I got this for my brother to read after he got surgery since he has been wanting a dog for a while but put it off until he fully recovered. There were some complications with the surgery so he was in the ICU longer than expected. It helped keep my mom and I busy while we waited. Cute photos and tons of interesting info about each breed!

A very good variety of dogs that gives spot-on info about size, needs, tempermant and best companion for your life-style.

This is a good coffee table book if you're thinking about getting a dog. It overviews various breeds with temperament traits & so on. It has great pictures that give you a good idea of what the dog will look like. It's organized by types of people instead of types of dogs. If you're a couch potato, you can look up what kinds of dogs might fit with your lifestyle. I would not use this book as your primary resource for choosing a breed of dog, but it is a good supplemental.

I enjoyed this book and it's honesty about each breed if dog. I was pleased that the author included the possible health problems that each breed could have. This book helped me decide whether or not I wanted to get a pure bred dog or not.

Wonderful pictures and summaries

If you trust this book it will not steer you wrong. No replay value though. Simply figure out what type of person you are, what type of dog you need and turn to the page. There will be a list of ten dogs that suit your needs. Cant go wrong here.

It helped me verify my original choice of dog and turns out it was the right choice for me!

I bought this book as a gift for my brother who is wanting a dog. It's a great book with almost all of the most common breeds included. The layout is nice, where you can search for a dog breed by lifestyle, exercise needs etc. instead of having to read profiles of each dog to see if they are a good match for you. The breed summaries are clear and concise.

I found this book on the general Amazon search and it was the best of three books that I chose. The book was easy to use and each chapter had headings to help narrow down your choice eg best mixer, anti shedding etc. I didnt realise is was a book from America, but it had a dog (coton de tulear) that I didnt find in any other book, which I have now bought as the detail was so good about the dogs/ puppies characteristics. I would recommend this book to the novice wanting a good over view to help choose the right puppy for you.
