Hermle RAVENSBURG Weight Driven Wall Clock 70974000711, Wrought Iron

I've always wanted a mechanical clock since I was a child. I've looked at grandfather clocks on and off over my adult life but have never wanted to spend the money on one. I stumbled across this clock while I was looking for a new wall clock to put in my man cave and decided that if I was ever going to get a mechanical clock then this will be the one. I really like the look, feel and sound of it. It is very solid and except for the porcelain face is all metal. It did take me about a month of tinkering with it to get the time keeping very close to accurate. I got it to about 15 seconds a week slow which is close enough for me. The tick tock is fairly loud when compared to regular cheap wall clocks. At first the tick tock bothered me when I was watching movies or TV so I would stop the clock while watching TV. After a few months I don't even notice the tick tock anymore while watching TV so I don't stop it anymore. At first it was hard to see where the hands was on the clock from my chair but also after a few months I can now see where they are at. It is a very nice clock. It just takes some time to set and get used to. Update: After 5 years I have the clock so perfect on time that I only have to correct it about twice a year. It usually occurs in the start and end of winter so I wonder if it's due to the temperature affecting the clock. It runs all year long non stop. Definitely recommend.

I am very happy with this authentic German made mechanical clock. It came with a certificate of authenticity from the German manufacturer. It was not difficult at all to make the necessary adjustment to the pendulum screw to allow it to keep accurate time. It strikes the bell at the top of the clock one time at the beginning of each hour. The bell is not loud at all nor is the ticking sound it makes as the pendulum swings back and forth. I think this authentic mechanical clock is an excellent value. In my opinion, the craftsmanship is beautiful.

This analog, weight-driven clock looks better on our wall than it does in the picture. Very happy with the clock. Love the chime on the hour. Keeps good time (the pendulum is adjustable and takes patience, but it can be done). Loss off one point was due to the box and the tiny clips that hold the clock face in place were loose in the box (Once we found the pieces, it wasn't too hard to fix the face. These probably shouldn't have fallen off in the first place.) The box was a bit cheap. The weight was not firmly set in place. It had made the spaces around the weight wider from the shifting of the weight. If it were in transport any longer, the weight would have been moving freely within the box (not good).

Within 5 minutes of this lovely wall clock being mounted, I knew there was no way this thing was getting returned. I knocked down a star for the easiness of reading the time. I am used to a different clock face being on this wall. A very different face. This is definitely a more traditional clock face. It takes a little bit of getting used to but not because there was a design problem with this product. Would I buy it again? Absolutely! Let's hope that it's got some serious longevity though. Everything about it was great. It was well packaged. The chain was zip tied in different spots. I felt like I received an investment. There were a few pieces to put together but I had it done in 3 to 5 minutes. I would buy this for someone else also. Someone else said that the ticking was loud. I really don't have anything to compare it to, but I also expected it to tick. If you don't want to hear the clock in the room that you're going to put it in, don't buy this one. At the same time it's also one of the joys of a mechanical clock like this. To each their own. I was also happy to see the documentation that came with it. It's advertised as being made in Germany. The instructions are written in German and English, which was a pretty good sign for me. Interestingly enough, English was the second language in the instructions. It also comes with a certificate from the manufacturer written in German, primarily. I'd say that's pretty legit. Exactly what I want to see with a mechanical clock purchased from a German manufacturer.

If you've never owned a weight driven pendulum clock before, it's important to know that getting them to run accurately takes some work. Don't be surprised if it's off by 10 minutes per week to start. The clock must be tuned, which consists of keeping track of how fast or slow it is and turning a screw at the bottom of the pendulum to adjust how fast it swings. Once tuned, I've gotten mine too be within a couple of minutes per week. It's not hard but it requires patience. The clock advertises an 8 day movement, meaning the weight needs to be reset every 8 days. In practice, this would require hanging the clock very high on the wall. At a more reasonable height, I reset the weight every 4 to 5 days. Be prepared to hear this clock. It ticks pretty loudly, but that's just the reality of these types of mechanisms. I think it's kind of soothing, but I know not everyone agrees. I like the chime and it's nice to see this feature at this price point. I find it helps me keep track of how fast time is passing while I work. My one complaint is that I spent a week noticing that the clock kept getting out of beat and I couldn't figure out why. First, what does it mean for a clock to be "in beat"? It means that the ticks are evenly spaced. If you listen to a clock and the ticks are not evenly spaced, the clock is out of beat and the clock is at risk of spontaneously stopping. Usually the cause is that the clock isn't level. If you think for a moment, it makes sense that a clock that's regulated by a pendulum must be perfectly level. With this clock, the issue was something different. It turns out that when starting the pendulum, if you draw it too far to either side, it pushes the escapement arm into an unlevel configuration. The way to fix this is to draw the pendulum to the other side far enough that the arm is pushed back into a level position again. This makes starting the pendulum a bit of a fiddly process. You have to make sure not to draw the pendulum too far to either side. This is pretty hard to explain in text, but one you get the clock and start playing with it, you'll see what I mean. Other than that, I really like this clock. Just be aware running one of these clocks is a low key hobby. If you’re into that, it’s a great purchase.

This clock is small, but very nice. I took it out of the box, assembled the pendulum and weight, hung it on the wall, and it has kept perfect time ever since. It has a very pleasant "ding" at the top of the hour. Its tic-toc is audible, but not loud. I've got the clock hanging just outside my bedroom, and I don't hear it at night. I love clocks, especially unique ones with mechanical movements, but I almost didn't get this one because of the negative reviews saying that the pendulum stops or the clock doesn't keep accurate time. I have not found that to be the case, but like a cuckoo clock, it may take a bit of patience to get it to perform the way you want it. I'm so glad I ordered it ... I love it!

Veramente bello da vedere! Essendo aperto si possono vedere tutti gli ingranaggi meccanici in funzione, per il prezzo pagato ha superato le mie aspettative. Sembra abbastanza solido, le istruzioni sono in tedesco/inglese. Veramente di buona fattura, dovete però disporre di una parete completamente libera perché pendolo più catena per il contrappeso sono alti 1,80 m circa. Installarlo e avviarlo è semplicissimo, il rintocco ogni ora non è forte, infatti l' ho messo in camera e ho dormito tranquillamente. L' imballo era molto curato, arrivato cinque giorni in anticipo. Consiglio fortemente l' acquisto a chi ama orologi meccanici ed ha pochi soldi da spendere!

Received a prime delivery in 2 days. The clock was well packed and easy to prepare for use. It hangs from 1 screw/wall plug and needs at least 5ft 6 ins of space below for the weight chain to drop down. The pendulum swing is about 6 ins wide. The tick is very subdued and the hourly ping of the bell is unobtrusive. I think the clock (I chose a black one) is very attractive and seems to be accurate set as received. It is nice that it runs for 8 days or so before needing winding by pulling the weight chain. I recommend it.

Of all the prices for this Medieval Clock replicas, this pricing by Amazon is the cheapest and the clock by Hermle is of good quality
