this coat is heaven
This coat is super expensive but I can't say enough about it. It's deliciously warm but you never get overheated/clammy... there's a genius zipper under each armpit that can unzip from either the top or bottom for optimal air flow, it's perfectly rainproof (I wore it for an hour in the rain without issue), and it has a really cute cut. It runs lonnnnnng on the sleeves, but also has velcro (a bit odd, but it works) that you can use to give it "cuffs" which will keep the sleeves at your wrists. It can optionally zip up to your chin to keep that warm if you'd like, and you have the option to cinch down the hood around your face, although--as with most such jackets--if you cinch too far it covers your eyes while leaving your mouth exposed, so you have to use your judgement there. The "release" mechanism seems to be buried inside the hood, but with enough wiggling I was able to get it to loosen up again (there's probably a trick I'm missing). The pockets are warm and open at the top (I prefer side-open pockets with zippers) but have a generous flap to keep them covered. When I used them I found that my sleeves puffed out enough to keep rain from getting in, so I can live with that. This is now the go-to jacket for both myself and my two teens. It's super comfortable and cute, and I'd happily give it 5 stars, but at the current extraordinary price of $280, I'd really expect e.v.e.r.y. single aspect of it to be perfect, and it's not quite there. But if it were "only" $100 I'd give it 5 stars in a heartbeat.

Excellent excellent jacket!
Update: We’ve had some really cold weather come to the mountains and this jacket showed it’s mettle—I’ve taken several walks in the Cove in 20 degree weather with chill factor of lower teens and I have been very pleased with the quality and warmth of the jacket. What I find a little awkward is the pockets - I think they may have made them the way they are so help protect your hands but sometimes it’s a little awkward to slide my hands in my pockets—though the inside material is super soft and comfy! After wearing this over the last week, I am so happy I ordered it! It’s thin enough too that if it becomes super cold, my field jacket fits over it—Win!———-This Jack Wolfskin Kiruna Trail jacket is made from mostly recycled materials—which is pretty cool. The jacket is amazingly well made. When I took it out of its bag, I was quite impressed and when I’m surprised, impressed, delighted by something, it often receives my five-star rating. Of course, one could say that for almost $280 (at time of this review), it better be a well-made great jacket to be impressed by! But for a coat this well constructed and the company that makes it, and how they make it, well, I can see that price.I love the fit of it—it doesn’t puff out like those puffer jackets (don’t like the look of those on my small frame) and nips in at the waist with a nice tailored look: love! It’s warm and insulated but isn’t heavy at all. It’ll keep me warm and dry and look good doing it!One thing I specifically ordered this for is travel to Oregon in the winter, and for hiking here in my NC mountains. Traveling to Oregon, I can pack ONE jacket, this Wolfskin jacket, and it will provide all I need for any weather there: raining, windy, cold, chilly, whatever, and I can easily roll it up to fit into my luggage: WIN! No more having to carry a jacket on board or try to pack something that’s thick, or having to borrow my daughter-in-law’s jacket. This is perfect for packing to travel. As well, it’s perfect for hiking here in the mountains in the cold or when it’s windy, and if I get hot, I roll it up and put it in my backpack. That it’s functional and looks tailored and nice on is a complete plus for me.The color is a dark blue—a dark navy. The photos may show it to be lighter blue but it’s a dark blue. The inside is a lighter blue with that kind of silky feeling material. This jacket is made so that the pockets and hood and everything are compact and tailored. There is velcro on the button flaps, and at the wrists so you can tighten the wrists if needed. The front zips up but also has a flap to hide the zipper. There are vents for air to come in but not in a way to keep you cold but to aid in breathability so you don’t sweat in it.The hood is made to fit over your head and near your face, so it stays on and keeps you warm. The hood is detachable.I have a small and it perfectly fits my 5’2” 117 pound frame—enough room to wear a sweater underneath should I want to in the colder months, but tailored enough to look modern. It is a more modern fit and I like this. So many hiking/winter jackets swallow me, but this one looks nice on. I can see wearing this on cold snowy days and chilly spring days, versatile.I’m really impressed and very happy with this jacket. It’s going to make my life much easier in so many ways. Though it is pricey, it’s worth a look if you need a kind of all-weather rain, snow, cold, windy day jacket that’s tailored, made from recycled products, and easy to pack for travel!WIN! Deserves my five stars!

Wonderful!..
..but it's too big. Very well constructed, nice fabric, has areas to unzip for breathe-ability, and very good looking. Has a inside zippered pocket and a removable hood by zipper and hidden snaps. The hood can be tighten with hidden elastic string that can be adjusted too. A nice raincoat! I took that star off but it could be half a star for the sizing issue. Buy medium in most things so thought the coat would be a good fit but it's about 2-3 sizes too large. Sure wish I could wear it but not going to gain weight so I can lol

Warm, lightweight, great quality, a perfect outdoorsy coat. Runs slightly large.
We recently had some very cold, windy weather and I was able to test this jacket out in the elements. And it did a fantastic job insulating me from the cold, snow, and wind. The jacket is high quality construction and made of lightweight materials. It's not bulky like so many other coats that are designed for warmth. However, it does run just a tiny bit large, but not enough to go down a size. The extra room is welcome and allows freedom of movement and the ability to wear something bulky like a sweater underneath. The sleeves are long but has a Velcro cuff to keep them in place at the wrist. The hood is detachable, and there are plenty of pockets. This is definitely an outdoorsy coat. I like to go on bird walks and in the winter this is the type of coat that is needed for me to stay outside for an extended period of time.

Cozy and Quality
This coat is EVERYTHING that I wanted in a coat this year! Having moved to the Pacific Northwest I knew I would need a rain coat, and I was told the winters weren't very cold... but so far I have still wanted a very warm coat, but I also NEED a hooded water resistant coat. This is a harder to find combination that you would think. But this coat has saved the day - the winter! It's so cozy and warm and pretty and has a hood and repels water! It is ALL of the things! It has lots of nice little quality details, too. I'm so glad to have this coat to get me through my first PNW winter!

This Jack Wolfskin Women's Kiruna Trail Waterproof Insulated Rain Jacket is a perfect outdoor jacket for fall and winter. It's very lightweight and tailored for freedom of movements. The fabric is nice. The insulation is thin but warm. The style is also attractive.I recommend it!
