharp I actually could shave my face with. I have worn this appendix carry for days and love it. I did make one little modification to the sheath so I could for my finger so it could purchase the loop. I just used a Rotary tool and sanded it took me about 10 minutes. And it allowed me to get my finger in the loop when I draw it out of the sheath. That has nothing to do with the blade the blade is honestly the best blade you will find for the price. The sheath also has about eight different ways you can carry it, inside the waistband, outside the waistband, straight up, sideways, kind of like the elevator and Willy Wonka.

Good edge retention and concealability
The media could not be loaded. Had this for a couple years now. Great neck knife! Beefy D2 steel blade. Kind of an odd blade shape but I dig it. Edge retention is great. Weighty for the size. The point is super fine but strong and SHARP. The handles aggressive curve is the only drawback. However it still feels fine in the hand but you have to grip it a very particular way. I use it for everything. Breakdown boxes, cut a steak lol, shave wood, open packages etc.... Good all rounder. Ideal for neck knife concealability. I keep mine on a lanyard under my shirt 24/7. Would also be easy to turn into a makeshift spear tip blade in a pinch in a survival scenario.

HIP-HIP KUBEY!!!
Kubey makes some excellent knives, easy to amass a collection. The Hippocampus fixed blade is a great utility knife for the value. It’s ideal for such a variety of tasks for cutting thread to more demanding materials. It fits well in the hand nicely for fine crafts, slicing, or scraping like a razor blade. Never disappointed when I have an excuse to grab it. The Kydex sheath is grad too, makes it easy to carry or store. Think it would be improved with a lanyard cord and bead. Really you’ll never be disappointed it this tools versatility.

My second fantastic Kubey!
This is my second Kubey knife with D2 steel. They are literally now my favorite everyday knifes and I consider myself quite the knife collector. The price is quite amazing for the quality you receive. My other Kubey is the golf. I wear my Kubey knifes around my neck on a lanyard when hunting or fishing, they are always handy, perform exceptionally and hold a edge. They also feel great in your hands. If you don't own a Kubey - get you one, and thank me later!

Sheath really hooks into your belt while grip and blade design cinches into your hand
Having carried fixed blades made of high end steel and by well known knife designers, I would still trust my life to the Kubey Hippocampi as a defensive and possibly utility tool. Nothing particularly stands out about this knife but everything about this knife design is done well. The clip on the sheath really hooks and bites into your belt, and it seems to require just the right amount of force to draw in that you would not have any worries of it accidentally slipping out. You also hear and feel an audible click when you re-sheath the blade, which I personally like. The finger hole is more than large enough for pretty much any hand size, yet the grip is perfect for someone with smaller hands like me. Once your fingers enclose around the G10 grip and got a finger through the finger hole, you know knife is not going anywhere involuntarily. I carry this knife on my left side and draw in a reverse grip, I cannot speak on it's effectiveness as an everyday utility type of tool as I would use another knife for such tasks. The design of the Hippocampi is nothing new and there are similar higher end designs out there (still waiting on the newest Spyderco Swick), but for the price you get more than your money's worth.

Wanted to love it so bad, but that sheath…
Great knife design through and through. Excellent ergonomics and control. Nice solid cutting edge that images don’t do justice. The kind of EDC blade good for utility work and self-defense. Overall, the kind of knife I go nuts for.But that sheath! WTF Kubey? One, don’t be tricked by images in the reviews that show sheaths with horizontal spacers. That is not what you get. Nor should you be deceived into thinking the third hole will line up with any third party “universal” clip like a Tek-Lock. It’s if Kubey has gone out if their way to make sure that third hole is as useful as a third nipple. None of my clips came close to fitting. So disappointing. If I come across a third a third party custom vendor with better sheaths designed for this knife, then I’ll consider repurchasing, but for now, Kubey can have this back.

With a little modification, it becomes an EDC knife!
I own a TDI Kabar, which I normally wear as an EDC, weak-side (left), while I wear my normal carry gun on my right. I liked the look of the KU166, possibly as another EDC knife, same carry position. An extremely nice blade, my only modifications to make it work for my purposes was 1) the once attached lanyard isn't there, though the company includes a short piece of leather "shoe-lace" material. So I added that in a simply snake-knot. 2) As a few reviewers have mentioned, the simple use of a Dremel tool to enlarge the finger-hole on the stock Kydex sheath really makes this difference in retrieving the knife swiftly, when you keep the stock, upright carry position (the sheath also can be mounted horizontally, but that's not in my carry-design). See other review pictures for the enlargement of the sheath, Amazon will probably not post this review, if I include an actual picture of the knife. All-in-all, this was a good purchase of a nice blade and sheath.

Very sharp and unique blade
Awesome knife! One of my new favorite everyday carry knives. For the price you really can't beat it. It's razor sharp right out of the box and fits well in the hand. The case is just okay, a little too much retention and makes it hard to get out. I really like the grip and finger hole and the shape is definitely different than what you usually see. It's a great all around knife for normal use
