Created by indie comics artist Jhonen Vasquez, Invader Zim tells the story of extraterrestrial outcast Zim, from the planet Irk. With the assistance of his malfunctioning robot GIR, Zim repeatedly tries (and fails) to execute his dastardly plan to conquer Earth, all while masquerading as an average elementary school student. DOOM DOOM DOOM: The Art of Invader Zim is the definitive history of both the fan-favorite series and the upcoming Invader Zim television movie Enter the Florpus , airing in spring 2019. A fully authorized, all-access compendium of never-before-published production art, storyboards, behind-the-scenes photos, and ephemera, the book will feature exclusive, interviews with Vasquez and other key crewmembers that reveal the origins, art, and imagination behind one of Nickelodeon's most beloved turn-of-the-millennium series. A must for any Invader ZIM fan!
Awesome book, very in depth and gives a nice history of the series creation and inspiration behind it, plus plenty of concept art and art from the show.

Another Awesome Zim Book!
I've been a fan of Zim forever, and I was really disappointed there wasn't an art book until I learned about about a year ago. Of course it only released a few months ago I think, but I couldn't wait to get it. And it did not disappoint! The overall structure of the book follows a timeline of Jhonen Vasquez's career through comics, beginning in high school with Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, it also talks about his other comics like Squee! and briefly touches on his others. It's followed by how he came to work for Nickelodeon, and what it was like working on the show, with quotes from Jhonon, people who worked for the network, and the people who worked on the show. They talk a lot about the visual identity of Invader Zim, the sound design, how cinematic it was, and it targets in on the philosophy of the humor, which is really nice. It really just talks about all the elements and puts into words of why Invader Zim became a cult classic sort of show. That's the bulk of the book, but there's also later portions which talk about the backgrounds of the show. Finally, it talks about the Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus movie, and why it was different than the original series, how it was influenced by the comic, and how they adapted eleven minute cartoon formula to a full length movie. This also touches on how the movie changed the way they approached color, shots, and how they were able to do some more things they wanted to do with the original. It also touches on how writing for a Zim movie was way different than the show, like making the characters have more depth. I really enjoyed the book and I read it in about three days. I know the above paragraph sounds like it's more text than art, but there's a lot of art in the book. Sketches, backgrounds, screencaps, concept art. These pages, which are pretty long and generally follow a theme of either storyboards, concept art, character art, some portions of the comics, initial sketches, backgrounds, they break up the text which allows your eyes to just wander. There's so much art which is just pleasing to look at. I also think that the art follows a timeline alongside the text, which is also cool.

Highly reccomend for art/animation book collectors
When the movie was released it captured me immediately with its pop colors and fun play of animation and story. I needed to collect the art book as soon as I finished the movie. This book does not disappoint, from the love of invader Zim artists that worked on the movie loved and were dedicated to the source material. The book is great for touching on each process of creating the film equally, storyboards, colour scripts, detailed interviews, turnarounds, design process and so much more. A solid 10/10 for this art of book.

Way more content inside than expected, awesome!
Literally the best behind the scenes, concept art in a book I've ever read. Extremely well put together, content-rich. Super intriguing view points & thought processes. The art itself is a whole nother' ball park with amazing attention to detail. Highly recommend buying, fantastic addition to any book collection or inspiring artist!
