Bean Thirteen

This is a great way to tie literature and math together, and is perfect as the basis of a powerful problem-solving based lesson. My 1st graders listened to the story in parts, then went to their seats and modeled the section with blocks. They recorded their work using multiple digit addition. Other grades could easily use this as a division springboard. NCTM has more ideas for this book, too.

Wonderful book to introduce math concepts for early and intermediate learners. Explores fair shares, number sense, composing/decomposing numbers, division and problem solving. Children love the story and enjoy acting it out with thier own plates and beans.

Good read aloud

my grandson's favorite book; a nice way to introduce division to a second grader. I gave it to his classroom as a gift and his classmates all loved it!
